    Thank you for this video sir. I too have had my ui16 for 6 years, and the few gigs I’ve done where the location was in a remote area, I had these connection issues, and there was one gig where I had lost complete control for 2/3 of the show. Thank God for your background in computer networking! 👏🏽

      Thanks. A $50 router and some settings tweaking, and the UI16 is a great unit.

      Respected senior user, please accept my regard. I know it's been 8 years ago device, but i just purchased it a month ago. There are so many bad reviews, but i still insisted on the features on my budget. I wish my ui 16 will last longer like both of yours, sir! One question: Is there any shutdown procedure to turn off the unit or just close the volume and then switch off? Really need your advice to make it durable. Many thanks, and stay healthy for you.

    great explanation. I've had my UI12 for a year for DJ work thanks. I'm going to go full cat5E LAN (with wifi/hotspot disabled) as the mixer right next to the my 2nd laptop running lights and Ui Gui. thanks

    Hi Bob, thanks so much for this video: I've just had this very bad experience yesterday night. My Ipad did not want to connect and so I've finally used my Iphone to get the mixer acccessible. I have to say that this mixer is great because it's not heavy, pretty small and have a lot of routing and FX options but what a shame being dependent of this f*** wifi connection !

    I have been using the Ui12 for 3 or 4 moths and had zero issues with the internal WiFi, which was strange as everyone talked about how problematic it is. Then I switched to a Behringer XAir12 and that thing was unusable without the external router. The Behringer was much faster to work with as it had the PEQ besides the GEQ on every master channel, also the app was much better optimised for the phone compared to the HTML5 version for the Soundcraft, also much more powerful routing and effects tweaking abilities made me use the Behringer instead of Soundcraft.
    However, I need to purchase another one and XAir12 is not available at the moment due to chip shortages, also the prices are a much higher so I ordered the Ui12. It is still a great mixer, just need to learn how to live with all the limitations.

    • @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer

      I've never had the chance to use the XAIr stuff. I have used the Mackie DL32 and it's a great mixer as well. It also needs an external router for consistent connection.

    First of all. Thank you for so many informative, well put together videos. Back in the day I ran a small sound and lighting company in Sydney and freelanced for JANDS who were and still are the biggest production company in the entire region. I got to work on some pretty big shows including running FOH. However, that was back in the entirely analog days with a 32 channel desk and everything else outboard. I am using a ui16 for my band here in south Florida and suddenly started having exactly the issues you describe with wifi connection. My answer has been to configure the mixer to run hardwired via ethernet into my MacBook Pro. We are a trio running extra tracks off an iPad using Stagetraxx 3. No stage amps, everything into the mixer and then in ears with a click. I mix from the stage and everything has seemed to be fine for the last three gigs. My question is, have I solved the problem?

    • @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer
      @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have wifi and hotspot disabled in the UI16, you likely have solved the problem. I've been using the ui16 with an external router for a number of years without issue.

    Thank you for this video. I am having same issue, even with external router, and both hotspot and the WiFi on the ui24r in the off setting. I’ve got DHCP off and used a manual gateway which is the router’s IP. Several other setup videos say use manual gateway. Scared to try turning on DHCP because I might not be able to gain access at all. That being said, mine seems to be directly related to when I put a USB drive into it. I formatted the drives to FAT32, and the multitrack was working for a song or two, but now I’m getting the issue very soon after the USB stick is inserted. The USB drive I’m using is the same one another person said they use all the time with this machine. So fed up with this!

    • @danlogan4149
      @danlogan4149 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, no issues unless I use any of the four USB jacks. Except the blue WiFi light is always on, which didn’t used to be like that. I wonder if this is software issue that was caused by the USB. Seems to me that if that light is on, and I’m using USB, then I’ll have the connection issue. I dunno. I guess I’ll have to try calling Soundcraft. Such a shame because this thing is really awesome otherwise.

      @@danlogan4149 Until a resolution, I wouldn't have any USB devices connected. You could go back to using some kind of analog player for music between sets, etc. I do believe the blue light is always on with my UI16 as well. I'll have to pull it out and check. I never had any connection issues with it, and I keep a USB jump drive with music plugged in all the time.

    • @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer
      @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you lose connection, do you have to reboot the unit to get it back? If not, you are actually having a wifi connection issue, not the problem I described. Are you using an external router? How that router is configured will determine how you configure the LAN port of the UI. I use the Airport Utility on my iphone to scan the wifi environment. There are lots of wifi scanning apps in the app store as well. Hope this helps.

