I love my DNA. 4.5x4.5x4 2ls
Just got the DNA and I love it. I've never been able to throw big solid asyms, but this cover is very versatile. I can throw it on the fresh and on 1 day old trashed lanes.(Luke what is this magic cover stock???) Crushes the pins too. Finally, I've got a big solid asym that I match up with.
I definitely see your confusion/indecisiveness in the video. Nice video by the way. The DNA looked better, went through the pins better when you were farther left. (Love my DNA) The Clone looked better when you were a little farther right/up the track area. Like you said, these two look fairly similar, I would have a hard time suggesting the Clone to customers that already have the DNA. I don't sell tons of big balls from any brand, my center is on the dry side. Shiny DNA is money, was thinking about shining my DNA and drilling a second one with a stronger layout and keeping it dullish. Good Work Luke, keep it coming, love your vids.
I'm starting to see more DNAs in leagues this summer, especially the better bowlers. I think the word is getting out on this ball. Nobody seemed to be throwing it this past PBA tour season but I think the league bowlers are starting to take notice. Seems most people were expecting it to be super strong, like the Gem. While the stats of the DNA may line up with the Gem along with "Storm's strongest cover ever" tag, the reaction is quite different. To me Gem is like PhazeII+ but not quite PhazeII on steroids.
I think the DNA is great. I watched enough of the reviews before I picked one up, which I did on launch day., to know that it was more a continuous ball than a heavy hook monster. I never got on well with the PhazeII. I throw it hard from the left side between 5-10 and sometimes swing it out, I look for that extra asym oomph as it gets revved up that doesn't quite happen with the PhazeII. DNA is pretty versatile, I can stay with it all night with small adjustments. I usually hit it with 2000 before a session but if I use a fresh pad, it may be a bit too early. Sometimes I let it lane shine a bit and it looks really good like that also.
I think the PBA guys wouldn't see much of a use for it though. If they want something super strong and early, seems like Gem is the choice. Then use something much cleaner when they swing it out, DNA doesn't quite. Who knows what happens next season with the urethane ban.
I’ve seen a few dna here in AZ. Both my teammate and I have one and for me the dna hooks 5 boards less than my hustle camo so I use it when there’s carry down during league.
Well, the DNA is a really strong ball, and like I said in the video, hook doesn't equal backend, so if your Camo is "outhooking" it, what that really means is that the lanes are just way too dry for the DNA.
HOWEVER, our DNA's both barely wrinkled out of the box, and I've had to reset the surface on nearly every ball I've drilled in the last year, so I'd give it a resurface first and see if that does the trick.
I haven’t thrown it on anything other than house at this point but I have how ever changed the surface a few times and for me 4000 with some lane shine shown me the best results.
Just got a dna for 60 bucks from someone. Ball doesnt even have 5 games on it and its only finger pitch plugged. Looking forward to throwing it
Random question but did you ever end up drilling a sun storm? I know you liked the spec cover on the pro motion so was curious if you tried that one.
Not yet but I do have one to drill. I still have plenty of Pro Motions though, so I'm not in any real rush to drill one
@@LukeRosdahl How much for one of those Pro-Motions? :D Best ball I have ever thrown and I can't find a new one to save my life.
I've already let too many of them go, sorry! Hopefully they'll come out with something that's a near replacement eventually . . I know they aren't making any more SPEC balls, but hopefully they'll figure something else out that's similar.
What are your thoughts on the DNA vs the Summit? I noticed you compared the DNA to a Phase 2 in your video and I've heard others compare the summit to the Phase 2. I'm just getting back into bowling and I'm working towards being more competitive and building my first arsenal.
Thanks for the great videos I really appreciate your insight in answering the questions some of the others speak about but don't explain what those things mean.
Different feels, the Summit is earlier, doesn't rev as much, definitely heavier rolling. They're somewhat on top of each other as far as hook potentials go, but they're fairly different in how they do what they do.
I’ve been bowling a bunch of local sweeper tournaments lately and have yet to see a single DNA. Gem, reality and eternity seem to dominate the asym’s still from SPI
Yeah I've seen exactly one out in the wild. Not even the staffers are using them and that just blows my mind.
Thanks as always, Luke. I still have an original UFO solid, but it tended to burn up on fresh league, and even when I took the surface up to 3000 polished. How much of an upgrade would the Clone be, and is the new Opti-Trax cover cleaner than the original Micro-Trax S-20?
I'm not sure it'd necessarily be an upgrade, but MicroTrax in general is tons stronger than OptiTrax. MT is basically Roto's version of Storm's NRG-2, which is a stronger version of their NRG formula from the PhysiX. OptiTrax is marginally stronger than R2S, so there's just miles and miles between them in terms of cover traction.
I got to roll the DNA at a demo it’s a decent ball the only thing I seen with it was it was using up to much energy early an rolling out on me
Yeah I mean it's a super strong ball, it needs oil.
