So if you follow the directions exactly as he says, it will work. I didn't use a heat gun the first time and used an adhesive promoter and then added a clear coat of fabric paint. They started to crack and turn yellow. Second set, I did exactly as the video and so far so good. I'm doing a third set now. I would like to try with Hyperdip instead of plastidip since it has more elasticity but I guess that'll be on the 4th set. Do not clear coat.
Now I can turn my landing gear tires into white walls.

Dude, you’re the man. Been looking for cheap ass whitewalls over 1 inch and nothing and then there are these gimmick whitewall add ons that I have heard and can just tell are junk. I did this for low pressure minibike tires and it’s worked out great and looks great too.
I preferred finishing with 220 grit on an orbital sander. I also baked the paint for a day under a heat lamp.

really depends on how well you prep it and what kind of environment you live in. I live where it snows in the winter and hot in the summer, but I've had great success! check out the follow-up video on my channel. thanks for watching!
Thanks for the update video. Going to do white walls on my budget fat tire scooter and now i know. Forums are full of dudes way over doing it with subpar results even still. I wont be bummed if it yellows in 3 years like this ha
FYI a narrow white wall like you have can just be ground back to a wide whitewall

So what exactly is a super dull flat grinding disc? Is it a certain grit number or is it just one that's already worn down a lot?

you can try it... but it may move around on you. the air and the rim provide the resistance to your grinder... also, to get a smooth surface, it's best to hold the grinder still and rotate the tire.

Help!!! I'm doing this to my golf cart tires. I have two old tires on front and two new tires on back. The front tires turned out wonderful! But, when I painted the first of the two back tires, the white plastidip and the fabric paint turned yellow on the tire. I put several coats of both, but still it's an off white or yellow looking. Nothing like the stark white as the front tires. My assumption is that the material is different, but it seems after several coats It would turn white like the others. I'm so confused and frustrated. Any insight on this?
hmmm that is strange... I've never had that problem. could be contamination? or rubber composition of the newer tires? I know the plasti-dip will turn yellow, but the vinyl fabric paint will not... sorry I couldn't be of more help
how long does it last? do you encounter any cracking? how about yellowing?
@Frankie Boy thanks for watching!! as long as you keep it SUUUPER clean and heat it when you're applying the paint, it should last for the life of the tire. I did have one tire start to crack - I think it wasn't heated well enough - but the rest of the tires look like the day I first painted them a few years ago. the vinyl fabric paint won't yellow, but the PlastiDip will. a few top coats of the fabric paint will be enough to keep it from yellowing... thanks again for watching!

Tires with a thin whitewall or even ones with raised white letters have a white layer that can be exposed. I know this because a doofus I went to votech with got overly ambitious with a high speed buffer and took it to his tire. It didnt shin but it did reveal a hidden white layer. But using paint is also a great alternative since coker tires are ridiculously expensive
Taking off too much material is dangerous
@Mike's Aquatics agreed but the outer layers especially a white one are purely cosmetic

any cleaner degreaser would work.

@TylerDylan21 thanks for watching! it holds up really well! the key is to be patient - keep it CLEAN and make sure to give it plenty of tooth prior to painting and heat during painting. I'll post a follow up video soon...

What temperature was the heat gun?
not sure the exact temperature, but it was on the high setting... just keep it moving so you don't OVER heat it. it should leave the tire warm to the touch. not hot almost melting... hope that helps

doesnt the paint over spray stick to the car too?, your black car will get white freckles.
When they get dirty how do you clean them without removing the paint?
some regular dish soap and warm water. car wash might work as well. probably nothing with chemicals, although the paint does stay on really well if done correctly.

Where do you find the paint? What brand?
at 5:45 on the video you'll see the paint I use... the first layer is PLASTI-DIP from Performix, the second layer is VINYL AND FABRIC PAINT from Dupli-Color. you should be able to find it at any automotive or hardware store, or online. Thanks for watching!!!!

Anyone can slap any paint on tires, but the question is how does it hold up? It cracked and got darker in time with driving, didn’t it?
nope, not if you use the paint and the method I detailed in this video. I've done several tires over the years. they stay WHITE and the paint outlasts the tires... probably because of all the burnouts, but still... should the white wall part be an bit narrower ?
There used to be a place here that would grind a bit of the sidewall off of narrow whitewall tires exposing the white rubber underneath for folks who wanted wide whites. Here's a video of a guy doing it at home. th-cam.com/video/yXm0ZTxRrTU/w-d-xo.html
How long did it take you to get all the white overspray off the trucks black paint. You should have masked that whole fender around the wheel well. Smh

9:00 "...this overspray will come off..." how dumb. Cover it before you paint!
The way to get either wheel to spin is to only lift one at a time and let the diff do the work as it will only spin the wheel that is off the ground
