I did not expect this dude with a wall of jrpg items to be this jacked
Contrary to popular belief, not all JRPG fans are 100lb glasses wearing introverts.
Thirsty 😋
Four monks, no armor, no weapons. Pure Chad mode, just have them chugging potions aka protein shakes
Such a Chad......party 😂
@Kieran and Jade also turn of random encounters and use 1/4 exp + gil. If a member dies you can't revive. Because it's a mega Chad team, we have to allow bosses to throw the first punch. I appreciate this may still be to easy for some players, so maybe blindfold yourself whilst playing.
... also, can't run from encounters or dungeons, because that's cowardly. Time for Giga-chad mode.
...also the only command you are allowed to use is attack, no items, no healing or magic, no revives, no saving, no sleeping at INN, heck no sleep IRL.
No family or friends for support.
This is TERRA-CHAD MODE!
dont know if its better in pixel remaster but lets just say the start is very hard at the beginning with only doing 1 - 2 dmg per attack
As someone who was born after the nes era, I sometimes have a hard time going back and playing games from that time, but FF 1 still holds up and is a fun time and Im excited to try the PR and experience it with some quality of life improvements
Interestingly, I’m the opposite. I was born in 1999, but I have a much simpler time getting absorbed in games from before my time. Almost Anything after that requires too much homework for me at times, most games from my time that I like are games I bothered to pour some time into. But that’s besides the point.
All the footage I saw of these remasters was on my phone, and I gotta be honest, I was pretty lukewarm on them, but my physical copy came in the other day and seeing it blown up on my TV with quality sound I have to say, these versions are a lot better than I thought. Seeing them on phones doesn’t do them justice.
I'd definitely appreciate hearing your starter tips for other classic FFs or other classic JRPGs in general, you are a wise master of the genre
Yaaasss! Do all the pixel remasters.
Just beat this as a pallet cleanser between Zero and Azure. Placed the boost at half for exp and gil. Not a bad challenge
Can't wait to see the video for 6. There are so many changes that are for the better imo
Super appreciate these tips. I cant wait to jump into the pixel remaster!
Nothing beats the moment when the weapons make your black belts weaker at a point
Worse DPS with Iron Nunchucks and Iron Staff/Crosier/Tetsubo by the time you can buy them regardless, because his Accuracy is just almost always so much worse with these weapons than unarmed. Cornerian wooden nunchucks are mostly a wash for the first couple levels and I never buy them.
Thanks for this! It's been at least 30 years since I played this and boy have games evolved
Awesome video and this definitely helped out A LOT! I recently bought the Pixel remaster for mobile.
Thank you so much! I just started FF1 (my first FF game) and I admit I'm a bit lost.
That was a nice refresher course! I played the original back in the day when it was the only Final Fantasy out. I recently went back and played the first and second ones on PSP and I had forgotten how far we’ve come with RPGs. It was absolutely brutal! I couldn’t even remember where to revive a character, I had to look it up on the Internet. Again, very nice and thank you. I’m looking forward to going through it again when I get my physical copy of the pixel remasters from Play-Asia
Every time a DavidVinc video posts, I pull it up, Like it, then watch. I've never regretted it either. Cheers to all who read this |-)
Absolutely SHREDDED 💪🏽💪🏽💯💯
You did a great job. Just bought ff1 on my phone and my ps5 and man it has been a hot minute since I played this game but I can see why it is a masterpiece ❤
when’s the workout guide coming out??
This is a great video and very helpful to newcomers I'm sure! It made me want to go back and play this one again on the NES. I imagine these old school rpgs could be super frustrating and confusing to newcomers. I think you should keep going with these videos. We have to keep the history alive and accessible!
one thing for me rn is definitely the targeting system because im just starting the game but that ohter enemies arent auto targeted when the original target dies
and each lvl up so far feels very important in terms of survivability so far
Thanks for this!! I've played this first one but never finished. I'm about to start a playthrough on my channel, so thanks for the refresher. I've played 7-12, IX I think was my favorite.
Background is sick. I love this video.
I started with 7, I backtracked to play 5 & 6 on PS1 Anthology. But never played the first 4. This is very helpful! Thank you, always love your videos!
Played it on the NES when it was released in 87 and I loved every minute of the game. The manual that came with was excellent :)
very helpful video. i just finished the marsh temple. what a nightmare! so much poison!
Great video! I was so lost as it’s my first time playing FF1
Glad I could help!
Yes! Do videos for the other pixel remasters too!!
The timing of your videois on point for me. This is the next game I have lined up once I finish Trails to Azure.
