- A quick demonstration of the AFS2 feedback suppression feature on the soundcraft UI12 digital mixer. I don’t usually do demonstration videos so I’m just using my iPhone rather than screen capture software but I hope it helps.

Its scary that this is the best AFS demonstration on TH-cam....
At least in English.
The Soundcraft tutorial video was crap.
Hahah I agree, this was the first and only time Ive had any interaction with these mixers and I was learning its basics for a client. Since I found garbage tutorials on afs and am extremely busy I decided to make a learn-as-I-go vid shot with my iPhone. 😆
Brilliant explanation. I've been wondering why we have stopped picking up live feedback frequencies from our Aux Monitor and now know. Somehow the selection has been switched to Main!
This is very helpful, but there is a limitation. You only get 6 or 7 feedback notches on fixed, and another 6 or 7 on live. I have a very difficult sound environment where I found the AFS2 system was live moving my notches when I was ringing out the room with each mode. Also, you can play pink noise through a computer input into the mixer to make detecting feedback even more prevalent while the mic is on. Feedback can also start when you stop the pink noise as the room's reverb will emit a harmonic that will also cause issues for your sound system as well. Hope this all helps someone.
For the price point of this mixer I don't know what you can expect. If you find a competing mixer with this quality that has a more advanced algorithm, please let us know. But live mode is what it is. Don't use it if you want fixed mode. But if you have these kind of problems, you may just want a more advanced setup.
If you can't fix it with 6-7 notch filters you're doing something wrong! Check your gain and learn to use your ears rather than these toys.
IT'S MORE THAN ENOUGH > what cannot be fixed with 6 +6 AFS2 + 31band eq's on each master and aux output cannot be fixed 😂 just learn how to do the job you're hired for and if you're not , than hire somone and learn from him. I am live foh engineer for over 20 years and i can tell your problem is certainly more in the realm of using the right mics, mic positionning, speaker choice and placement for the venue u mix in. Good luck cheers from Belgium
If you have that many issues just buy a feedback destroyer outboard device and put inline to the PA
I had trouble finding a concise tuto on this, yours is very informative, thank you !
Thank you! Definitely the best video for explaining how to set this up!
Very informative and concise! Easy to understand. Thank you👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Very useful and informative.. Thanks.
YES!! Thank you, the manual was severely lacking on the setup. This is exactly what I was looking for!
Thank you very much this was really helpful
Very Helpful! I have a UI24r and now I'm ready to adjust my AFS!
Awesome. I was wondering how to set it up easily... you made my day !
Thanks, that was a lot of help!
Great video Straightened the mystery AF2 for me thanks
Thank you for the detailed explanation and demo! Awesome!
Thanks for The demo. This was very helpful. 👍
Thank you so much.., recently I bought ui16
Excellent demonstration!
That's what I was searching... Thanks Buddy...
im the 1k like 😉 congrats bro!
Cheers man!
This was super helpful and pretty much eliminated live feedback for me
Thanks bro 🙏🏾
Thanks a lot man! Best regards from Brazil!
Thanks for the explan, cheers.
Hugely helpful. Thank you!!
Good and clear explanation
Thanks very much
wow! thank you very much!
Thanks so much - really helpful demo. I assume if you save the show it saves this too? So if you have the same room with the same issue it’s solved?
Great Vid!
Thank you this helped a lot
Great video :-)
Well done, I am considering the ui24r
I have the ui24r. So many features it difficult for me to figure out how to do things
You are very much appreciated. Ty so much
Great tutorial. Thanks buddy
Thanks! very helpfull
Yep.. I am here after failing to get traction on the soundcraft vid.. So, while the soundcraft guy does a sound check then sends the band to the pool, leaving us wondering as to how he tickled the PA, in order to find the problem frequencies, it's quite clear what you have done with your single mic. I think I can repeat this with my system, but do I not need to throw every sound source I will using during the gig at the AFS system, in order to get the complete picture...? Wherein, why did he send the band to the pool...??
That really helps thanks
Thanks mate ! Very helpful ;)
your the best, thanks!
