- So the biggest The Last of Us news since probably the announcement of the last of us part II just happened today. Not only was a the last of us part I remake confirmed, it also got a trailer and a relase date - only three months away too!
Hey everyone! This video is kinda lika a blast from the past. It’s a fullblown, or maybe overblown breakdown and analysis of the just released the last of us part I / the last of us remake trailer. I will be breaking down the remake trailer shot for shot, analysing them to best of my ability trying to get a little more insight into potential story/lore updates in this new the last of us remake. While obviously looking out for and discussing new gameplay too.

First breakdown video in almost three years! Feels kinda weird but also good, especially when it’s something so incredibly exciting as a remake of the best game ever made.
Also, apologies for potential editing (and writing) mistakes/sloppiness, and even some lazy editing toward the end. I worked on this vid pretty much 18-20 hours straight to get it out as fast as possible, so didn’t have my usual energy all the way through.

One of the minor details that I really appreciate is the redesign of the characters not looking like super models like they did before. Although the setting was supposed to be 20yrs after the apocalypse the main cast like Tommy, Tess, Maria and Joel looked unrealistically attractive for their supposed setting. With the redesign, they now look so much more like battered and jaded survivors than they did before. At least for me, it'll help with the immersion of the game.
I don’t know Joel’s old design had more sharper features while his new design much more round and soft I liked his old design because it looked hardened
Although, if I'm being honest, I kinda like the idea of them being good looking. It gave way to the concept of there still being hope in the world of tlou, not just death and horror, but a real chance at living, not just surviving.
Characters can be attractive and look realistic , I’m not seeing why they have to be less attractive just because it’s an apocalypse.
@@kujo4388 Not every main character has to be Hollywood-like attractive. Especially Last of Us characters like Tess and Tommy that looked like they were fresh out of movie set trailer. I highly doubt in an apocalypse that people would really care so much about how they look when they're fighting day to day just to survive. When it comes to movies or other media it seems like only the models are good enough to be main characters.

I’m in my final year of university studying computer science & game development, which is very time consuming unfortunately. I’ve not forgotten about the channel and I would certainly like to be more active than I am, but that’s where my time has gone. I agree though, tlou is bigger than ever now so it would be a perfect time to come back. I will do my best to make time for it

I think your npc analysis is spot on i think a big reason for this remake is for it to be in line with part 2. The story of p2 relies on its npc of the doctor. Before they just made him an npc to be killed because they didnt think of p2 and thus a throw away character. In the og ps3 version he is darker because they just used any npc and the lighting was rough.
They tried to lighten him up in the remaster and now they have the technology to do that scene right in terms of lighting. My arguement is simply why would they use the same voice actor for the doctor but then make him look different in three separate versions of the game? They want this one to be the one so there is no confusion between the fanbase but because of this it is still going to cause problems because some people just dont like p2 and that will not change even if they try and make p1 align with p2 in terms of ai etc.
I can’t be the only person who thinks they made David look so much creepier than he did in the original, right? I mean he was creepy in the first one, but now he definitely looks like a pervert!!

I'm so glad they remade the game The Last of us franchise is already my favorite of all time so I'm happy to see they're still working on the legendary franchise and I hope they continue its legacy btw keep up the good work on the videos man 💜

for the mattress that you nitpicked it could be that its made out of some kind of silk that reflects light since i used to have one and reflected all the time

Problem is they are marketing this game on comparisons to a title that still holds up and emotes characters better than a lot of games now. This thing should be shown from a gameplay perspective, I don’t need the cutscenes to look better I want the gameplay to feel and be better so it can match the AAA movie quality cutscenes. The biggest criticism of 1 was gameplay, the biggest criticism of 2 was no Joel. So market you Joel game with how much better the gameplay is THATS ALL YOU NEED TO DO

Remake will probably have more story or maybe even more cutscenes for example the military actually holding Tess and killing or Sarah dying in the QZ zone

By the way, that plaque under the university statue is mostly legible (at least on ps4). Curiously, the left ¼ portion appears to be a mirror image of the right portion with some layering on top. It's possible to read most of the text so I'm not sure why they did this.
My biggest hope is they don’t retcon anything, and that the guns work like they should IRL, having the bolt action be semi automatic in the first game bothers me even to this day.
What would they even retcon?