The DNA is such a great ball, yet so few people seem to know about it, and less even throw it. I only know of one guy that throws it at our center, and that was only because I recommended it to him. But I'll see tons of gems out there. Of course, most of them are burning up before the ball even hits the tracers.
Over the summer that's exactly what I told a guy in league that just bought a DNA. He was like "this ball sucks, it doesn't hook" in a house that's insanely wet/dry and he's trying to pipe it up the boards. I got him to move in with it and he got it to shape. But, honestly, I wouldn't use a DNA on a house shot, the ball is a sport shot killer though!
Any thoughts on polishing the DNA as I see the Clone is a polished Solid?
I actually compared them polished in this video, that's how I run my DNA since it's so strong. Surface makes it a little too early and slow for me, so I think it works really well, and in the shiny comparison, the DNA is clearly the stronger ball.
I'm actually in the process of trading my NiB DNA for a Clone when it comes out. Not sure if that's a trade up or down, but my wife really misses her UFO, and I don't need anything incredibly strong anymore for league, so...even Steven 😅
The clone isn't a ufo replacement
Luke, can you tell me the process to resfresh my Clone back to out-of-box finish? Thank you.
The reacta gloss finish process is a little different, I think it's 500-1000-2000-4000 then polish. I wouldn't recommend doing that though, I'd just go 1000-step 2, or rough edge if no step 2 is available, or brunswick crown compound if neither of those are available.
Thank you. Aporeciate your expertise.
DNA was a POS for me. Hook/stop across different houses. Clone is hit/miss but I find it useful when I need length but with a rapid but controllable recovery (have a 289 on mine with box finish Played tight on an over/under house shot). Sending the DNA wide = washout where the Clone just goes sideways so you do have to be careful with it. Waiting to use it on a local house that is notorious for burning out by end of first game to see how well the "weakness" of the cover allows me to stay in the ball.
DNA is mega ultra strong, so it's not going to be in play for the vast majority of people on the vast majority of conditions. Even though like I said, I don't think the cover ended up feeling as strong as it was supposed to be, the core is a monster so unless you have OIL, it's likely to be hook/stop. I don't see any condition the Clone goes sideways on though lol, I have seen it be pretty sharp for Hutch from the Hype too, but ours are veeery early and slow.
@@LukeRosdahl Heh. I get that a lot (I've never seen ... ) and I guess it's a combination of how I throw and my area's house shots. I work at one house I bowl at and I know we use a "modified" High Street where volume has been added to the middle to "help it not wear down too fast". This causes what I describe. I use a 55x4.5x30 layout so I didn't expect Clone to jump as much as it did.
@@jefferydaniels6717 For me the DNA is great. I'm speed dominant and I play straighter, and my League house oil pattern is really tight. It's hard for me to slow the ball down, so the DNA never seems to lose energy and roll out on me. Hits hard like it's supposed to. It's perfect for the specific way I throw it, and where I throw it.
Hey Luke which might be better for a low rev stroker on a house shot?
Honestly, neither. I think you probably need something with a little more shape that won't be so early. I'd take a look at a Reality or an Absolute depending on how strong you want the ball. Reality will be the strongest, like the DNA and Clone but with more shape, and the Absolute will be cleaner up front and sharper down lane.
I've got an Alpha Crux that has been my go-to guessing you'd suggest sticking with that?
Actually yeah, if that's working fine, that's perfect.
Luke’ I know you don’t have time for this’ but all these balls coming out, and I love this new Roto grip Clone is very strong’ my last PhisX is getting games on it and I’m trying to think whats going to replace my PHISIX, infinity, Gem, so I saw your show on the new Zen U (801) you know since I’ve met you my style has changed to exactly your style (shoes) everything else was already there for me) so I’ve been doing really good solid 211 avg, Clone would be our 5x3-1/2x3-1/2 right? Please let me know about the next tournament ball or a 1st game league ball. Glad I’m a lefty. Ty
I can buy 3 balls this month Luke
The Clone isn't a PhysiX replacement by a long shot, that'd be more the Eternity from Global. The Gem is still in production so you could just get another one of those, and the Infinite PhysiX will be replaced by the Virtual Energy Blackout.
Also, we have all the information for buying jerseys and shirts from our show, plus our email address in the description on every show.
I have yet to see a single person throw a DNA. It’s not bad, in my opinion, just not popular where I am.
I was going to get a DNA but the absolute rolled way better for me
Someone in my league has a DNA, but has not thrown it at all on the house shot. No need for anything stronger than a Phaze 2. I am excited to use the Duo in league this season
To me, the Clone was too clean.
That's why I kept saying the shine needed to come off, it was awful out of the box.
Where is James? :(
James didn't want a Clone, so of course he won't be in this one, but he'll be in the DNA report card video.
Wasn't a fan of the Clone. 🤔
