Your old canner demonstrated that we don’t need top of the line equipment for such simple tasks as canning. Many people, especially now, cant afford them. I can alot and have both the Pesto 16 and 23 quart and am very happy with them. As I get older I dont have strength to lift the All Americans. Love having seasoned canned beans in my pantry too! I only wash my beans and don’t pre cook. Ranch beans are wonderful this way. 😋

If this canner was human, I'd marry it. Renae quotes! You gas me! My Grandma's Highpoint stove is wanky, broke. No parts, no GE, doesn't fit. It doesn't matter I'm a working stiff. And that's ok! Because I love the USA!

Your old canner dying in the middle of a canning session was a message, more like a billboard-“but an All American! You’ll love it”😂 With all the explosions, fires & destruction of trains, farms(2000 chickens in 1 fire😩)& food processing plants speeding up the supply shortage to starve us out, that canner may help save your village!

Canned pinto beans are on my list for this weekend. Ms Renée just something I've learned over time: I use Vaseline to lubricate my lid because it dosent leave any residue once heated. Olive and veg oil leaves a residue over time and its a pain in the you know what to scrub off!.

I get lentils quite often from commodities. We don't care for lentils alone so when I can black beans I add lentils in. About 2 part black beans to 1 part lentils. They cook down and become filler to everything I use beans in. No waste and we benefit from the lentil nutrition.

Hi Renea! Yes, canned beans are so convenient. I use pinto, black beans, red kidney beans and so many beans. I love to grab canned taco meat, black or pinto beans, tomatoes and corn with some beef broth and whip up a taco soup in 10 minutes. A dump and heat quick meal. Chicken and bean soup seasoned is delicious too. Just so many ways to use canned beans.
My first canner was an All American canner, then I bought a 16 quart Presto, 23 quart Presto and an electric canner I use for 4 quarts or small batches. Been canning since 1970 when my grandmother taught me, I was young, but loved helping my grandmother in the kitchen or garden. I have my grandmother’s high school home economics cookbook that has many old and depression recipes and some delicious jam and jellies. Have a blessed evening!

I have 3 All American 921 canners. I'm not bragging as I got them on an extremely wonderful sale for 125.00 each. I couldn't believe my eyes. I used them to can massive amounts of pints of Sockeye Salmon. Summer camping in Alaska is hard work the family and I fished for them and I processed them. I removed the bones and skinned them so there was none of that in the jars. I understand why you are so excited about the All American canner as it is the Cadillac of all canner!

The most important reasons to can beans is so they don’t dry out and go bad in storage and so you’re not wasting water soaking and boiling them in a grid down situation.

Does the canner have a gauge? Try soaking the jiggler in vinegar , maybe there is something that is plugging it up. Get a different jiggler. Get a universal one. It has 5,10 and 15 lbs on it.

you can order a jiggler for your presto here. if this not the kind you need just look around. Also before you order, make sure the vent the jiggler sets on is not clogged. It has to be something simple. It usually is. but here is a ink to a jiggler for Presto.

My 921 holds 16 pints, and I’ve found that the middle rack works better if I turn it upside down so the rim doesn’t need to fit over the bottom jars. 8 on bottom and 8 on top.
I have the same jar grabber that you do and I use it to pull out the middle rack; the grabbers fit the two big holes on the rack perfectly.

Beans is something I haven't canned yet. I've got to reorganize my shelves before I can anything else! Let it get a little out of hand being lazy! I'd love to do a bunch of kidney beans, pintos, navy beans, and black beans just to have on the shelf for quick easy meals!
If you are using FORJARS lids, those still need soaked in boiling water. I've switched to using just FORJARS lids I like them so much..I was having way to many fails with the Ball Lids and Golden Harvest lids. The rubber was just way to thin.....I'd love to have a All American but being 63 I've noticed some loss of strength and don't know if I could move it. Now if someone gave me one or I ran into one at a estate sale I might give it a try.

Most often vinegar is used to wipe the rims when canning things like meats or broth that has some fat content. The vinegar will cut through that better than just water. I use the vinegar no matter what I am putting in, just out of habit.

@@donnad57 That makes sense. Whenever Momma had any meat to can it was done on the weekend when Daddy was home. Momma was always scared to use the pressure cooker so he did those foods. I wasn't allowed to help which is likely why I have the same fear! I tried to use an Instant Pot I got as a gift once. It did not go well and went back in the box after it & the entire kitchen had been cleaned. I am sure I made the mistake but Daddy said the screen still should have said something was wrong. I still use my crock pot because I can add things in steps and rest my legs when I need to. Actually I have split pea soup going now. Great for a day of sleet, snow & high winds!