The bit of "From the Ground Up" makes me wonder if this is a simple graphical update or Black Mesa. Either way, I guess it'll warrant another playthrough.
Eh I don’t think the grass looks out of place in the first fall scene because in Ohio we have times like that where you can still see the green grass and it’s fall and even snowing with green grass
Welcome back . I missed your lore videos and can’t wait to see what new things the enhanced graphics make visible. Also, it does seem the hospital scene at the end is the most likely place that ND may lean into Part 2’s version to make Abby’s father look more sympathetic.
I see many complaining on whether or not this is worth $70. This is a masterpiece. I am an old-school gamer as I prefer single player, story driven games over the multiplayer gameplay. Is it worth it? Yes, as high gas prices and high inflation, chip shortages also affect game developers (I was being funny, lol). I absolutely love TLOU for the story never even cared about multiplayer at all, so I plan to upgrade as $70, well it just isn't that much to me if it is a game I want as most games I buy now are $99 plus since I usually buy extended versions. TLOU2 is my game of last generation as I have logged over 200 hours into that one, so Sony and Naughty Dog will get my money, but I understand, if it is not worth it to you, then don't spend your money, but many will. I hope TLOU has game save migration, so I continue with my current game save.
People bring up Dead Space and RE4 remakes. Yes, Capcom will also get my money as I have loved what they have done with the RE games release remakes in off years and remasters and new games in other years. Love the Dead Space games but Capcom pisses me off as I was hoping in the meantime why not just add DS 1 2 3 to X1X, Series consoles 4K enhancement list as the current games are fantastic and could add some life into them cleaning up the X360 visuals.

I hope I don't have to rely on the modding community to swap Ellie and Joel's face for the original. They look so different in this remake. I hope the game includes a toggle switch so I can have all the upgraded graphics, but with the old faces that made this game for me. I think Ellie in particular looks so much better in the original, and it feels like the new Ellie is a totally different person. The eyes are the window to the soul, they say, and it is so important to get it right. Joel has more grey in his beard in the remake. Also, I hope they don't alter the story in any way, the Remastered version for PS4 was already perfect in my eyes. I am glad they are bringing it to PC so I can be much more accurate with my shots and so I can mod it if necessary for the faces, but I hope it doesn't come to that.
But the faces are consistent with Part 2 now.

Has the main part 1 music been re-recorded as well? When bill starts talking and it plays the main theme it sounds different. More reverb maybe? Sounds like it's being played in a cathedral.
Welcome back man 😃 Nice to see you diving in TLOU again 👍 Besides awesome graphics that, clearly, are going to be even better than in Part 2, I'm also excited about the new exploration possibilities, just like you. Would be really cool to see new pockets of environment that ND either excluded from the original game for different reasons or came up with just for the remake. It could rejuvenate that feeling of an abandoned world we adored so much in TLOU. The game looks amazing, and I'm also curious about the changes in gameplay. You're gonna get an upgraded "Just get on wit it" 😆 Also, the way Ellie reacts to the lightning when they're going towards the skyscrapers in the trailer is awesome. Oh, and I don't need the early upgrades as well, it feels better to find everything on your own.

