Right on. It has taken me a while, but I am getting to the point that I am beginning to understand and agree with what you are talking about and apply it to my singing. Thanks for doing all these videos. I find them very interesting and useful. Your practical advice and down-to-earth presentation style and light-hearted demeanor is something that I value in particular. Loud is wrong, is an excellent and simple truth. Great distortion sounds loud, but isn't. That is an amazingly helpful insight.

I'm not seriously exploring compression or mix yet, but watching and playing along on the kinds of videos is helping me to explore my voice. The first song I ever sang in front of anyone was Rainbow Connection... in the voice of Kermit The Frog. These videos remind me of how I went about trying to imitate Kermit's voice.

Shinedown singer hits notes around C5. Surely that can't all be chest voice
I’ve seen him singing in a lot of live videos and he usually looks like he’s putting everything into it that he has physically. I’ve also seen videos where he was singing to playback (not actually singing) but I don’t follow and watch much of the band. He’s good! Not sure that he mixes. Always sounded to me like straight up pushed and compressed chest.

Heard what happened. Saddening news.
I initially learned to to the basic false chord death metal growl. What I struggle with is compressing and placement for the fry scream. I basically squeeze too much air-bad habit that obviously doesn't translate well from my old technique.

Singing and screaming was always fun, growing up. My friends would walk away sounding like an old mafia voice and i’d still be talking normal. Does that mean i’m doing something right?

For me the only 2 legitimate techniques are False chord and Pharyngeal grit and can be seamlessly interconnected and used together when you can sing through your range correctly. Professional rock singers have been using these techniques since the dawn of time or at least the 50's & 60's. The term Vocal Fry has been around forever should only apply to the creak added to a speaking voice, (Im surprised you didn't mention this?) but at some point in the mid 2000's the term was misused for a shitty and unhealthy sound made by noobs and hacks who don't know how to sing or scream. Also I disagree with your comment about Chester pushing/pulling up his chest voice as he had good clean technique, False chord screaming can be done quite high and gives the illusion of chest voice on high notes. Check out Devin Townsend's song Earth Day for good example of this, when he screams "Recycle @ 8.23", Cornell did this too, on Slaves and Bulldozers and Room A Thousand Years Wide, that's the sound of False and Pharyngeal at the same time. Mix voice should be loud ?
Mixed voice is quieter than regular voice. It’s a version of compression so it’ll almost always be a bit quieter.
relatively loud to make it sound strong, but will never be as loud as shouting
