He had to because she was reading from cue cards the lawyers wrote amd trying to make it look natural by moving her head and hands a lot. Going slowly and talking slowly helps make the cue card reading more natural. The lawyers clearly had her practice reading the cards and attempting to make it look natural by not keeping her eyes on the card. This was very well rehearsed. Unfortunately she didn’t memorize all the points she had to make so this is way way more obvious

HE even brought his rubics cube to try to get into the GUINESS world of records. The pain in Ms. Dawood's voice is heartbreaking. My condolences to her and all the relatives of the victims. I agree that the presence onboard of the CEO and the Titanic expert might have easily misled the other passengers, but this enterprise was all about money and showing it off to the rest of the world. That should have been a red flat per se. Also, in the case of planes, aircraft are certified, tested, checked before each flight, unlike the vehicle used in this irresponsible trip. Sad. Five lives lost, a young boy, who could have been the son/nephew/grandson of many of us, gone too soon. A terrible tragedy and a lesson for all of us.

The "designer" was controversial but evidently, they thought it would work out. They seemed to be going down, really fast as it has been observed......I wonder why, they were sinking so fast ? When it was decided, they should go back up, the sub was not really responding but giving signals of issues with the sub itself. ...making cracking noises......Very scary. They knew they had problems but they never ran out of air......when the implosion occurred, it was fast and furious.. Air never seemed to have been a problem, but the structure of the sub, was. That's what we could figure out, hearing the conversation between the sub and the mother ship. They did not suffer. That is a consolation.

When you take a commercial flight the first thing they do is give you instructions on what to do in the event of a emergency, they have seatbelts and air bags that drop down, they have emergency doors, ramps, and pilots who have communication with the tower. They have quick decisions to make...they can attempt to land it safely. And even if it does crash you still have the possibility you could survive. All options of safety have been considered. But this sub had zero safety features...locked in, no way to be rescued, no communication other then text message, and only 24 hours of oxygen. If anything goes wrong your dead... it's a death trap. Absolutely not safe for "tourism".

Well, what gave him credibility were these two passengers who were experts in the field, including subs. These 2 guys validated the trip. Surprised they did not look deeper into the structure of that sub. Many were doubtful, it could stay intact, for very long and they were right. The destructive process was already in the making.....and descending pretty fast may have exacerbated the problem. I think it is a study in the making. How many trips could it make before it blew up ? Structure fatigue ? something like that.

The mother and her daughter were on the mother ship, on the surface, They were communicating with them, until it stopped. When it stopped, evidently the sub blew up, but the media was told, they could be trapped and running out of air. It was not the case. They did not run out of air, they just imploded. The sub blew up when the communication stopped, so they did not suffer and that is a consolation. Better be dead than slowly suffocating. Asking your child to take such an amount of risk is not fair, in my opinion. Taking your child to the frontiers of what is possible in a non-certified craft, with people who view risk differently, is not responsible parenting. It’s tough though, because we are pretty used to signing waivers regarding potential death, knowing a company is also still required to follow certain safety requirements and the waiver can be disregarded in the event of negligence.
When I go rock climbing at an indoor gym, even field hockey camp, a trampoline park or my daughter’s water camp at the YMCA….. all are low risk activities, yet death is mentioned in the waiver. I feel almost like any waiver you sign for sports activities or adventure activities includes this. It’s ridiculous because it makes it quite difficult to assess actual risk. The research needs to be done independently.
This looks like a kind family and I’m so sorry this happened to them. I hope speaking out helps this family member know that her loved ones were seen for their positive traits. Loving family, seeking adventure.

Apologies for the confusion. Let's revise the poem to reflect the correct scenario:
In the realm of the ocean's deep embrace,
A submersible tale took its place,
    Stockton Rush, an arrogant soul,
With dreams of grandeur, he took control.
    Implosion loomed, a haunting fear,
As he dismissed, he wouldn't hear,
Suleman Dawood, a mind so keen,
A Rubik's solver, at age nineteen.
A trip of dreams, father and son,
Together they'd face what's to be done,
Shahzada, the father, wise and strong,
With Suleman, his kin, he'd belong.
On OceanGate sub, they took their ride,
    Exploring depths, side by side.
Father and son, a bond so tight,
    Adventurers sharing the same light.
Amidst the tension, the vessel's plight,
    Suleman solved, his colors bright.
In depths unknown, he found his grace,
    Navigating each twist and space.
Their journey a testament to love,
As they delved the seas above,
    The ocean's secrets they'd unveil,
    Together, their spirits would sail.
In the heart of darkness, where mysteries dwell,
Their courage and love, they'd forever tell.
Though implosion threatened, their spirits stood,
    An unbreakable bond, a brotherhood.
For in the depths, they found their role,
The father, son, and young Suleman's soul.
So let us honor this family's trip,
    Their heroism, a lasting grip.
In unity and love, they fought,
    Explorers true, their legacy sought.
Father and son, a journey done,
Their hearts forever intertwined as one.