      Did I already answer this? hmm, getting old. Anyway, connect the UI to the external router using the ethernet port on the UI. Connect the Macbook to one of the regular ethernet ports on the external router. Do Macbooks have an ethernet port? You may need some kind of adapter for that. The ipad will connect to the external router via wifi. This assumes you have all your IP stuff configured correcctly. Hope this helps.

      Get an external router. You will use the wifi provided by the router. Be sure to disable both the hotspot and wifi on the UI. Connect the UI to the router via an ethernet cable. You will need to configure at least the router to connect to the UI. There are lots of vids on YT for that. You don't need a USB stick just to restart the unit. A restsrt takes about 5 minutes.

      It's a Belkin router. I don't remember the exact model. It's nothing special. Get one that does both 2.4 and 5MHz, and that has 4 or so ethernet ports. You can give band members access to the aux sends so they can do their own monitor mix. I need to do a video on that as it is rather confusing. Using the external router doesn't add any new features, it just prevents the UI from crashing.

    • @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer

      Yes it is. The UI and controlling device need to be on the same LAN, and connected with an ethernet cable. Example UI is 192.168.1.1 and controlling device is 192.168.1.2. You would type 192.168.1.1 into the browser on the laptop, computer, or whatever the controlling device is.

    I was thinking of buying this unit, but was wary from all the talk of connection loss. In 2023, which router would your recommend for the networking challenged? By using the lan, I guess you are saying that you go from the router via ethernet to the ua16?

    • @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer
      @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Any dual 24/5 wifi router will work. Mine was about $40 on ebay. Yes, you go from the ethernet jack on the UI to one of the regular ethernet inputs on the router. Be sure to disable the wifi and hotspot on the UI after you have your LAN configured.

      @@TheGiggingGuitarPlayer Thanks again for your dedication to this product and its users. Really embarrassing question - so I assume when you say "connected to the LAN" you mean that you have a router connected via RJ45 cable into the "ethernet" jack? AND, in your settings menu, you've disabled the wireless signal to the Ui's built-in antennas? I'm getting my Ui24r in a few days, and actually want to run a router (hoisted onto a stand to about 12ft high above the stage) AND I want to run a Cat6 cable (100ft) to a FOH position as a backup. Thoughts?

    • @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer

I carry a 100ft CAT6 cable and a chromebook as a backup. I use a USB to ethernet adapter with the chromebook. I have never had to use the cable/chromebook, so I carry them, but don't set them up. If you are using an external router, and have wifi and hotspot disabled on the UI, you should be good. It sounds like you have a good plan. I'll be doing a video with all my network settings. • @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer
      @TheGiggingGuitarPlayer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My best guess, if you are getting the connecting message immediately, maybe your network is not configured correctly. Are you using DHCP or static IPs? How long does the connection last before you get the connecting issue? Can you control the unit at all before that happens?

      Connect an ethernet cable between the port on the UI and your router. Use one of the non colored ports on the router, not the colored internet port. You have to know how to access the admin page on both your router and the UI. This can be done with your tablet. Then you configure the UI and the router. There are multiple videos on youtube for this. I have one on my UI playlist. If you don't know how to access those admin pages, hopefully you have a techie friend that can help you. It would take too long to explain here. It involves IP addresses, DHCP, etc. Maybe somebody has a video for that. If you purchased it from a store, they should be able to help you. Take the UI, router, and tablet with you. Any computer service place could do it as well, for a price.

      They are. This unit is no longer a priority. I would be surprised if there are any more updates for the UI12/16.

    I contacted the dealer in The Netherlands today. They say: "Er zijn geen problemen met de WiFi connectie. Wel is het zo dat in een omgeving waar veel WiFi in de lucht hangt de connectie erg moeilijk te maken is. Bijvoorbeeld op grote beurzen." which translates to "There are no problems with the WiFi connection. It is true that in environment where there is a lot of WiFi traffic a connection is hard to make. F.i. at large venues.". In your opinion, are they telling the truth?

      That is certainly not true for the early units. I can't speak for the newer ones. The wifi component of my unit, and many others, if enabled would cause the computer part of the UI16 to crash. It had nothing to do with crowded wifi channels, distance, or anything other than that part of the UI being enabled.

      @@TheGiggingGuitarPlayer Ah, right you're talking about the UI16. I just bought a UI24R. That might be different indeed. I'll test it out and let you know what my results are.

      @@rushondjojosentono6467 I do both, gigging and running sound. The last few years I've had way more sound gigs than guitar gigs, though.

    This sucks

      It does. The external router and disabling WiFi and hotspot seem the only solution.
