Is it compulsory to have experience before joining to vet college?? I am still in school and I *love* pets and I want to become a veterinarian, but my parents are not allowing me to have a pet😭😭😭
No it’s not, I applied to vet school not having owned an animal until July of this year. Just getting in an animal hospital is best and getting that experience with a vet and becoming a well rounded applicant.
Like Ciara said you do not have to actually own an animal, but you do need to get experience at vet clinics or any other animal experience at a zoo, pet shop, animal shelter or even a farm if you can get one there. You should check the colleges you want to apply to because each one has a unique amount of work experience that they require you to have.
You definitely don’t need to own an animal but getting some experience is a good ideas . Try contacting a local practice and see if they’d let u shadow Good luck
