The first time the show really demonstrates how insanely powerful a fully realized Avatar is. Other earthbenders: *throw rocks* Avatar: *literally moves entire landmasses over several kilometers*
Pretty sure Kyoshi would have had to separate the landmass from the tectonic plate it was attached to in order to perform this feat. Its in my opinion the biggest display of pure bending power and magnitude in the show. There are tons of incredible feats in Avatar and everyone has their favourites, but Kyoshi changed the map of the world

The guy discover he is the avatar, go find masters for all elements Yada Yada and then he's like "wow my country is in bad shape, I should change that" so he decide to become counsellor to the fire lord. Of course, nobody would refuse the avatar as your counsellor but what did he do ? He was like "That's cool and stuff but being the avatar doesn't mean I'm qualified to help with political stuff etc so I'll go to school and get this diploma before doing anything" and the guy literally took his studies extremely seriously (he is literally represented with the old version of a calculator on the painting in the Fire nation), became the best counsellor and made reform, help the peasants in case of famine with new laws and stuff, solved every conflict between the nobles families, making the political power of the fire lord strong again, Basically resolved all problems in the Fire Nation. He is probably partially responsible for the golden age that followed in which the Fire nation developed so much that they gained big advancement in technology in comparison to the other nations. (Referenced by the dialogue between Sozin and Roku, where Sozin say he want to share all the progress of the fire nation to the world etc.) He's the nerdiest Avatar ever x)
Kyoshi was the personification of Chaotic Good. "I warned him. He fell, but I did it so-" Also the perfect guy to play the village leader was in this, James Hong. Same voice for the pious Chi-Fu from Mulan. Perfection.
No, she's really more Lawful Good. Chaotic Good is about morality, and Kyoshi didn't have any qualms against killing him. Lawful Good suits her better. It's the business before pleasure personality. To enemies, she was an unmoving wall. It's why she doesn't take bullshit.

Kyoshi's book is amazing. She was 7 foot tall and lived over 200 years. She was the house maid of the supposed avatar and didnt discover who she was until much later than normal. She used fans because her mother was an air bender who didnt observe the spiritual ways and struggles to air bend without them. She wore gloves because her hands were burned due to fighting the first lightning bender, as part of her training she was taught to kill and assassinate enemies and didnt often give warnings before doing so (chen was an exception). Also the first LGBT avatar. I haven't even gotten to the good stuff. Her story is amazing.

She was a literal giant as seen with her outfit here (she was like over 6ft), she formed the Earth Kingdom secret police to protect against tyrants (to which she ends up regretting because they took some liberties with their duties and eventually turned on her in favor of the Earth King), her mother was a renegade air nomad, her parents abandoned her (fun fact: those fans were her mother's and her make-up was based on her father's war-paint), she lived on the streets for most of her life, she fought off bandit gangs and warlords, stood up to the Earth King when he ordered her to put peasants in their place, she had a girlfriend and eventually a daughter with her husband (also, she was probably the first avatar to be confirmed to have children), she created an island to protect her people, and she's probably the longest living avatar and human at 230. She feared no man or woman, king or queen, god or spirit, force of nature, or even death itself.
This is the only episode in Book Two where the kids do not mention the search for an earthbending teacher. This is the first time hair loopies are mentioned by their name. This is the only episode in Avatar: The Last Airbender in which fire is produced and spread for destructive purposes by somebody other than a firebender. Sokka foreshadows events in season three as he speaks of losing things There is no recap to this episode. The other two episodes to do this are "The Boy in the Iceberg" and "The Swamp"

Avatar Kyoshi was the Avatar before Roku and hailed from the Earth kingdom. She died at the age of 230, making her the oldest confirmed human, she was also an exceptionally tall woman, towering over most people. She founded the organizations of the Kyoshi Warriors and the Dai Li. Kyoshi was unrelenting and strong-willed, always facing a conflict head-on rather than finding another solution and has gone down in history as the strongest avatar to have ever lived.
I only realized this after rewatching the episode but at 8:33 when they said "Just us," it's also a reference to one of the original spellings of Justice, being Justus. some of the others being Justeis, Justitia, and Justise.

That tornado Kyoshi caused was a channeling effect ,same fog was when rouku channeled aang in sozin comet episode.
