    Here's another tip I'd like to add, Ancient China, when you get to the training section, pick one student you wish to be the MVP and stick with that one person. Don't just instinctively give each one equal treatment as the game will pick the strongest member of the team to essentially be the main character and kill off the other two.

    These tips are honestly more applicable to the original than the remake.
    #1: Exploring is still worth your time, that hasn't changed
    #2: This is the first major change, you can actually carry over your inventory in the remake.
    #3: Still kind of applicable, but grinding to level 16 can be helpful, especially Oboro's chapter.
    #4: Still applicable, but it's not the only way. Debuffs and Stuns are way too helpful in the remake.
    #5: The hunt for sundown is honestly a bit overblown, you can get the battery, talk to sundown, go get Cube(because you will encounter sundown on the way), and on your way out encounter Sundown the last two sundown events.

    • @Sephiroth08150
      @Sephiroth08150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think they reduced Sundown to only be interacted with in the Hero's peak and lucrece castle, so it's fine to pick someone else than Sundown.

    • @WhirlyBeepBoops
      @WhirlyBeepBoops 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's
      - Twice on the mountain. Once on each screen of it.
      - Reading a sign in the Quiet Forest (main hub, if you will.)
      - The rest are in the castle. One where the path splits left and right, and the other in the bedroom you slept in as Oersted. I don't remember the order. The join prompt will then appear when you leave it.
      I have some memory of it, having done three best ending runs so far (Lei, Yuan, and Akira).
      Also, I am a big advocate for debuffing the enemy and buffing yourself - as well as giving the enemy status conditions. It's a very valid strat.

  • @rator1st
    @rator1st 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The last point is an exaggeration my friend, yes, you do have to talk to Sundown multiple times, at Hasse's hut, the ledge near the trial of Instinct, the sign on the way to Lucrece castle, the throne room, the bedroom west of the throne room, then outside the castle where he will approach you. That is 5, not 9 (at least in the remaster). The tip I would give in this case is if you want sundown in your party to the end of the run, do not switch him out as if you do, he will be at one of the random locations you talked to him and this will be a pain if you want to recruit him again.

  • @InfinityZeroEX
    @InfinityZeroEX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The Sundown recruitment is meeting with him 5 times. 9 is a lie. You just have to travel a bit to find him all 5 times. And most the time you can find him by seeing which way he left and following in pursuit. Choose the Shifu, better stats and at 16 Heavenly Peaks Descent can do work. If you picked Lei as the shifu she gets one of the best crowd clears in the game at I believe level 12.

    What was the party you ended up using for the final battle. Right now I’m using sundown, (earthen heart character) cube and pogo. Just wanted your opinion. Most of the game was pretty smooth for me and not to hard. But some of these areas in the final chapter have been hard. Specifically this trial that seems timed to get sundowns weapon, a magnum if I’m remembering right. Then a final bell rolls and I get into a boss fight I seemingly can’t win. Thinking I might have to start the chapter over from a precious save. Great video though. You are one of the few I go to for RPG advice and content.

      I think ghosts are not legally alive, but may as well not risk it; you might need more generic ghosts to grind levels, and they disappear when you beat her. Female assassins I haven't heard of, but I assume they probably do count.
      Also, remember to stay in the room when the maid gives you the sash - if you leave the room, she doesn't get to come back and give you the box.

    I caved in and bought the remake. >.> You might need to correct number 2, as my inventory did carry over to the final chapter, I was wondering why I had a ton of pretty flowers in my inventory till I realized I made a ton of them in Pogo's chapter. Also, the only chapter I really did massive grinding were Pogo's and Oboro's, more so Oboro (I didn't want to deal with the Fish boss and used the OHKO on it, which required grinding). Pogo, I was able to beat King Mammoth at level 13 first try, though I did wipe the entire area when I had Beru in my group beforehand. Also, Sundown is really easy to get, I chose Lei as my final main and I ended up recruiting him while trying to find Cube in the castle. So I say pick who you really want for your lead character.

    • @WhirlyBeepBoops
      @WhirlyBeepBoops 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will say that the EHM's have the easiest time with Sundown, as you will naturally go down the mountain anyway and find him as you go. But if you know where he is, it shouldn't be too bad with anyone; it's a lot less annoying than it used to be.

    • @starza1408
      @starza1408 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I was actually going to recruit him last when I played, because I thought you had to find him in more spots, but it seemed to be a lot less and I ended up recruiting him after getting Cube and Masaru, so I had to change my plans a bit of rotating character dungeons.
      I actually beat it a few days after this comment, and found the game overall on the moderate to easy side of difficulty, the only part that gave me real trouble was Oboro's chapter. I actually beat King Mammoth on the first try, but maybe I got lucky cause I had a nice stock of big meaty bones, which saved my butt.
      Heck, I used a full dps party in the end (Lei, Sundown, Oboro, and Pogo) and maybe used a few healing items here and there on the "final boss". So not sure if the difficulty was nerfed from the SNES version, I only watched a Let's Play of the original SNES version. I still had fun with it regardless, but honestly, it shouldn't be 40 dollars.

