I had so many people tell me that the Ventrac couldn't tackle a job this big. They said I needed a bigger tractor. They said I needed a bigger bush hog. They said there's no way you're going to tackle that with the Ventrac Tough Cut. Are you ready to prove them wrong? I bought a used zero turn Cub Cadet and just love it. Unfortunately last year we had a bad drought so I didn't get to mow much. I'm hoping for a greener year!

It was a perfect application for the ventrac to handle. Ordinary tractor would have taken longer just on turning radius alone. I don't think a job like this can be too big for the ventrac. Looks good!
The Ventrac had fun out there. Took a while to knock out, but the Ventrac handled it just fine. Traditional tractor wouldn't have been able to climb some of those hills. It was pretty steep in places. Appreciate the support. 💯

I recorded most of the job in time lapse mode because it was such a big job. And no audio when you record in time lapse. I'll have to get more real time footage next time and let you hear the machine work. Appreciate you watching. There have been so many ppl reach out over the years to tell me they bought a Ventrac after watching some of my videos. Pretty wild! It would be fun to be a dealer, but I have more fun running the machine all day long!

Another great vid and most satisfying. Not sure if you know how satisfying it is to watch you mow in time-lapse, but I always walk away from your vids feeling very complete and fulfilled. That has got to be therapeutic for you just watching ten feet in front of you. I feel myself coveting a bit watching you.
On another note... Do you have to constantly centerline that steering wheel after so many jobs? Does it have a centerline calibration, or does it matter?
I know you work in "Mowssouri", but I wonder if there is a guy like you doing this in the "Mowjavi" Dessert raking sand dunes and blowing tumbleweeds. Hmmmm, something to ponder. 🤔
Oh wow, this is nice to hear! Thanks for sharing that. It is definitely satisfying to see the transformation take place a little at a time. Looking back, it's hard to believe I tackled all of that. But the Ventrac got it done yet again! I've never messed with the steering wheel. After a few jobs, that Ventrac knows exactly where to go. As a matter of fact, I don't even remember moving the steering wheel on this huge job. It's like it just takes over and gets the job done haha. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment. I love that unit. if I was still in business, I have one &, I have one with four-wheel-drive diesel so many attachments you can put on without getting out of the seat oh the hydraulic diesel is the strongest unit on the market..so many accessories bless you brother. love this unit
Yeah, that Diesel engine would be nice! They say it just sips the fuel and will hold up for a long long time! In the future I would like to get the Kubota gas engine. With the power line and the big monster field, it was about a week of mowing. I want to say it’s around 15 acres total. Lots of sketchy areas where you have to really watch or you’ll end up flipping the Ventrac in the washed out areas. Appreciate you watching the transformation. Glad you enjoyed the music 😎. Haha yeah, the Ventrac had to make a point on this one. Far too many have said that the Ventrac Tough Cut couldn't handle a job this big. But I think it did pretty well. haha I definitely get it! Unfortunately most of that had to be shot in time lapse because it took SOOOOOO LONG to mow. And no audio is captured while in time lapse. I work with a special district in California and it has 7 miles worth of levee and it has a vantrac 4500y to mow. It takes about 4 to 5 hours to mow 1 mile depending on the area.
Oh wow! How does the 4500y Diesel engine handle all of that? Does it move through it pretty good? I've heard the diesel is underpowered compared to the Kubota gas, but I've never had the chance to try it out. That's a LOT to tackle with a Ventrac. Seven MILES!!!!! That's a full time job!
You aced the Cam, looking sweet, what was the steepest reading on the slope gauge?
Thank you! I appreciate it. The steepest point was around 32 degrees. Most of it was between 18-22 degrees. Just steep enough to keep you from running a traditional tractor/bush hog on it. But some of it, you couldn't even get a traditional setup on. The Ventrac makes it look so easy. It didn't even sweat it. 😎

