Hands down, you have the best Line 6 Helix instruction videos on TH-cam, perhaps the entire internet even! Thank you for another great Helix video Scott!
Thank you.. I currently learning more on my Helix as a adult student at the School of Rock. Since our sets of songs have a variety of songs and sounds it is nice to have the ability to use snapshots when playing songs ranging from Heavy Metal with clean verses and heavy chorus then having a song with a straight clean tone.
This guy is a amazing at making things quick and easy to understand, I agree with others... hands down the best Helix instructional you can get. Thankyou so much.
I love how you explain the Helix in your videos so simply AND include chapters. It's also great to see you work on the actual board instead of HX Edit. The desktop controller is nice and all, but it's valuable to see some things on the actual board. I found your videos about 10 months into my Helix purchase and they're the only ones I'm sticking to! Using Snapshots for my music theatre pit gigs. Lots of different types of sounds in a hurry make snapshots and Helix the perfect combo!
Great video, just like your others. I set up my Helix in 8ch snapshot mode. And usually setup and name snapshots to Intro, verse, chorus, solo, and anything else needed for the song. Save that for each specific song. Then create a set list of songs to match our set. Then it’s just Bank down to get the next song. Play it. Bank down for the next, etc….
I’m using snapshots like in the good old days. Lol. I like using it to control my amp model from clean to dirty to insane. Having stomp effect ready to stomp on if needed. I love a more raw Sound on my amp. Not so crazy polished… sounding. Then doodle with the band… but if I gigged I would use it per song…. Thanks for being so patient in your videos. Feel like we are friends all ready… in fact you are to me though we have never met… Thanks a million…
Hey Scott, thank you so much for this video, watched it twice this afternoon and when I got home to my studio this evening, I was able to completely reconfigure my entire Helix layout thanks to your clear and concise explanations of how to use it and had to alter all of the parameters thank you so much, my friend ❤
Scott, nice demo. I had used snapshots on my Helix LT for my first EP with The Garagemen and the approach worked just great. I set up by [Song Name] as the preset, and then each song had snapshots for Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Outro, Ending, etc. - as necessary. I haven't been so good about using this approach with The Bad Selves, and I can see that I need to get with it, again. Wanted a quick refresher - which I got, here, along with some tips on aspects I did not know about. Thank you and Best, Scott.
This is another great video. I'm new to Helix LT but already I can see how I want to use this. Each user ID = a set list. One setlist in my case might be all Led Zep. Another one might be all Motley Crue, etc. Within the setlists I'll save presets by song and within each on various snapshots to transition from e.g. intro to verse to chorus to verse to solo, etc. It was awesome that you pointed out how you can adjust the parameters of each effect block in different snapshots. Sometimes I want my gain a little higher in a certain part of the song. Now I can have that programmed in. This is phenomenal! Thanks again!
Great content. Using JVM410HJS in 4-cable with Helix Floor. Now moving to snapshots as I understand it's possible to send midi to the Marshall for channel-switching via the command center. This is a diff level.
Thanks! Your explanation on discard and recall is super helpful. My helix was set on recall and it was driving me crazy! I didn’t know how to change that until I just watched your video.
Scott you are the most helpful musician on TH-cam! And one of the best things about you is that you are not lazy at all! And what I mean by that is that you assume that people have questions at the most fundamental level, so you don't gloss over the most basic details. You put out the effort to anticipate questions and then take the time to explain every procedure from bottom to top. Thank you so much!
Thanx for sharing your hard work and hours of research ! So other musicians can create not trying to figure out the machine and losing the Pinnacle of the creative moment
Scott, you have explained how to use and setup Snapshots perfectly. I hadn't started learning how to use Snapshots until today. I was worried that I would mess all my User Created Presets but you laid it out so well. Thank you so much.
You have made my day. Changing to 10 switches means I don’t accidentally hit the bank button anymore. For me this is massive. Like my stupid massive wide Māori foot. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏽
Thanks so much Scott. This vid has convinced me to buy a Helix. I am in a covers band so having a mix of snapshots and stomps will give me the flexibility I need without having to remember all those patches and banks! 🤘👌😎
I just bought the Helix LT, and have been going over your videos the past few days. First off, thank you SO MUCH for these in-depth tutorials. I've gone through a lot on the net, but most just confused me; I suck at all this. Not sure if it's due to the recent update, but my LT allows me to rename the snapshot.
Nice! I don’t have the LT so I might have gotten that wrong… but I mean that it doesn’t display above the pedals because the LT doesn’t have that. And don’t feel bad, it can be intimidating to get used to at first but it’s worth the journey for sure!
@@ScottUhlMusic oh, most definitely. Overwhelming, but tons of fun, and as you called it: lots of "No way!" moments. * The snapshot names don't appear above the pedals, but can be seen on the display.
Well, i am new, so been a tub amp am guitar player for a long time. All i need is 2 snapshots, one good clean one dirty, and in stomp mode just to trun on and off Efx i love my helix rack tone is great and i dont have to worry about tubs any more just teaching old dog new tricks lol
thanks for this! concise and very informative. funny gifs comedically well timed on certain words. it was the perfect tutorial for me to learn how to do this. subscribed!
Hey Scott, great easy to follow video. I had been using the stomp mode since I got my board last year but found that I sometimes stepped on more that one button which was a problem when playing live. So I looked for an easy to follow video and found yours. Thank you very much for the video instruction.
Thanks a lot! lately I have been looking for a processor that could meet all of my needs. Having everything at the reach of a button is my ideal processor. Helix seems to be it. I am in the dilemma of investing in fractal ax8 or Helix. I don't want to make a bad decision! Thanks for your great videos!
The snapshot mode is so cool basically you have presets inside a preset , esp if you have a setup of a amp and cab you really like the over all sound of and just need to manipulate that sound to the parts of a song or songs your playing quickly or vice versa a group of effects that you want to apply to a clean amp and a heavy amp , just so versitle with one click
Awesome video series on Helix. I'm going to use snapshots to have a clean chorus, OD rhythm w and wo flange and a lead snapshot. Then set up a set list for the songs our band does so I have what I want for each part of each song with one footswitch stomp.
I use helix LT with four amp presets top (fs2-fs5) and four snapshots lower (fs8-fs11) on bottom, usually a clean, driven, distorted and lead snapshot. the mode button to enter each shot and treat them like a peddle board effects to bypass as required. Discarding to return to original snapshot on exit. Good video it takes some time to get used to the unit wish I'd found your channel two year ago Hx edit helps as well.
Great video man. I don't own a Helix but I wanted to see what snapshots were. Pretty much what I thought they were. Really great feature. I have a Ampero 2 Stomp right now which I absolutely love because of it's small size and ease to travel with, but it doesn't have snapshots. Apparently they plan to implement snapshots in future updates but I don't have my hopes up. It has a "ctrl" feature which turns blocks on/off with the press of a button, but it does not change parameters. And there isn't a 'ctrl 1 ctrl 2 etc' it only has one per patch. I played a gig this weekend and a band mate of mine had the tiny x vive in ear system. I showed him your channel and told him I just saw a video on that unit a few days ago. Keep up the great work cheers!
Really helpful video Scott! Thank you. Do you typically make presets for each individual song in a setlist? I just bought a helix, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to program this for live shows. Cheers!
I often do that for my original music, but for my cover gigs I usually just have a few “main” presets and a few main snapshots like clean, OD, distortion, fx, lead, etc
my big aha with snapshot was changing gain and volume on the amp. then aha aha when i put a second amp for cleans on the top row and dirty on the bottom row. clean snap uses a placated clean and the rest use the placated dirty
Cant say I understood that but I saw that every time you hit a different switch it still stayed in bank 2A. The way I'm doing it would have switched the bank. Subbed for sure. I need to learn this thing right.
I know I'm late to this video :-) but it may be useful to point out that the biggest difference between snapshots and simply changing patches is speed - snapshots change instantly, with no interruption to the signal path; whereas changing a patch causes a small but noticable pause in audio. Therefore if you're changing tones mid-song, snapshots are the way to go! The down-side is that snapshots can't change models (eg. Soldano to Marshall in the amp block) - it can only change settings of the already loaded models. That's the trade-off between snapshots and patches (it's changing models that causes the audio pause).
Incredible. This is the first time I saw someone properly explain the parmater changes by pressing in the knobs.
Hands down, you have the best Line 6 Helix instruction videos on TH-cam, perhaps the entire internet even! Thank you for another great Helix video Scott!
Thank you 🤘🤘glad to help :)

