    Perfect timing, I just cleaned and sorted several bags of Red Kidney Beans, Pinto Beans and Great Northern Beans, tomorrow I wash them and start canning them. It’s going to be a long day, but the thought of having a full pantry makes all worthwhile. I used to buy Brooks hot Chili Beans, but I found a copycat recipe that I’m going to try, if it turns out I’ll give you the recipe. 🤔I’ll have to check to see if you have a recipe for them. Cindy

    Great video. I just learned how to pressure can two years ago and I am 61 now. I love chicken white chili so scrolling through the comments I see you answered that for 7 quarts we need 3 1/2 lbs dry measure. Look forward to watching more of your content.

    ROFLMAO you’ll get a face lift but not the way you want it. Lol crack me up. Reminds me of when I decided that I was going to smell the steam coming out of the canner because I wanted to see how good it was yeah right I burned my nose off lol

    I heat my jars in the canner as well...seems like a better choice for conserving water. I also soak my beans overnight because I think it's easier than a quick soak.

      Yes, Beans are treated the same as meat 90 minutes for quarts and 75 minutes for pints.

    Do you put salt in each jar before canning and can you put ham in it before canning.??? If so how much ham should go in each jar.

    Oh no 😮I always heat my jars in the oven. What is the reasoning for it not being a good idea? Just love your videos! Thanks 😊

    • @LittleVillageHomestead
      @LittleVillageHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you place a bunch of empty glass jars on the metal racks of your oven, or on a metal sheet pan in the oven, the metal will heat up and transfer a bunch of energy into the bottom of the glass jars at a far faster rate than the air will be sending energy into the top of the glass. Unequal rate of energy to different parts of the jar = unequal rate of expansion to the jar itself = the possibility for the kind of thermal stress that can lead to cracked jars.

      @@LittleVillageHomestead ok that makes a lot of sense. I was trying to cut some corners but I’ll go back to warming them up in my canner. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question. Appreciate it!😊

    How many pounds of beans did you use? Thanks for sharing :)

    • @LittleVillageHomestead
      @LittleVillageHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I used 1/2 pound of dry beans per quart jar so it would take about 3-1/2 pounds of dry beans for 7 quart canner load. Of course you need to either soak them overnight first or do the quick soak method before filling your jars and make sure to leave plenty head space.