is there any performance difference between the red ones and when they recolored them to white and red? or between the mowing attachments?
also good job on the field, it did a surspiringly clean cut, almost no stragglers. Even looked like it was striping in some of the cam angles.
Hey Michael! It’s the same Ventrac. I just covered the off white color on the tractor with black. There are different Mowing Attachments based on your job that you’re tackling. I think the flail mower deck probably would have left the best cut on this one. Simply because it’s made for chopping up all of the material. The tough cut deck did stripe pretty well! how does the life of the belt purchased at an auto store compare with the oem belt from ventrac? are they the same in quality or is the ventrac belt better?
I’m not sure on the belts. We have a belt manufacturer here that produces some quality belts. But Ventrac claims their belts are very high quality.

Yeah, that sounds like an aftermarket tool attachment. I’ve seen something similar. Definitely would be nice to have on a job like this!
The Ventrac with the tuff cut was absolutely the right tool for the job. A belt break? Ehh, it happens.

The ventrac was well known for belt problems. We used one on our golf course and not even a month we snapped the belt. Honestly I think they should be gear driven by the PTO instead of belt driven. But awesome job tackling that.
I like the fact that the belt is the breaking point instead of something more expensive like a PTO shaft. Pretty quick swap and you’re back up and running. What attachment were you using on the golf course?!
A commercial zero turn probably could have mowed that buddy.
Lol you can’t put a zero turn on this one. It would be high centered first pass. That’s if the spindles didn’t break on these rocks sticking up. Hard to gauge from the video of course. But it’s rough terrain. Appreciate you watching!
If you had a bucket attachment for the rear of the mower you could keep all your tools and spares in the bucket. Can your mower have a bucket on the back mate?
Hey Trevor! Thanks for taking time to watch. I do have a bucket, but I don't have the 3 point hitch to go on the back of the Ventrac. It would definitely be handy to have one hooked up to the back. Maybe something I can swing in the future! That's a good tip!
@@TheLawnCareLifeinMowssouri `Your machine did a great job all the belt drives are probably the weakest link of the machine. I have the older model. But I rarely break a tractor belt just the mower one.
the tough cut is a great deck, with the flat blades, it really manages to accomplish allot with limited horsepower. 3 questions,. how big is the field, and how much mower time did it take to clear it, and does a job like that require additional non mower time?
Yeah, you are right! The Tough Cut blades are TOUGH! Only 31HP and it eats right through it. The field was around 15 acres and took a good week to clear including the power line in the previous video. You have to blow out the engine compartment quite a bit when mowing this type of grass. Everything collects around the engine, so every 30 mins or so you're stopping to blow debris off.
what is your standard cutting height on the job , is it different with other job or do you run the same cutting height on all jobs? also do you double cut this job or all your jobs? or just run over the field once?
I run it pretty low to give it a better cut. I’ve taken the front caster tires off the tough cut deck and it is giving it a much better cut.

@LWAYNEB-e2b the front casters tend to run over and lay the grass down. The grass doesn’t pop back up for the blades to cut. So a lot of skippers and missed grass. Without the casters, there’s nothing to push the grass down so it has to be cut by the blades. Leaving a clean nice cut.
I enjoyed it very much (except for the squeaky YT music). I think a 21" Honda SP mower might have been a better choice though LOL The VT was a great tool for that job brother. Maybe you can talk them into having you fill that serious washout with riprap rock or something?

It would be nice to fill in all of the washed out areas, but you could seriously spend about a week fixing all of those spots. Lots and lots of washed out places. I should have videoed more of them. I was just thinking that eventually, that place is going to have a huge washout (or as you said, several) to deal with and repair. Riprap would prevent it from getting a lot worse and give the water somewhere to keep running in the same place. Might not be what you normally do but might be worth your time to find pout. Just a thought. Having the bucket for the VT would make it fairly straight forward.