Hej! Gillar och uppskattar dina insiktsfulla videos om TLoU-serien. Håller med dig i mycket av din kritik och besvikelse över tvåans story, även om man kanske inte är helt överens om allt. Personligen känner jag att det fanns en mycket bättre underliggande story i bakgrunden i Part II, dvs all lore och kultur inom Seraphite-kulten. Både när man spelade som Ellie och Abby så dök det hela tiden upp små ledtrådar, dokument, graffiti, tempel osv relaterat till den mystiska "Prophet woman". Varje gång man hittade en träfigur av profeten så spelades en mörk ödesdiger musik i bakgrunden, och det kändes verkligen som att storyn byggdes upp inför något stort relaterat till den här mystiska profetkvinnan och hennes kult. Så du kan ju ana min besvikelse när det visade sig att storyn inte alls ledde till något sådant, utan det enda som händer är att man åker till Seraphites-ön, räddar Lev, dödar några soldater och flyr medan hela ön brinner ner.
Har du funderat på att göra någon mer djupgående video om Seraphites, eller närmare bestämt "Prophet woman"? Jag finner hennes bakgrundshistoria otroligt fascinerande, och är besviken över att vi inte fick reda på mer om henne. Mest besviken är jag över att hon är död i storyn, det hade varit otroligt häftigt ifall hon fortfarande fanns på ön som en mäktig ledarfigur.

Just dropped by and observed that you were wondering about why they are acting like this is a Playstation 5 exclusive. This was showcased in a Playstation event. So that is the reason why it only mentions playstation on the main reel. It is common practice in showcases. Takr a look at xbox showcase mentioning only xbox and pc even though it will also come to playstation.
Just 80 days? They should take their time. As a PC player iam suprised they decided they want to release on this plattform, but probably at a much later date. Looks like they realized that nobody can get their hands on a PS5 and Pc players do exist, also iam already waiting for mods :) Until then Iam happily playing TLOU over and over again on RPCS3 :)
One thing I'm looking foforward to in the PC release is the mods. I always wanted to play as Tess, Tommy, and the fat man. With mods it'll most likely be possible.

I'm not to excited, part 2 was hot garbage. This remake is literally the same game we already played, just with a few minor upgrades. Also factions will only be for ps5, so naughty dog is giving us ps4 owners the finger yet again. Just start the whole series over again with new characters, let Joel and Ellie rest. Also make part two non cannon.
Part 2 was incredible, and this game is rebuilt in Part 2's engine, so the upgrades aren't minor. Also, the PS5 has been out for a year and a half now. You shouldn't be surprised that devs are moving forwards.
Shouldn't move forward to ps5 when most people still cant even get one and with prices of everything skyrocketing and it looking like its going to be great depression 2 something tells me pc will be bulk of sales. I agree that tlou2 was hot garbage and needs to be thrown away. We all agree that the graphics were pretty and the gameplay was fun but the story and its pacing were shit.

I Think the answer is No. Because there is a Multiplayer in the work and it wouldn't make sense when they would include the Multiplayer of Part 1 Remastert in it.

Will it likely include expanded areas to explore and/or new dialogue/story?
It will look better, but it's overpriced. I also worry how many bad ideas/revisions from TLOU 2's will be inserted into the game
Retconning in favour of part II is my number one worry as well.
What would they even revise? Part 1 already goes perfectly into Part 2.
I do want the doctor at the end to look like Abby's dad. That sounds awful but for story purposes I feel that needs to happen.

why are they making a last of us remake, the game is in out hearts as a good memory, and now they are changing the environment, characters, characters voice, and the way characters look, but why what's the point they are my love for the game because that is last of us, we don't need to change it, we don't its already had a remasterd version, what's the point of it, must be a money making scheme, really just ruining it, the original is always gonna be the best, look at other companies like Coca-Cola, everyone only really drinks the original flavor, why are they changing everything, like that doesn't even look like original ellie at all, and that really makes me feel shit like it dosent even make any sense, those were the faces of ellie and joel we grew up with, why change it, i really think its just a money making scheme and they are damaging the enjoymant of the game like i doubt pc players will even be able to play the remastered version, it just really bothers me they are changing what we all remember, like what is the main reason for this i still don't understand, why didn't they make all these changes in the remasted version, someone please explain i am so bothered by it, i just don't understand feels like a memory is being ruined!!