This is awesome. Is the AFS included with the Soundcraft?
Excelente, saludos desde México 🇲🇽🌮
Thanks my bro!
thank you
AFS is good ASF
Buen trabajo gracias saludos desde Ecuador
amigo mio, me alegro de que este video haya sido util!
Excelente!!
Nice, thanks
Grazie, nonostante il traduttore, sei stato molto preciso. Complimenti
Prego
Thank you
great help
Muchas gracias por la explicación.
Thank you very very much. 🙃
Thanks!!
Thanks sir
Great video Jacy! Can I ask if this exact procedure can be done using an ipad in a live situation? Many thanks
My only experience with this mixer was on a laptop but I’m pretty sure that this can all be done in the same fashion with an iPad. If you are not directly connected to the mixer via ethernet be sure you have a strong, reliable and secure Wi-Fi router.
I don't even own the UI but this is a great video. I am on the fence between the UI and the Behringer
It’s a tough choice between the two, man! I find that with either make sure you use a proper Wi-Fi router since built in Wi-Fi is not trustworthy whatsoever in a outdoor or marginally crowded public space. That being said it’s easy to setup a Wi-Fi router into a small rack system..the sound craft is not rack mountable unless you get the larger 16 channel. I think the Behringer has an edge sound quality wise however the soundcraft and prevents that feedback suppression which really is handy if you have time to set it up, esp for monitors.
I noticed that it does not work with both in the same time, either you use fixed or live mode. Live frequencies overwrite the fixed ones and it is not possible to have double the amount of notches. Still not sure if this is how it works, but it is somewhat confusing while removing fixed frequencies because of the live ones.
i was wondering if this was the case, thx
I wonder why the SI performer doesn't have feedback suppression
This was a great informative video could you make a video on saving a show please
Sadly I do not own one of these mixers. A friend asked me to figure out the feedback suppression for him, this video is the only experience I have with the mixer. Sorry.
Hi there. How to connect the laptop to the rest of the staff?
At a couple of gigs I play they have this system there. The room is full of people when the band arrives.. does it work jumping right in to live mode? Or do you have to set it up and ring out the frequencies in fixed mode first?
You will get some feedback reduction with just the live mode but only after it feeds back and learns the frequencies. if you ring out first it’s better because it keeps there from being any initial feedback squeals that the crowd might have to endure.
great video boss, but may you help with, when/what’s difference between fixed and live, when is recomendable to use one of them, thanks in advance
i would think fixed is for same venue and microphone etc, live is when you're touring around
@@johneem Not exactly. Live is applied to remediate the venue's obvious problem freqs and saved, i.e. always ON, while Live is working in real time, shooting at the problem freqs as hey appear during the performance. If it has run out of filter (they are limited), the oldest applied filter gets replaced by the one applied to the newest found problem freq. Problem frequency = the one causing the feedback. Hope this helps. Hello from Azerbaijan.
Hello, please help me to connect afs2 to mixer please
I have a UI16 and have found your tutorial very helpful! But i noticed that once i turn off the mixer, when i turn it on again, it will not bring up the list of suppressed frequencies :-(
Does anyone have a similar experience? Or am I missing something?
I don’t actually own this mixer but I would think there is some kind of a recallable scene or a show file that can be saved to recall Those settings.
I saved a show but it does not automatically load the AFS2 settings.
Hey man l m using Soundcraft ui16, but l m getting too much hissing sound , do you have any solution to that?
What is the source and what are the cables used? We may be able to track down where the hiss is coming from, it would be good to verify the gain staging and settings. :)
So all you do is turn your mic on and off each time you get those bad frequencies and it will pick them up
Okay okay cool demo ... but did anybody notice that this guy installed Windows on a MacBook? :D
Haha sorry for late response. Bootcamp has been working for me for many many years now with little to no adverse experience. Parallels on the other hand did not work well for me at all especially when using a DAW. It’s a shame that the new M1 Max cannot handle Boot Camp and windows the same way that the Intel-based Macs from 2019 and earlier could.
Big thanks
I just bought a Ui16
Very informative