I just finished FF1 Pixel Remaster last night, and would absolutely love a video like this for FF2, which I'll be playing next!
I've never finished FF1 before, despite starting it a number of times over the years, but hopefully the Pixel Remaster will be the one I'll stick it out through.
I'd love more videos on the PR games :D
sameee but i finally did it lol n i also had the problem w 4 and 5 i need to complete those soon
I just picked them up a couple of weeks ago. I played the first couple at launch because I'm older than dirt. I had forgotten how fun they were. Definitely need videos across the entire remaster series.
My party is always Fighter, Red Mage, Black Mage and White Mage. I've been on and off with this game for over 20 years and it's my favorite.
I'm gonna try this line-up next; sounds fun. My last line-up was Monk, Thief, White Mage and Black Mage. The Fighter is a big advantage because you get a lot of gear in-game.
@@Deadbolt420 Having a secondary healer, mage and attacker is always good and unlike Ninja gets a lot of bang for your buck. Sure, not the MOST damage or anything but what if your White Mage/Wizard dies? That Knight can't revive via Raise, afaik. And Pheonix Downs can get costly after 10 if you're also gearing up at the latest town.
@@Deadbolt420 also, if you have played Advanced Wars 1, you know why having no weakness is a good thing.
@@redmagelala Only played AW 2 and AW Dark Conflict/Days of Ruin; like them a lot especially Dark Conflict but those games still kick my butt in the later levels.
@@Deadbolt420 Andy's strength is that he has no weakness, while everyone else has huge strength but huge weaknesses. I prefer reliable versatility over specialization.
Will you be doing this type of video for each pixel remastered game?? Id love that!
Great video! I can't wait to give this one a go since I loved Dragon Quest 1 so much! I feel terrible for never having played the original FF, but I will try and do it soon!
4:50 I recall the Nintendo Power guide for this game saying to bring 99 Heal potions to the Marsh Cave.
Its brutal but you really need 99 ANTIDOTES for the Marsh cave instead that's why its a good idea to turn off ALL encounters after you kill all the monster book entries that show up in Marsh Cave at least ONCE.
@@veghesther3204 You're right. Maybe it was 99 Heal and also 99 Pure Potions (the NES version Antidotes)
The quality of life differences in the later versions of FF1 are amazing. I could never go back to the archaic designs of the original.
No enemy auto targeting.
Forced to buy 1 potion at a time.
Limited save slots.
Damn grind fest.
That slow walk speed.
Etc...
I kind of wanna do a challenge when I do 1. Maybe an all white mage challenge
Great suggestions for a newbie!!! I love this game and experimenting with various class compositions.
I started the ps1 version about a year and a half ago but stopped at the Earth Cave iirc. I'll have to go back to it sometime along with other FF games and DQ games.
Love the screenshots from the original manual, I still have mine too
This is the FF game I cut my teeth on. My brother bought an NES with his first paycheck in 1990. We then rented this game from Blockbuster. When we got back home, the strategy guide from Nintendo Power was in the mailbox. I still have the guide and the NES game we bought the following day.
What a fantastic game! It's barely hyperbole to say that this and Dragon Quest changed my life. I still run through it via emulation or my PSP every other year.
Waiting for my copy in the mail. Looking forward to playing through 1-6 for the first time.
I used to rent FF1 in my childhood back in the 80s from a local mom and pop VHS store in NY. I remember the first night I had it, my parents brought me along with them to my aunts house and I read the manual at my aunts and also on the car trip. I played it that night and it was the first game I lost sleep on too lol. I remember looking outside while lost deep into the gameplay and noticed that the sun was rising lol. I've beaten the NES game somewhere around 5 times, the PS1 port once, and going through it again with Pixel Remaster! I was going through the PSP port before I bought the Pixel Remaster bundle, and I'll be returning to finish that version too someday. It's such a classic! I hope the game gets remade one day like FF7. FF6 needs a remake too! Hell, remake all of them!
Despite playing games since the eighties, FF pixel remake was my first game in the series. I had an absolute blast with it, despite not realising I could change the party so went with the default Warrior, thief, black and white mages. They worked fine and I only had a couple of game overs to random creatures in the world. I lost the thief and black mage in the final fight but the white mage and Warrior got me over the line, that girl can really bring the heals. I loved being able to switch encounters on and off so I could choose whether to explore or grind at any point.
I have FFXVI on pre-order, it's basically the same right? ... RIGHT? 😄
Some tips:
After got nitro powder go to crescent lake there buy all equipment and magic, and grind your level till30 after that you can cakewalk till you got airship
When I first picked up the pixel remaster on Steam a few years ago I decided to do a run of Fighter, Thief, Black Belt and Red Mage. Biggest issue was access to multi-target healing spells was not available because it was White mage only. Now I am playing it on the Switch with Thief, Black Belt, White Mage, Black Mage.
