I am constantly on the lookout for inspiring TH-camrs to help me improve my art skills and recently discovered yours. I am surprised you do not have more subs! I will definitely try out your templates since I didn't know about this feature until now. Thank you!
Don't know how I could miss such an amazing Tips ! I did realise that Action script was powerfull, but I didn't thought that mixing workflow AND Action script could actually be soooo crunchy thing to do in Photoshop. Most of the time I've been asking myself this question, "How do you get a clean and healthy workspace in photoshop?" (as I struggle a lot with it to keep it clear) Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and tricks with all this incredible community. Board on !
At around 7:15, you go back to remove the previous layer because it is showing. I've noticed when I tried to use this technique, anything that I have drawn on the layer shows up on all of my previous layers too. Clicking the layer so that it is 'off' on certain frames does get rid of it, but I was wondering if there was a shortcut or anything in the actions that I could use to do this automatically? The erasing or turning off frame method works for a small number of frames, but you could see how this could be a problem when your frame number get up there. Thanks ! Great video!
Hi Madison and Fernando, this is Wahab from the STBA team. Unfortunately, with this method, you’ll want to toggle the visibility for the previous layers as you move from frame to frame. I’m not sure there’s a way to create an action that’ll toggle the second to last layer you created.
Came to the comments for this exact reason… I’m going to play with it today as I work on a personal project, so I’ll report back in if I figure something out. Something that helped was creating groups for sequences/shots. It’s much easier to turn off a whole group on the next frame than it is to hide multiple layers. Regardless, huge thank you to StoryboardArt and Sergio for laying a great groundwork for this. I was about to dump money into yet another program specifically for storyboarding. Additionally, this method has proved really great for my character design and illustration work as I can create frames for roughs, cleans, flats, local colors, values/adjustment layers and toggle back to any stage for adjustments/changes. It makes it SUPER handy when revisions come along.
So I tried to solve this as well I found the best way was to select all the frames on the timeline with a shift-click then hide the layer. It’s not perfect but you only have to click hide once rather than going through every frame.
There is a problem with this tool. When I have created 40 frames, it will be exhausting with all layers, which is not supposed to be in the previous frame. Forexample, I created frame 3, and is happy for all layers I made for this specific frame, and then I move on to new layer 4. And start creating new layers, but these layers at frame 4, also appears at frame 3. Therefore it will be frustrating when I am at frame 40 and have to revisit all other 39 frame and hide the new layer from frame 40. I don't know how to find a solution for this?
I’m not sure I follow your question, but the best place to ask would be in our Discord Server, under the #software channel. You can sign up for our free Discord community here: storyboardart.org/forums/
I didn’t really understand your question so I asked one of our mentors and he didn’t really get it either without going into detail. The closest either of us could think of is that you’re trying to export multiple images as a single file, so maybe a PDF. You’d go to file > automate> PDF presentation. I’ll also add, this is exactly the kind of stuff you could be asking in our Discord community to get some better back and forth as well as community input. You can sign up for our Discord community through our website. Board on!
Thanks for the videos, the advices and the sharing. It appears in the that the 2.35 template is actually a 16.9 evrything else is working perfectly , thanks !
is there some way to put all the pictures in mosaic, in order to print it? I wanna watch the hole story in one single view after that. And decide If I have to add intermedial scenes, or not. Thanks a lot!
It depends on the program you’re using. Someone recently had a similar comment in our visual storytellers United group on Facebook. There were several options including using automate batch in Photoshop, creating a pdf in Adobe acrobat, or slides in Adobe Indesign. A lot of options! Maybe this is a future topic for us to go over -Wahab
one more question. When I'm done with my storyboard, I export it as a png and give it to the video editor guy. The idea is to make a story with very simple drawings at the beginning, and then draw more details in each frame, Export again the png sequenece, and the video updates automatically. (the video has sound effects and voices). But... If I want to add an intermedia scene between two frames, the numerical order when I export changes and the video is unsynchronized. Is there any way to put unique and unrepeatable names to each scene?. Thanks a lot!!!!
@@briantriesart Hi Brian, Chad here! There may be a few ways to handle the updated naming issue. I would say the best alternative would be to do something like add a .1 to the shot you're ammending. So, for example, if it's a shot that takes place between 12 and 13. You new shot would be 12.1. Others have done their original naming in increments of 5 or 10 (so shot one may be 010 shot 2, 020, and so forth), so if they need to slip a new panel in between, there is space in the naming to do it without it losing the order of the sequence. I hope this answers your question. -Chad
Do you have any tips for exporting? I was able to create a scene with the template, but I am now stuck trying to export a 16:9 ratio instead of the whole document
Hi Alyssa, Chad here from STBA. Good question. What I do to export is I will set each frame to 1 second on the timeline. Then in export options I'll "render video" and choose to export as jpg. Set your fps to 1. When it renders out, it will only export each individual frame as a batch export in order. It is important to make sure that the fps is set to 1 when you do this because anything more than that and you will get multiples of the same frame exporting together. I hope this helps!
Hi Sergio! Thanks for this tip! The actions work great, but the 2.35 template for members is different from the one you are using in the video. How do we access that template?
You will need a bottom layer in order for the action to work. I usually have a blank white BG layer as my first layer. Give it a try and see if that works.
@@StoryboardArt hello, I’m having a similar problem over here. As I’m doing this the actions don’t appear such as ‘new frame with layer’ and so forth to the point where it labels the new layer FRAME not layer (don’t think that’s much a concern of name difference) and yet it doesn’t do the onion skinning like u said in the video. Please help.

Please turn off the music.
Stop using background music if the focus must be your voice! It has absolutely no use and is only disturbing your video.
