    I like this a lot because he's not telling him to just move on or get over it. He's saying to let himself feel the hurt that comes from things like that, but not to lose himself over it and never let himself be happy again. Take the good with the bad. Really healthy advice compared to some of the mentalities people had at the time.

      Considering the time period, it was a perfect speech to give to his son. Back then, there weren’t a lot of time for talking about emotions. Things needed to be done or you didn’t survive. The fact that his father took the time to assess and acknowledge his feelings in a thoughtful and concise way speaks to his worth as a good father.

    People lose dogs all the time and it's hard and it hurts. I've lost quite a few dogs in my life but then I would get a new one and start over. It makes me feel better but it doesn't make me forget the previous dogs as it shouldn't. But like Travis's father says, losing someone you care about is part of life. Life isn't always easy or fair.

    the father in old yeller, Atticus in to kill a mockingbird, and mufasa in The Lion King are in my opinion three of the best fathers in cinima.
    in to kill a mockingbird Atticus says to his son, "there are a lot of ugly things in this world son, I wish I can protect you from all of them but that's never possible."
    in The Lion King mufasa says to his son," being brave doesn't mean you go looking for trouble."

      I love how the father communicated this message to his son.
      Unlike some fathers these days who are so stuck on turning their sons into "tough guys" the father did not come right out and tell his son that he has to get over it like a man.
      The father acknowledged how his son felt and verified his feelings while still trying to communicate the message to him that he has to keep on being a man.

    When Duffy, Mom's Westie died years ago, I was with her when she went out to the same kennel to get another one afterwards. As we stood in front of a gate with maybe a half dozen Westie pups on the other side- THERE HE WAS- Duffy! The very SAME dog. Being a seer I was absolutely SURE of it. That was him all right. She picked out another. I wasn't sure if she had seen him and I didn't say anything, though I wished later I had. She might've thought I was crazy, and I feared her scorn at the thought, but maybe she just didn't see. She really really loved Duffy and took his loss hard, but had talked about how his ears were too floppy for a show dog or something, and she chose a heavier dogs with ears that stood up. But THERE HE WAS- at the same kennel she'd gotten him before. It made sense to me. God is good, and not the punisher people who want to make God in THEIR image like to think.

    One of the most overrated movies ever, in my opinion. However, I will admit this scene has a geniunley good message to teach to kids. It still doesn't make up for the empty sentimentality, one dimensional characters, and just the overall cheapness of it, but hey, that's just me.

      Hamza Rouri damn bro. It’s the 50s it is not supposed to be perfect.

      @@DanielF892 well, Tokyo Story is my favorite movie of all time and that came out in 1953. The whole "it's of its' time argument" doesn't work. There's an endless list of excellent films that came out in the 50s and to me Old Yeller is not among them.

      Hamza Rouri I think it is. For a kids movie yeah. The dog old yeller was the best actor. Haha. I like the old man too

      Hamza Rouri . If you are going to criticize something, give your reasons and explain them. How is it overrated? Where does it have empty sentimentality? Who are the one dimensional characters? How was it very cheapy. I think it was and is very important to have a film acknowledge that a pets death is very keenly felt and it is important to be understanding towards the grieving owner. I also think it is important to show children they can do well in stressful and demanding situations. I thought the characters were very well developed and the feelings they showed were well acted, making them feel so real.

    "Try and forget it"? That's seriously what you're going with? What kind of nonsense is that?

    • @aminsadeghpour1549
      @aminsadeghpour1549 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The father is not really saying forget it. Like he said it's not something you can or want to forget. What he is saying is that when time's get rough you have to look for something good to take the place of the bad. In the case of Old Yeller, Travis has to remember the good times he and Old Yeller had together and hang onto all of it.

    • @sandp6900

      “How you gonna forget something like that?”
      “Well, I guess I don’t quite mean that. I guess it’s not a thing you can forget. Maybe not even a thing you want to forget.”
      Can’t believe you didn’t even listen properly and you want to criticise it. Yikes.

    • @YTWarrior100
      @YTWarrior100 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sandp6900 I *DID* listen to that. The only reason said he didn't mean it was because Travis questioned how he could. It was still his initial advice to try and forget it, which is absolute nonsense.