  • @InsertCreativeHandleHere09
    @InsertCreativeHandleHere09 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Like others have said, the hunt for Sundown is really, *really* overblown. He’s pretty easy to follow as his spots are in a logical order, and the map is pretty small.
    I personally picked Akira as my final protagonist, as he was my favourite one as a character. And he ends up actually being pretty solid with his healing and debuffs. And his level 16 ability has a chance to inflict ANY debuff or status ailment. He’s great at exploiting weaknesses too with his wide array of elements.
    Though honestly either Pogo or the Earthen Heart Master are probably the best picks. Pogo deals great damage and has high HP, and the Master is pretty strong overall and has Heavenly Peaks Descent (personally I think Lei is the best disciple).
    Just don’t pick Cube. He doesn’t level normally like the others, needing those robotic enchantment parts. So essentially, when Cube is in the party, he’s stealing EXP from a character that could be in his place. Wouldn’t grab him either until at least a few characters are level 16.
    And, again, as others have said, you do carry over all of your equipment to the final chapter no matter if it’s equipped or not. Though I’m not sure if anything equipped on characters besides the protagonists carries over. So just strip them of anything useful before they leave. Note that robotic enhancement parts don’t carry over no matter what so don’t bother saving them up, just use them on Taroimo. And I dunno about your items either. Some might carry over, some might not, or they might not at all, not sure.
    This also means it can be worth going out of your way to craft a bunch of stuff in the Near Future and Prehistory chapters to use as early equipment for the final chapter. Stuff like biker’s belts, pretty flowers, laughing masks, thump drums and fast whips. Though if you don’t want to deal with Tobei’s shit, the Near Future crafting stuff isn’t as useful as the Prehistory ones. Just make sure to grab the robot ability accessories for Cube.

    Clearly thus video is made without playing the remake. Accessories can be brought to the final chapter without being equipped. Sundown also has significant nerf in remake and has about 300 less damage in average, and his low hp stood out more in return. Lei is a much better character than him this time.

  • @daviejones8862
    @daviejones8862 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great vid, I do like the game, but time is definitely the resource it does not value one bit (like god do I hate Obomaru’s campaign and his end game dungeon…ugggh)
    As for tips: more campaign specific
    Sundown: you actually have a lot more time than you think. So go ahead and explore for all the trap parts. Note: the carrots are traps.
    Obomaru: don’t worry about the pot you can put money in, you learn those skills just by leveling, unless you’re going for a zero kill run, there’s little reason to use it, instead use the money on getting the marionette (who aids with the zero kill run and is a good distraction during one of the super bosses)
    Cube: if you’re getting chased, just duck into a room. The Chase will stop, easy peasy
    Oersted: DON’T loot the castle, just take the equipment you start with and grind a bit to get more equipment.
    2. The game stops giving orange markers at one point. You’re going to think you need to go to Archon’s Roost: DON’T…unless you are addicted to grinding. You actually need to go to Fugalia village, then go back to Lucrece Castle (role playing wise this doesn’t make sense, but this is how you trigger the next plot beat).
    Akira: don’t worry too much about synthesizing to get good weapon/skills for cube. All of cube’s equipment are drops in the final chapter (including the chicken shot which is a pain to get through synthesis).

      Some moves literally turn the enemy sprite in place, such as Fleetfoot and Rolling Kick (this is demonstrated as he talks about it); the AI uses a movement turn to re-orient themselves, giving you more time to possibly act more often.
      Another valid strategy is to buff your stats with moves like Focus, or items like Haunch of Meat or Balmgrass; or debuff the enemy with moves such as Tiger and Dragon's Rebuke or Celestial Palm.
      There are also status ailments such as Paralysis that can give you loads of extra time to play with; hover over your skills to see if they have any buffs, debuffs, or status ailments to offer!

    I'm going to make a vital addendum: during Oerstead's chapter, DO NOT, under any circumstances, grab ANY treasure! None! Whatsoever! EVER! If you do, then they won't be there in the final chapter when you actually need them, and not only will you be up crap creek without a paddle, you may not even have the boat! Needless to say, Oerstead certainly isn't going to need those treasures where he's going, so a bit of patience pays off!
    I agree with the Sundown situation (note that you have to go through that long, agonizing process of recruiting him again if you boot him out). Even if he was easy to recruit, I'd still recommend him for the final party. So what if he has the worst HP in the game? Having a long-range attack, a high chance of countering, and a powerful skill at level 16 makes the last stretch MUCH easier. Pair him with Pogo and Cube and you've got an unbeatable team (my fourth was Sifu's student, but Oboromaru is a solid choice as well).

You take it in how you want to, and see what you think. “Only what you have equipped will make it to the final chapter”. This is a cheap move on their part. I was hoping they would correct it in the remastered version to carry over everything and not just equipped items.

    lol I just noticed you put the hashtag gaymer on your videos. Is there a niche of people who just wants to watch gay gamers? I knew from the first video that you are this way and don't care. I just watch for RPG content. Maybe it is something American or Anglo in general. More power to you if that is somehow important for me. I'm just a bit baffled because I find it curious to make such statements. But Anglos often baffle me on many things

      Not sure why he does this, but I suppose he has his personal reasons with which we are unaware. As a straight male, I am a sub because David is such a good game reviewer, and I like his personality.

      Because representation matters. It's a concept that can be hard to grasp when you're not a minority of any kind. If you are though, draw from those experiences and think about how the perspective of being that minority can make something (such as a piece of media) entirely different.
      As a gay man myself, I know that David is experiencing these games through a similar lens as I am which is quite different from the heteronormative lens/perspective that the vast majority of these games are usually made from. As such, I know that his content will sometimes speak to me on a more personal level because we relate to each other more.
      In the grand scheme of things, the #gaymer isn't meant to alienate anyone, but to provide visibility for those who need/want it. 🙂

    It's not a huge deal, but you're pronouncing "live a live" wrong. It's "raibu a raibu" in katakana so it's not " *lɪv* alive", but "laɪv əˈlaɪv".
    I used to say it wrong too until I saw the katakana😉
