Right now, I'm reading "North and South", a novel by Elizabeth Gaskell, first published around 1854. I love the characters, but it is a very sad story, people dying left and right. I like the fact that the heroine, Margaret Hale, does live like a Christian woman and struggles to keep an honest attitude, dealing with people of different backgrounds and beliefs.

Re: book 1 -- I'm currently in Jen Wilkins's Bible study on Genesis. She reminded us in video 2 that Moses is writing to a certain group of people and just because he doesn't condemn something like slavery or polygamy doesn't mean he condones it. And I've heard the same thing about Jesus and homosexuality. The original audience didn't question that these things are wrong -- they all agreed-- so there was no reason to bring it up. (Paul mentions homosexuality many times because HIS audience was Greek, and that WAS accepted in their culture; therefore it DID need to be addressed.) Our culture agrees that we should wear shoes in the grocery store, so when I say I got dressed to go to the grocery store, you know I'm wearing shoes. The fact that I didn't mention shoes doesn't mean I support not wearing shoes. 😊

After your last book review video I purchased God of All Things and am loving it so far. I also purchased The Life We Never Expected by the same author and his wife and I cry so hard that I can only get through a little at a time before being so emotionally drained that I have to put it down and come back to it. My sisters youngest has autism and she, we, are walking through such a valley with him right now so the book is so timely. Thank you 😊 as always for your heart and honesty.

Hi, Faith! Just a comment on dog earing the pages of your books: as years go by, the creases on the paper will make it rip exactly there, since the fibers will become more fragile where the folds are. So, your books will suffer more damage. I know most readers don't care about that, but if you tend to reread books many years (decades) later, it might be a problem.

I have a stack of books (maybe three huge stacks?) on my nightstand as well. Sometimes, with books enough for a whole year worth of reading. I try to think of it as a "short term TBR", but the truth is I don't respect that concept at all, I just wanna be surrounded by books and grab what I wanna read (or reread) when I feel like it. The stack grows and grows, whenever I run out of space on my bookshelves. Then I clean it up, store all the books on proper shelves, and the cycle repeats itself.

I've finished a few books and some I can't remember when I finished but I think last month LOL! my TBR piles are HUGE and it's so frustrating not being able to read read read and understand and apply what I'm reading!
I have the last 2 books you showed - Sailhamer was a shocker when I realized how huge and detailed it was but I found an answer to my question LOL! you might be interested in Gordan Smith's Evangelical, Sacramental, and Pentecostal. I have it but haven't read it yet but bought around the same time as Spirit and Sacrament. I love liturgical/sacramental but also the other focuses. I think they're all needed ot keep each other in balance.
My recent finishes that I highly recommend are Gentle and Lowly by Dane Ortland and For all the Saints by N T Wright. Gentle and Lowly was great for me as I see myself so lacking and this one just broke through a lot of that. critics said it was treating sin lightly but as someone who doesn't treat sin lightly I think this one was a blessing to me. For All the Saints is a short book explaining some of the origins of our beliefs of heaven and his ideas. he's anglican and some criticism of the Roman Catholic church but I found even his tangents helpful as I like how he supports and explains and where some of the beliefs I've heard came from. very good esp as I love liturgical and we celebrate All Saints Sunday in November and his complaints about the liturgical year having additins and changes that mess with the flow were helpful.
almost done with When Women Lead by Carolyn Moore. as a woman not in leadership and not understanding 'rocking the boat' this book has made me think and pray a LOT and face issues I recall from women leadership. The author is a woman pastor in the united methodist church Or maybe global methodist now - now sure but she writes for seedbed which is pretty conservative and they collaborated iwth zondervan on this book. they're also doing a short online course but not planning on doing it at least not at this time. I bought a copy for a friend and will probalby give away another at church.
a book I finished but did not like was The Post-Modern PIlgrim's Progress by the editors at babylon bee. they're a satire group that I find funny at times but this book did not tick my boxes. I haven't read all of the original but when I picked the original up to read it was so reverent that was totally missing in the new modernized version. I felt like they slapped something together hoping to make a buck (which they have). from the good reviews I'd say I'm in the minority butI"m 55 almost 56 and didn't 'get' the humor in this one and didn't think the guy's issue was addressed. weird reeferences to obscure planets...

For me as someone who identifies as bisexual, I struggle with same sex attraction and this is my opinion
While I can see it being a sin that we don’t have kids in same sex marriage matters, science seems to support homosexuality and I agree with everything on science but I also know if God made science how Satan can influence that to seem real, my only question is why did God put it around pagan passages and mention male prostitution if it was on same sex marriage
