The best part is when you have a DM who lets you flavor your insults do deal different types of damage. Like if an insult is particularly spicy then you also have a chance to do fire damage or if you're make a very detailed description of an attack they may let it happen. Cutting word can be flavored so many ways to make it even more fun
My personal Countercharm Buff. Use your action and all creatures of your choice within range get to make an immediate saving throw to end all charm or frighten effects on them and they add the bard's charisma modifier as an additional bonus to the saving throw.
It's a neat buff to Countercharm. Usually I let player use it for let a number of charmed allies within range to redo the saving throws with advantage to end the charmed status, and they can redo the roll with advantage everytime the bard use this feature.
Easy fix to Countercharm: Just make it similar to a Paladin aura: All allies within15 to 30 feet of you (maybe the range scales, up to you on what would be considered a balanced range) get advantage to saving throws against being charmed or frightened. Boom, the end. Requiring any actions from the Bard is silly. Their action economy is already pretty busy. Just make this a passive aura and move on.
Lore is good, Eloquence is borderline busted. But I love the Additional Magical Secrets so much. I took Shield and Magic Missile, because my compatriots were a Paladin and a Cleric both with Heavy Armor.
The Lore Bard would absolutely question the validity of a global movement to vaccinate everyone with a big gov/big pharm, untested shot. That’s how the flayers get ya.
Nice video, once again. Bards are so much fun. Lore Bard still stands out even with the addition of the Eloquence Bard. I’m using a Swords Bard with a hex dip in a CoS campaign. As far as new sub-classes to look at, I really like the flavor of the Order of Scribes wizard. If you haven’t looked it over, I recommend it. It takes nerd wizard to a whole new level, and can really create some crazy antics for a party.
It’s great to see the Lore Accords finally realized and I love that you referenced how long it took us to get here in the video. 😂 Keep up the great content and congrats on growing your channel!
As a kazoo Bard, I am rather disappointed you didn't mention the kazoo as a spellcasting focus. You did mention the slide whistle, which is another of my favourites, so I'll let it slide.
I (my bard) was fighting a frost giant. When it woke up from a magical stupor, it threw a rock at me. I promptly convinced it that the other frost giant had killed its friend and made the two fight.
Lore Bard is my favorite subclass too, but in my case it's because I like playing nerdy smart characters. Which is why Knowledge Cleric is my favorite Cleric Subclass, and it's virtually unheard of for me to play a character that doesn't have Intelligence or Wisdom in their top three stats, with many of them having both, and absolutely no one having Intelligence as a dump stat, and only my Fighter having Wisdom as a dump stat. (Which is why I call that character an idiot)
As someone who plays a College of Lore Bard, I should warn y'all that it ain't an easy class to play. It really shines as a support class. Be as annoying as possible. Within reason. LOL.
I mean...much as I appreciate it, you could just look at the spell list to know Bard specialized in support. Hell, even Valor Bard, the martial tank subclass is all about supporting your allies with slapping bitches being an option, but not the focus.
It’s more than the class Mechanics, although that is definitely true. If you don’t have the ability to shit talk and talk shit in real life, they are hard to role play in a way which is really satisfying, fun and memorable to either the player or the party, imo. Example - casting Tasha’s hideous laughter is a lot more fun if you can actually think of something funny to say before you cast the spell, even though mechanically it’s unnecessary.
@@VesiustheBoneCruncher Playing a stereotypical Bard isn't necessary. I played my Lore Bard like an aloof fae creature from the faewild (Eladrin race) and I picked nature themed spells, and support spells. Essentially, a charisma Druid. Point is, the character wasn't charming in the traditional sense, it was more otherworldly and passive, and instead of insults while casting spells, she would whisper dark threats or take on a scary visage. It was a fun, different take on the Bard. (I took web and conjure animals for level 6 magical secrets. Not the most powerful but in theme for the character. I also grabbed the Fae touched feat for misty step, also on theme.)
@@greyelf1537 yeah, an approach like that is definitely the way 👍. But conceptually it’s hard, as I said. It’s huge fun to come to come up with a character like that, and deeply rewarding. My point is more for people setting off into their 5e career, thinking that somehow, playing a stereotypical bard will magically make them one. And it won’t. And it is this class that I feel that role playing skill, which anyone can learn, but takes some people more time, is most exposed. Season 1 of DCA was a great example of this, a newbie player (who ended up fantastic, but was painful to start with), who compounded their mechanical confusion with trying to be an emo (further compounding the problem) bard. It took *Chris Perkins* an entire season of giving him gold to coax him out of his shell, and to his credit, come out of his shell he did, but it was obviously difficult for everyone, not least the player. Most DMs are not Chris Perkins
@@VesiustheBoneCruncher dude, I talk more shit playing Warlocks than I ever did with a Bard. In fact, my favorite Warlock was a private investigator that talked like a Devil May Cry character and skirted the law just enough to get information that the local authorities couldn't. Like...my Bard wanted to be a hero like his father. He focused on protecting people. My Warlock was an asshole with one-liners who burned people and enemies alike. Talking shit isn't essential to anything here. It's just funny.
Halfling lore bard. Most of his skills include: Vicious mockery Cutting words Silvery barbs The inate lucky skill Dissonant whispers Silence Hold person And I think warding winds I’m deliberately trying to make my bard the iron ball that weighs down others. Often disrupting and making sure the enemy has no fun whatsoever. Some tips on how to make this even more of a nightmare for anyone my little guy meets would be appreciated.
Yeah okay Lore Bard is pretty good. Also, protip: Do a one-level dip into _literally any other class_ for level 20 because HOT DAMN is the Bard capstone ever completely useless.
Welp, let's say this. I love these videos and I was thinking "wait, for my next character I have to choose between Lore or Valoe bard!" So why don't ya help my indecisive ass by making a Valor bard video? It would be good to help with the "extra attack syndrome" you seem to have developed. But it's on you to add it to the poll.
"Hurr durr why don't you just play a wizard if you want to have all the spells?" "because I cannot resist Shit talking 9 to 5" this was the actual legitimate reason why my theatre kid pirate character was a bard and not a wizard lmao
The Lore bard is a little uneven. The additional magical secrets is spot on, as is the bonus proficiencies. But cutting words is not lore based. It feels like it should be part of a jester subclass or something.
Weird request, but when the Champion Fighter comes up, can you please not include any frogs in it? My Champion Fighter player has an intense phobia of even the word "frog", and I'd like him to be able to watch the video without going into convulsions. XD
I want it to be known i was one of the generals in the campaign to keep the lore bard from being nominated. Had we the resources we would have kept it down indefinitely

