I love watching this show but after watching for a few years I'm thinking I should open a mobile mechanic/welding business near some of the fields. It's amazing how many things break down every episode (or the show just does it for the ratings). I do wish they'd stop just rehashing old seasons and show more up to date clips.

Should teach the young fella about rotating parts on heavy machinery he had his hands on a piece of rotating steel while spraying the belt and that looked like a deadly accident waiting to happen, nice opals tho haha
If I had what they have, I’d wash everything and store the bags till after the season is done. My thinking is that because you can’t work in the mines during the off season, as it’s not safe, I would save that time with just mining a go through the bags at my leisure. Maximize your mining time with just mining, do waste it on things not mining related. Seriously, this could be an extra week in the mine and that means more chance to get the mother lode. In my opinion that is.
The show almost makes it appear that Opal is common rather than scares. Multiply out the average amount of Opal featured on the show times the total number of opal miners in Australia and it seems like they’re actually finding a lot of opal. What are the actual numbers on total opal produced in Australia per year? How about an episode taking the best find of the year from the entire series and following it the entire path from dirt to auction with all the steps in between.
The Opal market is super inflated like the diamond market. The true value of opal is not nearly that high. Most of the hype is around specific extraordinary finds like for example the piece he found in this episode as it had very crazy blue colors on one side and red on the other which makes it a little more rare but 99% of opal is generic and sold by parcel for way less.
