Chin was short. Even Katara and Sokka thought his footprint was small. He's a parody of historical conquerors such as Napoleon I Bonaparte, Alexander II of Macedon, and Qin Shi Huang (the first Chinese Emperor), who were all reputedly short.

We don’t see too many past avatars, and we don’t see them often, but they’re all awesome.

@@windygrass9807 I mean, I guess you could argue, that her bending created a life-threatening situation for him, and since that situation DID kill him it was still her who was responsible for his death.

Kyoshi is voiced by the one and only Jennifer Hale, she nails tough women like no one else, with my personal favorite being Commander Shepard.

After reading the novels and comics you will be surprised to find kyoshi is a softy and Yangchen was actually more ruthless than her.

Everything about this episode is mid, except for Kyoshi, who is the most badass character ever
It would've been better if the rough rhinos came right before Kyoshi turned back to Aang, so we could've seen her fight them.
Sozin's comet hot take but Kyoshi was kind of one of the worst avatars that we know of.
I already talked about this back in the Kyoshi's Island episode but she's given so much credit for not really doing that much.
Was she badass? Yes. Did she pull off a bending feat that is probably one of, if not the strongest earth bending we see in the entire show including LoK? Absolutely yes. But she did not kill Chin on purpose, and that part is constantly overlooked.
It would be completely reasonable if they had portrayed her as a pacifist and said she just didn't kill him or attack him on purpose because it was against her beliefs, Aang is a pacifist too after all. But instead she's supposedly the most badass avatar in the show, and yet she did nothing while Chin was taking over the world. Roku vanished right before the Fire Nation attacked and Aang was in an iceberg, but she doesn't have an excuse like that. She didn't fight him until he arrived at her village, and even then, she didn't even try to fight, she just left. The only reason he died was because he fell off a cliff by accident. She didn't kill him, she just provided the means for his accidental death. And even then, it's not like that in itself is enough to detract, she could easily have just explained what happend and said she wished she had intervened sooner, just like the water tribe avatar before her said to Aang later in book 3, but she didn't. Instead she just claimed to have killed him, which she obviously didn't.
And we can't frame this like with Korra and her earth bending rival (phrasing this vaguely for spoilers in case they watch LoK later) because in that case, she was clearly very strong. But you can't tell me that if Chin was powerful enough to rival *that* kind of bending level Kyoshi demonstrated, he would have stilled died just from falling off a cliff. Maybe he was a very proficient commander or strategist, or had something else helping him take over the world, but if she couldn't even manage to try and fight him earlier on then she failed as the avatar in that respect.
She might have accomplished some impressive stuff in the books they added later, but just from this scene, she comes across as an arrogant and somewhat lazy avatar that definitely has a lot of power and talent, but didn't do anything to actually promote her own ideals and was incredibly hypocritical as well. She had no right telling Aang what she did when the most she did to protect her world from this incident was take her village and leave Chin to accidentally fall off a cliff after letting him take over the rest of the continent.
Well we have no ideas what the state of world was outside of the earth kingdom was at the time so she was probably dealing with that. We just don’t have the full context to make that judgment
@@robertoleary5470 If she's capable of feats like that there's no way she couldn't have at least done something, anything. We know she was strong willed and didn't really care about others' authority and she was the avatar, so no way she was being blocked off by other world leaders, she chose to do nothing of her own free will.
