    What a thoroughly enjoyable video. Professional, informative, and on a personal level, it felt like it was "made for me" as it's close to my heart due to the decades of family holidays and childhood memories frim the early 70s.
    (It was sad to see the state of the berrow wreck in your previous video. I have pictures of myself stood on the ships keel. It has been buried completely now).

      Thank you so much! Sounds like we had a similar childhood. We used to visit Brean/Berrow in the 70s. So many memories that my wife and I moved to Berrow in 2018.

    Brean Down,Flat Holm,Steep Holm but there was also a battery at Lavernock Point on the Welsh side near Penarth (incidentally a plaque on the church there records Marconi’s wireless experiments in the area firstly from Lavernock to Flat Holm then further across the water to Brean Down).

    That bouncing bomb footage is amazing never knew that the navy were interested in a version of it

    Thanks. You've done a great job of locating things, especially the temple which is hard to find if you don't know the spot. Great drone footage, really gives a great coverage of the site. Maybe head to the other missing link next, the old MoD bomb demolition site on the Sand bay side, which was also tied in with the weapons testing.

    I’ve been to Brean a number of times and never gone down that far. You’ve made some good videos on Brean and you’ve made another. Great work 😊👍

    Looking at the side of Brean down where the sand is,
    the cliff side looks like stacked boulder's.

    I have been hoping for someone to 'do' Brean Down for years, historically it was effectively an island & is somewhere that I have walked with & without dogs for decades!

    Great Video. Really enjoyed this. Ive a;so done a Brean Down video but i think yours is much better than mine. The drone shots were good & showed what can't be seen from the ground. I had no idea there was a giant arrow there. Good archive pics & video.

      @@walkingwithstephen Hi Stephen. I filmed this with my Osmo Pocket 3. The closeups were from my Samsung phone & the footage from 1993 was a camcorder but I can't remember what make. 👍👍😊😊

    I grew up playing on the down - nobody knew about the arrows - i saw them and was told i was stupid lol (30 years ago before drones lol ) please look more into the archaeological dig that was done at the base of the down.

    • @walkingwithstephen

      That must have been fantastic. We only came once every year but Brean Down was always a must to visit. I've read bits about the dig at the snad hill. It's fascinating. I'm sure there is so much more history that's yet to be discovered. There are a lot of files at IWM, London about the wartime experiments there, but are not yet accessible.

    Why don’t they put roofs on the barracks instead of letting them turn to ruins? The buildings had roofs when I visited some years back.

    • @walkingwithstephen
      @walkingwithstephen  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think I can remember when the had roofs. It may be that they were in a bad state, health and safety and all that.

    • @andrewemery4272
      @andrewemery4272 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As soon as you put a roof on, you have to start paying tax on the building.

      Go up the military road - its more gentle for us older folk and you get nice views as you go. You come out near the iron age fort and also go past what seems to be a military gate house on your way up the hill.

      The river axe is just behind Brean down, starts in cheddar i believe, enters the bay at uphill, I'm no historian, but I'd of said from there.

    • @walkingwithstephen
      @walkingwithstephen  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would imagine from the river, which was wider in ancient times. The Romans had a harbour at Uphill at the end of Brean Down. I've also heard of hill fort people collecting rain water in ponds, etc.