“We never liked you, we just let you fight us because we felt bad for you.”
DM: add 2d6 Cold Damage
wow, that's an amazing flavor text! I love it!
Thanks! That's a beautiful idea!
@@vek144 you're welcome let me know how it turns out if you get around to using it :)
Writing this down for myself
The one advantage of a crappy Capstone is it means you can do a one or two level dip without feeling like you've missed out.
True replace level or two of ranger with fighter or Druid is so much better than adding Wis mod to damage at level 20 action surge is just amazing
The prophecy. It has become true. The Bard is finally done with our shit and took over.

Lore bara are the most versatile and the vanilla mechanics gives you a blank canvas for roleplay and character development. That's my favorite part.
Today really is the best day ever
I always love comments like this.
Everyday is what we make of it.
7:37 That would indeed be an impressive feat of deception via performance.

Id love to see one of these for the Echo Knight Fighter. Also, congrats to Bards for finally getting this episode!
I fell out at 3:18 and instantly started singing.
Man is a true Bard and a man of culture
Super happy to hear that excerpt from the greatest children's book of all time.
Love this college. Really hard to decide between lore and eloquence for me.
Lore is good, Eloquence is borderline busted. But I love the Additional Magical Secrets so much. I took Shield and Magic Missile, because my compatriots were a Paladin and a Cleric both with Heavy Armor.
Higher level: I'd defer to eloquence albeit low level that's fine.
The Lore Bard would absolutely question the validity of a global movement to vaccinate everyone with a big gov/big pharm, untested shot. That’s how the flayers get ya.
As a choir kid and a Bard main I approve of the singing
The Lore Bard has been freed.
_Who will be our next victim..???_
My dude keep these coming , you quickly became my favorite DnD channel !! Too funny and too true

Absolute fire parity I can’t wait to see more of your contact
My first Bard was a Lore Bard multiclassed with a Great Old One Warlock (Pact of the Tome, for more of that knowledge-y flavor). He was a lot of fun.
DJ Pimento Cheese would put Dolly to shame. Great vid as always dude!
Now were just waiting for the lore of college bard and bard college of lore
Been voting for this subclass forever now, all you clowns denying us this amazing 9-5 cover should be ashamed of yourselves
How is this page only 12 k? You will one day be a big hitter in the d&d TH-cam scene.
Oath of the Open Sea Paladin would be cool, it's another subclass by Matthew Mercer which is just really cool and flavorful
It’s great to see the Lore Accords finally realized and I love that you referenced how long it took us to get here in the video. 😂 Keep up the great content and congrats on growing your channel!
These videos are so fun thank you for all the hard work
really outdid yourself with this vid man

Love it whenever DJ cheese comes on out and gives us a good banger.
My personal Magical secret choices for level 10 is Find Greater Steed and Gravity Sinkhole.
YMBA: "Countercharm is too situational to be useful"
Ranger: "Welcome to the club"
That 9-5 rendition was masterful 👌👏
I love the bard class, in the moment im torn beetween lore or eloquence for my next character, both seems good
Literally “cutting words” is the guy from Happy Gilmore yelling “JACKASS” during his backswing.
Lore Bards may not win at polls, but they are winners in our hearts.
Finally.
The peoples choice.
I (my bard) was fighting a frost giant. When it woke up from a magical stupor, it threw a rock at me. I promptly convinced it that the other frost giant had killed its friend and made the two fight.
Finally Collage Bard of the Lore is here

whats the anime at 1:40?
