      @rarity it's mostly because fans hold him responsible for any mistreatment YG artists receive. No one thinks about the fact that there are several people behind YGE who have as much power as he does if not more. He might be the biggest shareholder of the company, but that doesn't mean he's in control of everything. He's usually not directly involved with the artists. Same with JYPE, there's a separate division that manages TWICE so JYP himself has nothing to do with their activities. He only works with their discography

I also remember when Seo Taiji debuted (I was ten years old!) and my mind was totally blown then too. Seo Taiji is really special because he is not just special in terms of music, but he has completely changed the Korean music industry. The concept of comeback comes from Seo Taiji. Before there was a concept of comeback, the singer didn't have any special authority, but Seo Taiji didn't want to do it. He wanted a cycle of making songs with plenty of rest, working for some time, relaxing and making songs. That's why I did it, but it was possible because it was Seo Tai-ji, and after that, everyone followed suit and became a culture.

      I first got introduced to kpop by Rain and Boa. Started following Girls Generation from The Boys era. As an Asian Australian, you weren't considered cool or edgy if you listened to any sort of kpop, cpop music, as most of my friends were into either electronic or rnb music. Guess who is having the last laugh now 🙃

    This first episode is great because it is set in a time before any kpop companies existed. The artists directly interviewed or featured are Key Boys from the 60s, JinJoo Lee, DJ Soulscape, Lee Kisang, CLON, Jae Chong (Solid) and ends with a feature about Seo Taiji. NONE of these are with any of the current kpop management companies so that is nice to see.

    • @sonnyray
      @sonnyray 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      YHS the founder of YG was part of Soetaiji and boys and you can literally see him several times on this video. There are also features with some YG artists there.

    • @userkmunhwaock
      @userkmunhwaock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sonnyrayEveryone knows YG was a member of Seo Taiji and Boys. But at the time of the events shown in this episode YG had not formed his company yet. The only YG artist actually interviewed in this episode is Danny Im from 1TYM and he is also speaking about the early 90s period before YG and other current companies existed. So the original comment is accurate because the events covered in this episode all occurred before current kpop companies existed and none of the artists actually interviewed (not just shown briefly) are currently with a kpop management company.

    About half a year ago I was wondering why K-Pop suddenldy became so popular international and why people listen to songs they can't understand? I couldn't relate and I kept saying to people that I don't like K-Pop. Thinking back, it's very sad because at that time I have never really heard a K-Pop song or knew anything about the groups, I simply never gave them a chance.
    Around New Years I saw an interview of a K-Pop boygroup and thought that they were really funny so I kept searching up different interviews and got introduced to many other popular groups.
    Today I'm listening to K-Pop songs or watch TH-cam-clips nearly on a daily basis. I love their Variety Shows because they are all super funny. The K-Pop Industry provides many different type of contents and they produce great music too!
    I hope that more people world wide learn to like K-Pop because else they are totally missing out! This documentary is very interesting and I'm sure it will bring some people into this kind of music.

    I feel like a lot of people are forgetting that K-pop isn’t the only genre of music people listen to in South Korea, it’s a lot of other genres with a lot of other talented musicians who are undercreditted, but I’m very glad that they’re getting their recognition now. Better late than never.
    (Also I really want to go to sk as soon as I graduate from school to study Korean abroad and learn about the culture and music, it’s so fascinating and I’m very interested in the culture there. Probably won’t be visiting North Korea tho lol)

    I really appreciate this doc including the social and political turmoil and history around the inception of Korean rock. I not only find it very interesting and love learning about it but I feel like a lot of kpop fans need to know more about Korea's history and their struggle, to know the artists themselves and their current culture. Many wouldn't go out of their way to research it, so to get a clear picture of it with accessible language is great

    I am only in 20s but I listened to Kpop since its 80s since I really love Kpop. After listening to Kpop from 80s to current, I can say that Kpop has its originality due to Seo Tae Ji's influence. Kpop is really different before and after this remarkable musician, Seo Tae Ji.

    • @happeeboy9581

      You mean has its originality in black Americans...
      It's strange how if a black artists [or Americans really] copied Koreans they would get called out but when kpop as a whole copies black culture they never give credit or ever collab with black artists or even really any acknowledgement. It's really disturbing actually 😐