Thank you. Yeah, this deck is designed to cut more of the thick brush than grass. Sometimes it doesn't cut the grass as clean as I would like. Would like to have the flail deck for the tall thick grass. It leaves a better cut.

It took a solid week I would say. Between tackling the powerline and tackling the hillsides. I didn’t walk the property beforehand. That’s why I have the Tough Cut. So it can find those things for me lol. Property is too big to walk. But I did keep an eye out the whole time. Found the usual pillow up by the road. Found a lot of huge rocks that got my attention real fast. 👀. And I found an old push mower over by the woods line. The washed out areas were the worst. You couldn’t see them until you knocked the grass down. 😳. I could have flipped the Ventrac in several, but fortunately I saw them just in time. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! The Ventrac cruised right on through. This was a huge job. It took the Ventrac all week basically. So, we had to price accordingly.
How often do you go through belts on the tractor and/or mow deck? I would think the ones on the deck would stretch or burn up and need replacing at last a couple times a year? I’ve seen that on finish decks multiple times.
Haven't went through as many belts as I would have thought. But they do break down quicker, the more you push them. I think a couple of belts per year would be normal running it under normal circumstances. Appreciate you watching!

ventrac is made for these kinds of places you don’t take a commercial mower from videos it’s called a tough cut. if this unit can’t handle this well Ventrac has issues to work out

Hi Cameron what psi do you run your tires on ventrac?we have a Steiner 450 .there is a lot more content on the ventrac online .
I run 10 psi on the inside and 8 psi on the outside. How about you?

Get a good idea of how long it will take to complete the job and have an hourly rate that you need to make when running specific equipment. Then run the numbers and see where your profit margins fall.

Good question. I guesstimate on how long it will take. Each job you learn from. Some jobs there’s just no real way to tell how long it’s going to take. In that case, I will bid for a full days worth of work or two.

After the vegetation dried did you burn 🔥 it in a controlled fire 🔥?
Nope. The customer just wanted it cut down. That would have been a lot to burn. Erosion would be a big issue if you burnt it as well. Need to keep a nice rooted vegetation on those hills to keep from washing it all away. Thanks for taking the time to watch!

how does the power of the z ventrac tractor with the kubota engine compare to the power of your tractor with the vanguard engine.
Similar in power, but the Kubota liquid cooled engine is going to hold up much better long term than the air cooled Vanguard engine.

I’ve developed some pretty bad allergies by tackling these overgrown properties. Now, I have to wear this in order to complete the jobs.
@@TheLawnCareLifeinMowssouri I thought maybe you wore it because in case you mowed something like poison ivy, poison hemlock or wild parsnips (and if it aeroslized the oils and compounds). I've heard some pretty bad horror stories and fatal outcomes of those things happening, and its made me question whether wearing a respirator and goggles should be a practice I do as standard practice.

Every job is different. No two are the same. Lots of different variables to consider when tackling these overgrown properties with the Ventrac. And every time you think it's going to take x amount of hours, it always takes longer lol. Thanks for watching.

So the mower deck is belt driven. Not PTO off the engine, that's odd.
All belt driven to reduce down time and break downs. Easier to swap out a belt if you hit something solid out there. So far, so good. It’s been solid

That ventrack is what about 30,0000.00 then you say they suggest a bigger tractor what a 80,000.00 tractor and most of them use a push mower or a 3,000.00 ridding lawnmower it sure is easy to sling words nice video
Yeah, the Ventrac is around $30K tractor. And when you bring out a full size tractor, you are WAY up there in price. Not to mention the bigger truck/trailer to haul it. Even then, there are areas on this job that I would NOT put a traditional tractor on. Simply because it's unsafe. Too steep. Too washed out. Perfect scenario for a rollover if you're not careful. The only advantage I could see to using a full size tractor would be a bigger cutting deck so you could get done faster and use less fuel.

Oh man, it took a while! Probably a week the first time I tackled it. Just slow go with the terrain. The first time it took even longer. It gets easier each time I tackle it.
