    Finding out my Kibbe type was such a revelation. I'm a Natural but in the past whenever I needed to dress up, I would go for tailored, constructed lines or else more dainty/delicate clothes because I thought that was the way to look elegant and put together. I couldn't understand why the harder I tried to look like these feminine and elegant women, the sloppier and more awkward I looked! Now I realize that it's wearing unconstructed styles that actually makes me look more put together.

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Thanks so much for sharing! It truly is a revelation. Have you watched my video on Kibbe and Personality? It has exactly what you're describing--different elegant looks on different body types, and then I swap them from one body type to another to see that one look that was elegant on Selena Gomez (soft natural), just looked sloppy on Nina Dobrev (dramatic classic), and other examples too!

      @@merriamstyleOh, yes, I watch all your videos :) You explain things so clearly and intuitively! Especially color analysis (another former source of frustration for me as a slightly-cool-of-neutral olive). But Kibbe is really a breath of fresh air after the traditional pear-shape, apple-shape, hide-your-flaws approach we've all been raised on. It shows that trying to "counteract" or "neutralize" your natural appearance is just the wrong way to go.

      I think what makes classic interesting is that you can take one detail from another type and style it with classic clothes, and you'll instantly have the effect you want. My DC friend can look really badass just by wearing ripped jeans with the rest of her outfit being relatively plain and classic, while if I try that approach as a TR my softness comes through too much. I'd have to do a very different approach to get that effect. That one element is enough to make her outfit look really interesting without looking out of place, which I think is the power of the classics

Sorry for the long response. I am so excited that somebody else knows dyt kibbe and Merriam :) I am trying to introduce Merriam and the kibbe body system to the Dressing your truth world. @Tangerine Sky333 Yeah I have to agree it can be limiting. I'm so happy I can stretch out and have more freedom with Merriam and kibbe and well now I'm checking out john kitchener. I think Carol is on to it for sure tho. Even tho I am a type 4 I see there being so many possibilities in the world of style. I thought it was very validating to Carols system however when I found out that my artistic color pallete was cool and delicate. The colours are like a perfect type 4/2 pallete. Like completely catered to that particular type blend that I am. So I see my type 4/2 coming up in my skin. Then my kibbe type, theatrical romantic, is a perfect blend between dramatic (which I'd consider to be type 4) and romantic, type 2. Which further suggests 4/2 for me. So the energy type 4/2 is showing through my bones and flesh. Then in dressing your truth my 4/2 comes out through my face in facial profiling. I was just taken back a little. I don't know if it works the same for everyone tho. Carol has broken her rules by wearing navy. She does incorporate different colours that are not type 3 into her style. So I feel like when the time is right she will go into that and share it with the dyt. I really just think her heart is set on helping people own who they are by recognizing it, healing it and honouring it.

    I have a pair of palazzo trousers with a thick waistband and a matching thick belt with black hardware. The trousers are, theoretically speaking, beautiful: it's a red, silk-like, flowy yet heavy fabric. And I FEEL good when I wear it. But when I look at a picture, it just looks...wrong. The thick waistband and belt is overly angular and stuff for my rather classic-romantic torso and the combination of it being wide leg, but a flowy fabric, yet a heavy fabric, is kind of off. Really enjoyed this video! This is a great introduction for newcomers to the Kibbe system. Keep up the good work, Merriam! I wonder if it’d be fun to explore various Kibbe types among models.. I have been doing some research and have found that models can include all the body types and not just naturals and dramatics. Such as Adriana Lima (theatrical romantic), Lily Aldridge (dramatic classic), Alexandra Daddario (romantic) and Jasmine Sanders (soft gamine?). Anyway, do let us know your thoughts about this! Much love

      Adriana lima, she may have some D in her facial features (most models do) but her bones are mainly natural and dramatic, so way too much yang for a TR. Alexandra Dadarrio, same thing. Soft dramatic or soft natural maybe.

      Gitte Van de velde well I had always wondered why Adriana and Alexandra were listed as romantics on certain online forums.. thanks for the clarification. I do agree with you on this. They have a lot of D in their faces but their skeletons are primarily yang, although in some pictures Adriana appears to have a short vertical line and answer D limbs, hands and feet. What are your thoughts, Merriam?

      To me, a soft classic looks more aristocratic, elegant, and balanced whereas theatrical romantics are more like slightly sharper, mini-Marilyn Monroe’s. We’re very small dainty, rounded women. I’m a TR myself that’s why it’s easier to distinguish. I think I get Dramatic classics and TRs mixed because Megan Fox and Nina Dobrev sometimes wear theatrical romantic inspired looks and I think it looks good on them.

