Hey all! Welcome to Video #5 in the "Idiot's Guide" series! In this vid we will learn how to load/import our downloaded Presets and Impulse Responses (IR's) on to our Helix devices.
We will then learn how to:
• Select a Downloaded Preset in HX Edit
• Choose and Assign an IR in HX Edit
• Select a Downloaded Preset ON THE HELIX
• Choose and Assign an IR ON THE HELIX
This will be one of the few videos in this series where we utilize HX Edit. NOT because I have issue with using the editor, I just want you all to get used to editing on the hardware itself.
Remember, these vids are meant for guys NEW to Helix so they may seem rudimentary for more experienced Helix owners. The goal is to provide quick bits of specific info in regards to basic Helix usage and patch creation.

Awesome man! Congrats on the Helix. Such a killer piece of gear.
It’s a stand from a company called OnStage. They don’t make this one anymore but there’s a new version. The sides of the “holder” are a little different. The Helix LT was actually a perfect fit. The Floor is a LITTLE snug so I cut up a dish towel and put it on the sides to not scratch it. Holds great though.

is the factory 1 drop down menu where you can get to a user file only on the helix?
i watched this trying to learn how to load on HX stomp, and not seeing a similar menu..,
maybe it doesnt have that feature?
OK Thanks heaps for that on a side note ...... How do you get the IR just on your HELIX PEDAL if you dont have Helix native?
And then how do you remove IRs that you no longer use?

Hey Jeremy, I have an LT and Native, I had a terrible time trying to figure out how to assign the expression pedal so that Native could be used instead of the LT for quickly customizing and laying parts. I finally figured out something very obtuse that helped me and maybe you can think about doing a video on how to use the LT/Native together. My solution was to edit my patch on the LT and add a wah effect, assign to Exp 1, but I didn't save it, and voila, now Native knows the pedal is there and works. Would love to hear your comments on why this is and if there is a better approach. Thanks so much!
So My Line 6 Helix floor already has the 3.7. Is that why when I want to try and download the HX Edit nothing comes up after 'go'. There should be like a "get, then like terms and conditions....none of that comes up

Hello Jeremy very helpful on all your videos thank you for that. I see you recommended a stand that hold the helix floor unit I just wanted to make sure it was the floor unit that fits. The stand states that it holds a 21.5 Width but the floor unit is 22.05 wide according to specs from line 6. Just wondering if you could give more detail before I buy.
Yep. It holds both the LT and Floor. The Floor is a LITTLE snug so I cut up a black gym towel to protect the sides from scratching. Mine is an older stand though and the new design is SLIGHTLY different and I’ve not tried it.
Can you down load IRS onto the HX stomp XL the same way?

Question: so if I use an amp and an IR, I don’t use the cab? Correct?
Could you use an Amp and an IR on one side and drop down to a cab on the other?
Or run dual amps, one IR one cab?
You can totally use a combo of IR and Cab block if you want. Many people do for sure. You can also run 2 amps into one cab or IR. Just use a split. I am doing a Pt. 2 to the IR/Cab vid.
Helix question, I'm adding more and more presets, can you add new user folders? In HX edit?
Just got an helix lt today no clue what I’m doing downloading a patch but I’m using 4 cable method but only sound I get is clean channel not the priest I downloaded any help would be great
I got some presets on my Helix Floor that i bought that i want to use with Helix Native .......
...can you copy/paste presets from the HX Edit to the Helix Native plugin the same way???

I just bought a collection of presets from tine junkie. Unfortunately, they don't have a folder with all of the presets. Each preset is its own folder so I have 100 folders to move over, one folder at a time. Grrrrrr

Now the zip file only gives 2 files
1: LRS Rev'd EV30 1.hir = 10kb
2: Rev'd Purple Pre.pgp = kb
Did this go well?

can someone please tell me what an impulse response is?
Hey there! so basically and Impulse Response is an audio snapshot of a speaker and microphone or even multiple microphones. just like when in a studio and your cab is mic’d up. An Impulse Response is a capture of the mic in that position on the speaker.

How do you get hx edit
Lol. I can't even install hx edit. I downloaded it a bunch of times. It said successful but it's not there. When i click the icon it just downloads it again.
I just got my helix last week I geuss I am a dummy because I can not get where to get the IRs
These tutorials are helpful, but you didn't explain what an impulse response even is!
Oh man! Sorry. This is the 2nd comment about me hauling ass while explaining. I will make a dedicated IR vid asap. I will try and have it up in the next day or two! Thanks for pointing that out.
What is IR? You got a lot of pedal guys here. That word means nothing to us and have no idea what it is.
An IR is an Impulse Response. It is effectively a capture of a Microphone + Speaker that you can use in place of a stock Helix cabinet. They are sold by dozens of companies. You can find Mesa, Engl, Friedman… all brands and speaker/mic combos. These generally sound better (but not always) than stock cabinets.
@@JeremyVarao Oh wow. Another layer of complexity. You have the Helix Speaker cabs but also I guess you also have the same cabs but mic'd. And I'm sure along with that goes another layer of complexity---Mic selection? I just pray to God that we don't even have the option of MIC PLACEMENT. I'm pretty good with tech but wow. It is gonna be a big change from years of pedals. Unit comes in two days.
The most important part of actually adding the IR to the Preset was too fast. You switch between IRs and I got lost. Good try though.
