Why dont they spend time cutting and polishing down some rough stones to increase its value. They get enough rough stuff to atleast practice on.Doesn't make sense to me to sell themselves short. $116k can turn into $250k +with right grinding toolz a bit of skill and practise. I kno I'd Rather be grinding than digging🤣🤣🤣
@@TurkishBenAirsoft i understand they cant cut and polish atm BUT with practice, skill, time, good equipment and bit of faith they can double even triple the value. I'm not a polisher of stones like these but with the right tools and practise material and time this would be quite acheiveable.
@@stevenkaukau5228 Your argument speaks well of having at least one person trained to cut on each crew. That would be my strategy, and you just made me think it's a sound one!
@@stevenkaukau5228 doing it wrong is worse than selling them raw, they likely will after this but they really needed this haul so I'm thinking they put everything they had into the stake, it paid off.
I love opals and enjoy cutting and polishing them. I have a collection of cut and uncut opals. It's time to start cutting and polishing my hoard of uncut stones.
Come to the Australian gold Fields mate I'll show you Opal just as good, Coober Pedy opal is beautiful, so is Western Australia opal that I'm mining over here, came 6 thousand k's across and around Australia to come back here after I inherited a lease from a fellow veteran now passed away god bless him.
Love this show just came across it recently and I must admit I’m hooked. Would love to be able to do something like this it’s right up my alley in terms of equipment operations / knowledge / work ethic I would just be clueless as to what I’m after but I do enjoy the dream I receive from watching the show. Awesome job guys
but when you think of it....why did nobody else come up with this? instead of digging like everybody else, you simply go thru the tailings with extra dirt and under neon light, the stones will light up.
Just look on ebay at someone like the opal queen's parcels and how much they go for. But yeah you are correct. They would never get this much for that as is.
Nice find, but $100/carat for rough??!! Not likely for the quality they showed. Even when you take into account that the Aussie dollar is worth less than the USD that price would be hard to get from any cutter. I prefer when they show what the stones actually sold for rather than a highly inflated estimate.
I agree. I regularly pay around $1,000 per oz AUD for quality Coober Pedy. You are never going to meet a nicer bunch of people than the blacklighters crew and their families. I have bought some beautiful opal from them at very fair prices. Their live auctions are awesome.... well done fellas....
Lucky bastards this REALLY MAKES ME WANNA go out and try opal mining, start out small maybe team up with a partner than later after finding the mother load, rip off my partner run off with the loot 😉 JOKING
I'm so so happy for this family's luck and good fortune!
Me too!
Love seeing the ones that need it get scores like that. Well done guys.

if opal hunting gets me a pool like that count us in lad
I wonder how many larger pieces of opal are busted into smaller pieces by the way that trommel is dropping the material back down on itself ?
Fuggin flies I'm swatting them and I am in my office in the US!

What is with all the flies?
Yep lightning ridge here I come
That will last about a week
Not all precious opal glows though. I know for a fact working with opal for some time now.
Good job 👏👍

Congratz
I think the real fortune in hunting opal is to find a way to rid the area of the flies 💰
What do I have to study to extract opals?
Luck
Just a question...... given the sun... why arent they harvesting solar energy to run these machines?
It would be nice if the amount paid for the opal was made public
Why doesn’t Victoria have opal :-(
That is a job for really man
B.S. They could slow down the belt as to not miss any stones.
i wish i work there... my dream job...
The flies - nightmare
GO THROUGH THE #TAILINGS! 💯💥👀👈🏽🤠
And 500gr of flies. Feel sorry for these people. Well done boys.
That's awesome!
They should slow down the belt the stuff is too expensive to miss.
They will be chasing that dragon for the rest of their lives.
Nice but over valued. Would be good to know what they actually got for the parcel
Just look on ebay at someone like the opal queen's parcels and how much they go for. But yeah you are correct. They would never get this much for that as is.
Opalzilla looks spot like gold zilla.
very nice

Hi
first week,lol!!!
Y'all gotta jump in the water that makes it .
Well in felas .
Twelve mouths to feed on AU$116,000? Just under ten grand each. Still, if they've found the sweet spot, then yee-haaaa!
That’s in one week! If they can keep that up over a year they’ll all be millionaires in no time!
Overvalued ,sounds like a TV show than reality of this business.
gg bois

And those are not even semi polished... 😰
The flies look awful

Discrimination. All stones and metals should have equal value. At least acknowledge what iron and granite have done for mankind.