There is a book by Gavin de Becker called 'The Gift of Fear' which talks about your intuition and sensing danger. Suleman Dawood sensed this was a very dangerous adventure and did not want to go. He was only 19 yrs but had more sense than his 48 yr old father, Shahzada Dawood who wanted to 'bond' with his son on Father's Day with this wild adventure. However, Dawood Sr did not investigate the safety of this sub before putting his precious child in it. For all his billionaire money making savvy, he foolishly trusted a half baked vessel and put his kid in it. This was extremely foolish. He took his son away from his mother and sister and both died.
The sub Titan was janky engineering. At first we all thought this kind of craft was experimental and in the interest of science this was an unfortunate incident. Then after hearing James Cameron and Bob Ballard talk about descending down 7 miles in a safe sub, we all realized that the issue was not some freak accident but a very poor design and build for this to implode at 2.5 miles depth. There were multiple design flaws and we learn with increasing anger that Stockton Rush knew and ignored the advice and warnings given him.
The hull was made of laminated carbon fiber strands and epoxy glued to the Titanium end caps. The acrylic window was rated for 4,250 ft depth, and they went further to 13,200 ft. The hull was a barrel design not spherical. It was not tested out and not certified. Rush cut corners and paid with 5 lives. Carbon fiber shatters under compression load, metal bends.
This sub had done many dives so there was stress fatigue on those laminated materials, epoxy glue, barrel design, and acrylic porthole.
The year before, OceanGate executives had fired their director of marine operations, David Lochridge, after disagreeing with his demand for more rigorous safety checks on the submersible, including 'testing to prove its integrity'. A former Royal Navy marine engineer and ship's diver (in the UK), he was described by OceanGate as an 'expert in the field of submarine operations and rescue'. Lochridge wanted the company to carry out a scan of Titan's hull to 'detect potential flaws' rather than 'relying on acoustic monitoring' - which would only detect an issue 'milliseconds before an implosion'. He had several meetings in 2018 'regarding the quality control and safety of the Titan, particularly OceanGate's refusal to conduct critical, non-destructive testing of the experimental design of the hull'. During one meeting he discovered that the acrylic window was only built to a certified pressure of 4,250 feet (1,300 meters) - despite OceanGate intending to take passengers down to nearly 13,000 feet (4,000 meters). Lochridge also 'strongly encouraged that OceanGate utilize a classification agency, such as the American Bureau of Shipping, to inspect and certify the Titan'. OceanGate refused both requests, and stated it was unwilling to pay for a classification agency to inspect its experimental design. The pressure exerted on the vessel at 4000 meters is 6000 psi or 2 tons.
This billionaire Dawood Sr, spends half a million on a joy ride. He does not do his homework that all explorers must do. The homework of investigating the vessel, knowing what is involved. He puts his son's life in danger and essentially kills him. They signed a lot of waivers so Shahzada knew what he was doing. To call him a hero for not doing his homework and dragging his son into this unsafe vessel is lunacy. This is not heroic work. This is the dumbest thing a person can do. His sister going on TV and being melodramatic and acting like a tragic heroine is not going to change the fact that you have a spoiled rich man who took his spoiled rich kid, to a Disneyland type adventure to see the Titanic. He's never done any exploring, has no clue about dangerous situations and wanted a joy ride. He paid half a million which could have been put to much better use in poverty stricken Pakistan. He was selfish and spoiled and the only reason that Stockton Rush took these two is to make money for profit. They served no other purpose for Rush.
So stop deifying these two lost men, as they tend to do in India and Pakistan, and be realistic. They are gone. They did not suffer. It could have been much worse if they ran out of air and died in agony. They felt nothing. They vaporized in nano seconds. If I had to die, this would be my choice. Dawood Sr knew the risks. So did you. You did not stop your nephew from going. Blame yourself, not anyone else. When you want to play with the big boys, you need to grow up and be a big boy. Stop whining. The real heroes are the rescuers who risked their lives to fish out the salvage from 2.5 miles deep and spent tired hours looking for them in an ocean area the size of Connecticut, on the surface, mid ocean depth and the bottom - 3 surfaces.
Furthermore, the rescue operation cost millions that we taxpayers paid for. Are you going to reimburse us for the money we spent cleaning up the debris and searching for them? You should hang your head in shame for putting the world thru this expense at a time of recession, and better uses for this money. If you truly feel sorry for this mishap, pay back the US govt for searching for your family members in International waters where they did not have to go. France sent to ROVs to look for them and found the craft. Who is going to pay for this? We could have done so much good with this money for the rescue and the price of tickets. A ridiculous waste of time and money wasted on billionaires. We taxpayers paid for all this. Shameful.

Chris- read this and tell me what you think, if you have the time.
If the submersible did implode at or near the bottom, and everything and everyone was pulverised by the pressure in a millisecond, then it truly is a bizzare circumstance for the men in the sub.
Its a bizarre situation because these people who were very interested in the Titanic, and who, in previous years were fascinated with its fate, and then later the discovery of the wreck and debris field are now in fact part of that wreck and debris field.
To have your actual physical being that enjoyed the books, movies and documentaries about the Titanic instantaneously be made part of that actual frozen landscape on a molecular level is nightmarish.