I feel like picking Black Belt and Red Mage is a must once I learned of the broken combo of having Red cast Quick on BB. Bare fist attacks hit a crazy number of times and makes endgame bosses dead fast. I haven't played FF1 since being a kid on the NES. The one class I never picked was Thief/Ninja. Always wondered if they were worth using.
I just got the Pixel Remaster on Sunday and couldn't wait to play FF I. ( never played I-V ) I didn't want to exploit it too bad so I used the 4x gil with 2x exp and it plays with perfect balance if you ask me because YES things are massively expensive and the encounter rate is ultra high. I feel guilty a bit but hey imo it definitely needed this enhancement otherwise you might be doomed as some of your first fight are with 5-7 wolves at a time! lol Not to mention it's good for Daveed to kind of guide you through the first few because this kind of needs a walkthrough because they don't tell you much in where to go exactly. It's go outside, grind, go to the shrine, heres your boat, go find stuff ect lol. LOVING IT!
I'm looking up a video on FF1 classes and lol what dude is hella cut. You have a great narration voice too. Subbing for RPG goodness.
Welcome aboard!
The Thief is actually the exact same Agility as the Fighter, IIRC the Monk is identical to those two in Agility growth or slightly slower. You'd _think_ the devs would make Thieves fast, but they aren't especially.
Strongly suggested parties for a first playthrough: Fighter/Monk/WhiteMage/Black Mage, Fighter/Monk/WhiteMage/RedMage, Fighter/Thief/Monk/RedMage, and Figher/Fighter/RedMage/WhiteMage. In general, to a newbie the cheap upkeep cost of the Monk might be worth the squishiness defensively; their attack is basically like hitting with a Fighter with an up to date weapon but without having to buy one. Thief and Black Mage are two of the worse choices to have in a party if you haven't somewhat mastered the game's systems; Ninja is such a _satisfying_ upgrade that can make it worth bringing the Thief along for the ride through the Castle of Ordeals, the optimal play strategy isn't always the most _fun_ experience.
thanks i needed this
Just starting ff1... like you I played this when I was around 9 or 10... haven't played it since then... just picked up the pixel remaster
They changed the names of the classes Black Belt to Monk and Fighter to Warrior.
Just started playing this game and i love it
I’ve gotten the platinum trophies on 1, 2, 3 and 4. Working on 5 and then I’ll roll right into 6. Yeah they are older games but I’m having so much fun. I’ve played 3 and 4 remakes and 5 and 6 back in the day but this was my first time finishing 1 and 2
Your avatar is the hero of DQ3 but muscular, shirtless, and bearded?
Cool!
To quote every shonen protag with an endless appetite,"More, please."
Also, where did you find that SICK artwork for the thumbnail. Really wanna stare at the entire thing? Did you or a thumbnail artist make it? Actually, scratch that middle and last question. It was the first image on google. FIRST IMAGE. NEVER been that lucky.
Nice beginner video for newcomers!
That's a fantastic shirt!
I was actually just about to try the pixel remaster. My first final fantasy was 4 for the Nintendo DS.
Is the thief devalued in the pixel remaster because you can just turn off encounters instead of using the thief to run?
my first ff was ff8
I played the original Final Fantasy on NES when it was new. My favorite party was fighter, red mage, white mage, and black mage. I also liked:
2 fighters, white mage, black mage
2 red mages, white mage, black mage
2 fighters, black belt, and thief
So many memories...
Do you do this for all ff's? I would Like it
This game is definitely bizarre in that it gets much easier as it goes.
Once you beat Lich and get the canoe, you can make a detour to the Castle of Ordeals and get the Zeus Gauntlet and Healing Staff, pretty much ensuring your mages never have to waste turns on useless physical attacks ever again.
And once you start doing the dungeons in the northern part of the world, you start getting even more weapons and gear that you can use in battle for some pretty good crowd control, attacks, and buffs.
Warrior, Monk, Red Mage, White Mage is pretty busted.
You get a full physical damage party, 2/3 of them can heal with one specialized White Mage for full support and for those rare cases when you happen to need magic damage, the Red Mages limited Black Magics will get you through somehow.
FF1 is the Final Fantasy I've completed the most times. It's a pretty chill game.
I always go with 2 Warriors/Knights, A Red Mage/Wizard, and a White Mage/Wizard.
