      I own an EXTREMELY similar stool to this, it's even missing the bottom step also. Only the top of mine is PAINTED red (as is the remaining step), not upholstered. But mine has metal cross straps on the opposite side from the steps. It originally belonged to my husband's grandma who died in 1975.

    • @juliebaker6969
      @juliebaker6969 ปีที่แล้ว

      The finished product looks good, but I think I prefer the original red and white color scheme. 🤔 But then red's MY favorite color. 😉

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  ปีที่แล้ว

      This one may have been red also given what I saw on the step when I stripped the paint away. The top of this may have been replaced at some point too which is why it had no paint on it and the large gap in the wood.

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juliebaker6969 Right after I found this one, I saw a listing for one just like it at an estate sale and it was red and white. It looked really good and I almost considered duplicating that look but once I saw that most of the stool was nice-grained oak, I decided on highlighting that feature. I am now glad I did. Thanks for the feedback!

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I was unsure of the black at first but knew I had to do something different to cover the plywood piece that had the weird veneer or whatever it was. The textured matte finish looks pretty good in person against the stained grain of the oak pieces. It almost just blends in if that makes sense. Thanks for the nice feedback! 🍻

    Having a father who earned a living as a finish carpenter I am not easily impressed.
    But you sir are one of few that has impressed me. Your stripping of finishes, disassembly of the seat, stretchers, and legs was error free. The repair techniques are those of an experienced carpenter. Assembly and finishes were top quality for the “kitchen stool”. Attention to detailed was what made your effort an excellent example of what can be accomplished without having a large shop area stuffed with tools and gadgets,
    A tip of my hat to you for a job well done.

    TH-cam is reading my mind! 😮 I was just thinking about these stepstools earlier, remembering the avocado green one we had in the 1970s. Slightly different from this model but essentially the same design, just different materials. Since you popped in to my recommendations I shall certainly watch and listen. It’s the least I can do for someone with such a cool channel name. Who knows, I might have to subscribe. 😊

      TH-cam/Google knows everything. Always listening and watching! I bet avocado green looked cool on a piece like this and would have made a good alternative to the textured black I used here. You are the first person to ever comment on my channel name. Thank you so much!! I hope you stick around and I'll see you in the next one. ✌🏽

      Thanks. I was a bit hesitant to use the black coating on the step mount but the veneer on it demanded I do something different. I like how it turned out.

    Wonderful work! Excellent techniques and the final colouring is lovely! May I offer a suggestion regarding the lathe work? Try a cup centre on the tail stock next time rather than the pointed cone. It’ll make for a more centered rotation! Merry Christmas !

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip. I am very new to lathe work and don't know crap about technique yet. If you have time, will you give this video a view and see how I could have done things better? I had to use the same tools to fab up some pieces and I know there has to have been a better way. Thanks!! th-cam.com/video/hpYLDRt6fY0/w-d-xo.html Merry Christmas! 🎄
