Hey Rajen, I’m primarily a 3D animator and I’m not at all in school for storyboarding or vis dev. However, I do need to be able to draw for the purpose of knowing what my characters are doing and acting. Thank you so much for the tutorial!! It’s so helpful 🙏

this is a nice process, i was originally using artboards to make my storyboards but I'll give this a try

Hi Rajen, I meant to do a quick tutorial about storyboarding with layer comps and found yours. Nice one!!! I usually include about 10 shots per psd file so I end up with about 30 to 50 panels per file, enough to flip through within Photoshop.

Hey thanks Tobey. I think you should still make a tutorial. It's always better when people have options :)

Hi Tobias!! I would be soo happy, to watch ANY Storyboard Tutorial of yours- in general. I always thought you would be boarding In ToonBoom Storyboard Pro..?! Are you working in PS, using the layer-comps technique, also? Which do you prefer? Is anyone working with the timeline ( single frames/ or timeline with video groups mode, with PS? Is anyone storyboarding in Procreate, big style, already as well?!) I would be glad for any hints or tips, on that.
So far, using Procreate for Storyboarding, with the animation timeline, seems daunting, the only problem is always using bigger Backgrounds, that move, since Procreate is cropping everything beyond the image/canvas size, which makes it harder for simulated camera pans and so on...I hope I made my point clear...Anyway, would be glad for any advice or future tutorials... 🙂

@@janmartenlocher Hi Jan and than you! Maybe I should give it another thought. Depending on production needs I will work with different software. Photoshop has been around the longest (I think) and as far as storyboarding with it goes, not much has changed over the past years. So, it is always good to be proficient with it. Before Stbpro was getting more user friendly, I also used the timeline on PS. But nowadays I prefer to use the timeline and sound/ edit functionalities in stb pro. How to use camera moves in storyboarding will make it's very own topic for a tutorial :)

This is very usefull! After I know the storyboard pro I have a lot of difficulty to return to photoshop to do board, although I like a lot of photoshop brush/line's quality , some that I can't have in storyboard pro. Maybe the layer comps' procces make the thing easier in PS

Thank you for sharing this is a great method of stroyboarding - I was looking for a good way to create roughs but still be able to have them be editable and look professional. Cheers!

Do you have any tips for people who can't even draw proper circles?

I have seen other storyboard artists create new files every panel, saving them and then viewing them in adobe bridge

How would you handle a panning shot? For example what if you have a BG that extends outside the frame, and you want to pan from one end of the bg to the other end. Is this possible in photoshop?

This was a great idea and tut. Can we take each of the two layers per shot and group them in a folder (in the layers panel, not the layer comp panel) so that if we need to make a change later we can easily locate the correct layer? Or does it cause problems to put the layers into groups/folders?