There was always a way I took this game. Get the ship, get Fira/FIRE2 and Diara/HRM2. Return to the peninsula north of the pirate town. The top 2 grids had much higher enemies, that those two spells can easily wipe out. Raise 10 - 20 levels in no time. Lost that one in the Pixel Remaster.......dammit.
But get through the Earth Crystal. Then go get the canoe. Now this is where I deviate. I go for the class upgrade. I get the Rat Tail, then I go after the Levistone. Once I upgrade, I hit the water level. I get the Rosetta Stone. Then I go backwards on the remaining crystals. Now this might not work for everyone out there easily. I have been playing this title since 1990 on the original (more difficult for us who used to like challenge). So I have decades of playing it over and over and over.
I never played this game, as i never owned an NES - SNES was my first system (I’m old enough, my parents were just cheap). So FF IV (II) was my first.
I didn’t play this game until last year when I played the pixel remaster on my PC. I have to say that although my expectations were low, I was VERY pleasantly surprised. It’s held up very well (although the QOL improvements in the PR version I’m sure help). It’s also pleasantly short compared to todays standards.
I’d recommend this game to any FF Fan.
Playing FF1 for the first time and I totally get why people were obsessed with this when it initially released!
Where's the best place to farm gil. I'm new to this game and have been trying to grind around the first town but the monsters aren't dropping any gil so I can't afford to heal up.
Holy crap where do I get a Final Fantasy 1 sleeveless shirt?!?!
Not gonna lie, I love that shirt David! Where’d you get it from?!
As for the pixel remasters, I’ve been solely playing ff6 so far. Trying to get Gau’s best Rage attacks. I just got Stray Cat and Aspiran. And tore up the Magitek Facility with him!
Started at 4 but am down to go back. Physical copy will show up someday, Playasia willing.
Somehow you always succeed in making games look a lot more appealing in your little guide/review/"just give it a try" videos and what better time to give it a go than with the recent release of the pixel remasters for console.
I'll probably need a walkthorugh here and there, but I'm hopeful that now (or rather once I'm done with RE4R) is the time for me to finally dive into these games.
It's called false hype
Just finished the solo white mage challenge. (No promotion to wizard). Super challenging on both nes and pr versions.
Do you have a recommended platform for the Pixel Remasters? Not sure if I should get on PC, Switch or PS4/5
Hey a true final fantasy fan can see the beauty in FFXV It was a great game
Is a fast class change still recommended with the Pixel Remaster version?
This is why we’re brothers from another mother… FF1 is the first console game I ever played (yes, even before Mario Bros). Sculpted me into the gamer I am today. Also, likely why our taste in gaming is almost identical
First run as a kid was Fighter, Fighter, Red Mage and Black Mage
This may sound weird but FF1 & 2 are my favourite FF games. FF12 is my second favourite and FF13's on third place. Please make a similar video for FF2.
Sure, I know where you're coming from.
“Have a large day”?? Is that a Nevada saying?? 😂
I remember playing the first final fantasy on nes when I was probably 5 or 6. I made it to Garland and died repeatedly. So I gave up and never really played another ff game until 7.
One thing I didn't see mentioned was if Thief was actually good or not? He was always a meme pick, and you can expect him to be dead most of the game, is that still the case? Is he at least viable now?
The craziest party I ever beat the game with was two red mages, a white mage and a black mage. Finished at somewhere around level 50 and never had my entire party wiped.
best part of FF1 was its limited inventory and tons of magical items
Thanks for posting this, friend. Actually I just beat the first game a couple of nights ago.
Just started FF2 the other night. Great story but the level up system is janky as hell. It's certainly very unique in its own way though.
Could you imagine if most games used the spell slot system instead of mana system
Imagine saying “TEET-us” instead of “T-EYE-tus” like every other human being named Titus.
Yes I need tips for 2 and 3!!
And the worst part about filling up with items in the NES original was you could only buy items one at a time.
Where did you get the shirt?
That’s old school
Have a Large day? Did I miss a new thing lol.
The pixel remaster is the best way to play FF1 for newcomers. Mainly because the bugs from the original are all fixed and the translation is better too.
I grew up on the original and while it holds a lot of nostalgia for me, the pixel remaster is a nice way to go.
100K is closer than you think 😎
I hope so!
Is the peninsula of power still in the pixel remaster? Best place to level up quickly early on.
No, they removed it. They also changed the hall of Giants slightly.
It’s gone :(
I love this kind of video, more and more please
Thanks 🎉🎉
I hope you enjoy the guide!
@ definitely helps just started my journey
Impossible mode: all red mage party (still more doable than all thief though)
nice work.
I want to apologize for barking at you regarding xenoblade 3. I hope you were still able to enjoy the game
