  • I got a new car a few months back, and I wanted to also get a new hitch bike rack. 1UP was the rack of choice for me. In this video I install the rack and give a review comparing it to me last trunk rack.

    I’m a yuge fan of my 1up rack. Totally worth the few extra dollarie doos. If you’re a solo rider like me you can save a little cash by just getting the single rack which can be expanded to two later. 🤑

    I love my 1up! I started with a single tray and then bought an add-on. My original tray is about 5 years old and still works as new (even after being rear ended twice). I also have a Subaru and the beeping is annoying but I end up taking my rack off often and just throwing it in the garage when I'm not riding.

    I've been using a 1up rack for a few years now. It's great - holds everything from my enduro bike to my triathlon bike without any issue. I've had more people stop me to ask about my bike rack than about any of my bikes. I had to turn off the beeping on the backup cam, just to maintain what little sanity I have left. You also might want to lock the rack to the car if you plan on leaving it on all the time.

    • @nofrontbrakes
      @nofrontbrakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how far you have it positioned from your bumper. Pushed the whole way in, I don't think you can. I only know that I don't like riding with it up, because it obscures my plate and I've been pulled over for that. I know there's a plate attachment for the rack, but haven't purchased it yet.

    I am currently using a trunk rack with my Fiesta hatchback. I hate having the weight of three bikes on my trunk and rear window. I am dying for another option, but I have no hitch.

    • @nofrontbrakes
      @nofrontbrakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They have a 1.25" diameter hitch version, and you should be able to install a hitch mount to your frame for < $150.

    • @NatetheAceOfficial
      @NatetheAceOfficial 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      eTrailer has a good bolt-on hitch option for ~$120. With strap style racks going for ~$100 - $200 it's not too bad. I just got a new bike so adding these costs on top of what I've already spent this season is not going to fly with the wife.

    Looks easier and more secure to attach the bike than my Kuat NV 2.0. Only things I am not see compared to my Kuat is a locking hitch pin and built in bike locks. Does the rack lock on the car, is there a hitch pin, and are there built in locks for the bikes?

      They do have a 4 bike option, it's basically the two bike rack with a two bike extension. The four bike option does require the full size hitch as the smaller hitch found on a lot of cars can't take the weight.

    I'm really interested in this rack for my 2020 Crosstrek and I was so glad to see a video with the rack being used on a Crosstrek. One question I'd love to know is if your car is equipped with the factory hitch. I ordered my Crosstrek with the factory hitch and I really need to know if there will be enough clearance between the rack and the bumper. If you don't have the factory hitch, do you know if the factory hitch will be mounted in the same position (in line with the bumper) as yours? Thanks so much for posting this helpful video.

      @The Crashing Dad I have the regular version. On my old car I did notice it come loose once. So far on this one it has not, but one thing that helps is on this one I can push it all the way into the receiver. It's so easy to take off and throw in the trunk, too, so if I know I won't be riding for several days, I'll do that.

      I put a very skinny hitch pin through the receiver and one up rack. When I tighten the Allan I wiggle the rack back and forth, doing so you will get another turn to turn and a half, now it’s tight.

    Good video - I like the format, too. I have the super duty and purchased two super duty add-ons so I can carry 4. Got the SD's so I can carry my eBikes with batterys attached and stay within the weight limit! I liked the fact that it's well made and you can get parts for it if it breaks. The only dislike is unlatching the bar so I can swivel it up/down (especially with it set-up for 3 or 4 bikes).
    There is a locking pin you can purchase for it that covers up the Hex bolt.
    Also you can purchase locking pins for the bike holder that locks through the wheels.
    I personally use a 10ft coated cable and lock that I run through the frame, wheels, and hitch (when i feel it's necessary to lock this up).

      My rear hatch isn't impeded by the rack. The only time it stops me from opening the hatch is when the rack is folded up against the back, but that's not often because I will get pulled over if the rack obstructs my license plate.