Thank you 😊
Had the Helix for years but never bothered with snapshots. This is a game changer, thanks!
Yeah it took me years to start using them. They definitely are game changers!
Yes, I have just recently gone down the rabbit hole that is Helix. Very helpful, thanks!
Glad it helped!
Thanks Scott going back to using my Helix now you have explained everything so clearly.
Thanks so much, the best info I have seen
Thanks!
I love how you explain the Helix in your videos so simply AND include chapters. It's also great to see you work on the actual board instead of HX Edit. Thanks! And yeah I hardly use hx edit. I like being able to edit it on the fly if I need to at a rehearsal or show or load in and stuff like that.

All sorted now Scott, I'm loving the Helix and both of your tutorials really helped me get my head around how to use it.
Great to hear!
Scott, you have explained how to use and setup Snapshots perfectly. I hadn't started learning how to use Snapshots until today. I was worried that I would mess all my User Created Presets but you laid it out so well. Thank you so much.
Thanks! Glad it helped!
This might be the single most useful helix video. Thank you!
Glad you think so!
Best helix video yet
Thanks!
Great tutorial thank you. Looking forward to trying this out when my helix arrives
Most guys complicate the hell out of this, you are excellent. Thanks man...
🤘🤘🤘
Thank You! Just bought my Helix. Had the HX Effects pedal for 3 years but never learned to use Snapshots. Your tutorials are very clear and thorough.
Glad to help!

Super helpful. Clear and concise explanation. Appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
Your HX and backing tracks stuff are the best out there. Much appreciated!

Yup! 10 footswitches is the way to go 🤘🤘
Right now I have an issue. I can’t get back to mode button. Stuck on preset/snap. 🙄
Awesome video. Very helpful thank you!

Yup that’s true, although there is “preset spillover” in order to compensate for that if you do need to fix that audio problem in preset mode.
Fantastic Bro...!!!
Thank you!