    • @dianaprince9403
      @dianaprince9403 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      kat x I agree that Nina Dobrev often sports TR looks, especially in her days in the Vampire Diaries. So from my understanding now TR would be overall smaller and less proportionate than SC, with smaller hands and facial features. Is Olivia Culpo a TR then in your opinion? • @cianap.281
      @cianap.281 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What exactly constitutes "modest" for you? Maybe you could try dresses or tunics cut on the bias, traditionally made from flowy materials like chiffon, voile, linen, velvet and charmeuse. They're not tight fitting, especially if you buy them loose, yet still follow the bodyline. You might also like a cropped jacket since it obscures the waist a bit but still has that high-waisted definition. Harem pants of course sit fitted at the waist but are otherwise very loose and drapey, and then fitted at the ankle. You might also throw your energy less into fit if that really bothers you, and more into finding soft, lightweight materials, soft ruffles and rounded shapes and patterns especially at the neckline. Soft hair and colors, etc.
      That's a tough one, honestly. Really curvy figures can look like they're wearing tents if clothes don't have some sort of fittedness, the struggle is real. And even with the tent effect the boobs & butt still stick out because they're there and they always will. I still remember my mom making me try on pair after pair of jeans trying to find one that was "loose" around the butt, and guess what Mom, that doesn't exist when you're curvy. To this day I always feel afraid of looking "inappropriate" no matter what.

      For me, I view constructed clothing as clothes that have their own shape/form physically---whereas unconstructed clothing are clothes that have no particular shape and generally look more like limp fabric (which relies on a body to have it's own shape). For example a constructed dress will look as if someone is already wearing the dress, even if the dress is just laying flat---but a unconstructed dress will look more like a pile of fabric in comparison.

    This comment has nothing to do with the topic of this video but I wanted to leave it on a new video for people to see. I have a question:
    I am 13 (almost 14) years old and I have been interested in the kibbe system for over a year. I have taken the test a couple of times but it’s quite hard since I am still a child. Do you (Merriam and the people reading this comment) think I am able to do it properly? My appearance will probably change a little as i grow up. I think Aly Art said in one of her videos that the kibbe type can be detected when the woman is 21 or something. Should I make some adjustments to the quiz or should I just wait a few years before taking it? Is it possible to type me although I am young?
    Sorry for possible grammar mistakes. English is not my first language.

    • @rebekahbechervaise69
      @rebekahbechervaise69 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally, I think you can take the test, but don't be surprised if your body type changes soon too. I was 15 when I first took the test, and was a soft gamine.
      In less than a year, all of my yang answers changed to classic ones, and now I'm a soft classic.

    • @gittevandevelde2208
      @gittevandevelde2208 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am 18 and kind of in between a classic and gamine (mainly classic, but also some random yin and yang answers thrown in). But, maybe, I will evolve to being a (soft) classic when I get a bit older (I doubt it though, as I am kind of fullgrown) what will change the most, is probably your flesh and proportions though. If you've always had long, narrow bones they won't totally change. I you have always had full lips or big eyes or anything they won't either. You may already know a bit of a direction, but don't be sure as there can still change a bit and in some cases 3 answers being different can change a lot.

    • @cianap.281
      @cianap.281 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Why not take the test and dress according to the results, and then take it again as your body changes, and then dress for that different result? If you're only temporarily, say, soft gamine, why not just dress that way in the meantime.

    • @thehalfbloodserb
      @thehalfbloodserb 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As others have commented, you will have some gaminish features due to being a teenager but some features won't change, so consider those.
      If you become a type quite distinct from gamine (as in you'll have barely any gamine answers) you might notice more changes soon, maybe at 15/16. For me I noticed a major change at that age (my figure become more full and romantic) and gamine lines no longer suited me fully even though I had teenage angularity until I was 18.
      Otherwise dress as the type you are now and adapt as your body grows.

    • @heidihaeni7783
      @heidihaeni7783 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with all of these comments. You could take the test now and dress according to the results, and then take it again later since you'll need to buy new clothes later anyway. When I turned 13 I was five foot six. When I turned fourteen I was five foot ten.When I turned 17 I was 5 foot 11 and a half. My stepmom and Grandma dressed me in gamine styles which became progressively weirder as I aged. My mom dressed me in ingenue styles until I was 21. Now I'm wearing soft natural with ingenue essense styles and feel much more comfortable. My point is that while you're still young other people will dress you in styles that may not end up being the real you. Teenage years are a good time to experiment with fashion.

      If you think you're FG, try skinny jeans and a tight tshirt as a narrow base, and wear a third layer (jacket is best, no knits) with an asymmetrical, irregular cut. The jacket also should be short, not too long, and boxy, without much waist emphasis (because FG body type is "boxy"in general).
