Wish I could have found this video sooner. After much head aches , wasting much time and money having all the following replaced: fuel pump, spark plugs and ignition coils, air control valve, and camshaft position sensor. But problem still persisted. Gave up, filed non operation, parked for half a year. Than finally found this video. Resoldered same exact area on the fuel pump relay. Problem fixed!!! Can't thank you enough!!! God bless!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ... My mechanic could not figure out WHY my car was shutting down .... he checked everything you can name for two days ... Well it stopped again , so I decided to have it towed to the Honda dealer.. He called and said everything was checking out perfectly and for me to pick up my 2002 Odyssey van ! He decided to keep it one more day and look it over again . I decided to google search the problem and found your video ! I told them to order the part and install it . the Honda OEM part cost $146.08 ( ITS THE EXACT PART THAT ADVANCED AUTO PARTS SELLS FOR $70 DOLLARS ) and Labor $307 dollars , Tax $19.38 = $487.01. I had told them to save the part for me . When I popped it open it was EASY to see the melted solder joint anda toasted circuit board near that spot ! THANK YOU AGAIN !
Thank you so much, my wife's car stop suddenly, my first diagnostic was the fuel pump (no noise coming from the pump as usual) but after watched your video I removed the relay, the same exactly issue!!! I used my soldering machine and now it is running like new!! Thank you so much. You got a new subscriber.
You just saved me a BUNCH of work. Our exact van wouldn't start, I suspected a fuel issue. MANY other's had ideas much more involved than this, I just tapped the fuel pump relay and voila, it started! Off to get a new fuel pump relay.
I was stranded 20 miles from home. Car ran perfect the night before. Turned over, wouldn't start. Checked the fuel pump fuse, it was good. Tapped the relay and it started and got me home. Thank you for the tip!
Angel thanks for this video. I have a 2002 Honda Odessey with 260K + miles and you put me right on it. Broke out the soldering station and the relay on the same pin needed to be cleaned & resoldered. Thanks for the videos brother.
Thanks for this video. This was exactly the problem with my '04 Ody. My shop had no idea what it was. Fixed it myself in less than an hour with only a soldering iron and no money.
this saved my husband and I roughly 900 dollars. we were about to take it to a shop for a fuel pump until I stumbled across this video and decided to give it a shot. we skipped passed testing to see if it was the relay and just bought the 50 dollar piece. it took the van a little bit to recognize it was a new piece, but it hasn't had any issues starting since installing it about 5 days ago. thank you so much.
Thank you so much for providing this information - I repeated this on our Honda Odyssey 2002, and it worked like a charm! What a relief to realize it was not a fuel pump or ignition issue.
Thanks for this. I was getting an intermittent green key light on the dash of my 2004 odyssey. Was chasing it down thinking there was an issue with the immobilizer and or the ignition switch. I located the main relay under the dash near the steering column as described in your video and tapped it with the handle of the screw driver and was able to get the green key light to come on thus allowing me to start the van. I took it out and resoldered the same place as shown in your video. Quick fix of less than 15 mins. Much appreciated!
Same exact solder joint was the problem in our 2004 Odyssey after losing power on the highway. Getting the relay re-installed was a real challenge. The cable run above it obstructs access to remove and install. Thanks Angel!
I have a 2001 Honda Odyssey , and today I went to drive it, and when pushing the accelerator, the van stalled on me. This has never happened before, ever. I started the van back up right away, and it stalled again a mile down the road. I took it home, and started looking for a problem with it. I even disconnected my battery cable for a few minutes thinking I’d reset any bad codes. It hasn’t happened since this afternoon, and it’s running fine again, but there’s definitely something wrong , because cars don’t just stall for nothing. Wondering if this main relay is my issue.
I came. I saw. It started after resoldering the same joint. It's been less than 10 minutes running in the driveway now. If it keeps running I plan to replace the relay anyhow. I smelled hot when I took the cover off. I think the relay in the process of failure has melted the solder not that the joint was so poorly done at the factory. I agree with many other other comments. You got to the point quickly without dragging it out to display your glory. Thank you for taking the time to make the video.
Thanks to you and your video i was able to find out what the problem was with my van. It wouldnt turn on on a rest area miles away from a mechanic and watching your video really helped out i really appreciate it
You sir, are a Fix It Angel indeed. My first thought was the fuel filer and that looked like a nightmare. Checked Fuel pump fuse, not that. Like you, looked all over the internet. Easy fix. Thank you!
Thank You!!! It Fixed my dads van that was down for 3 weeks. We replaced the pump bc it wouldn't run and the new pump wouldn't kick on.. Seen the broken solder on the relay and resoldered it after watching this video and it fired up!
Thanks for this video. I had the same problem on my 2004 Honda Pilot. I used an OBD2 scan tool to find that the "FuelSys1" showed an "Open-Loop." That proved that it had to be the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. When I pulled the relay out I saw that the same connection on yours became un-soldered. The only thing I did a little different than you, was that before I re-soldered it, I scraped away a little bit of the green coating on the circuit board to give the solder a larger area to hold the relay to the board. Works great now. Hoping to get at least another 5 years of use from my Pilot.
Thank you! I have had this intermittent problem for a while and learned to live with it until yesterday. I found several sites that explained what the problem was but this was the easiest to follow. Just installed the new relay and it starts.
I love this channel. Other popular yotubers would have milked this in to 50 minute video and would have oscilloscope and fancy scanner. You know that list!! I especially appreciate you editing it and fast forwarding the removal/replacement part. If need to watch it, I can slow it down and watch it.
Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it. I hate those videos too. Just get to the point already!! I hate time wasted especially my time. Have a nice day. Please like and subscribe. Thank you again.
Fix It Angel my 2000 Honda Odyssey is doing the same. I replaced the ignition starter switch which I would tap on when it wouldn't start, then it would but,, that didn't fix it. I know it needs a new map sensor and I just purchased the new intermotor relay today and have to pick it up yet but could there be any other issues that would cause this? The timing belt was replaced 2 years ago. I did hear a grind from the starter when starting it the same day it broke down. I have no fuel, no spark, no crank. I'd appreciate your feed back as this is our only vehicle
Angel, whenever re-soldering circuit boards, like this one where the la4ge joints crack, it is a good idea to touch up ALL joints, the large terminal joints, this will prevent other joint or joints from failing down the road. It is a good precaution to solder them one at a time, at oposed corners if possible, as if you were torking them, so that the heat transfered from the soldering iron is distributed evenly, preventing damages. Great channel and as said before down to the point with no bs talk.
Work perfect!!! I punched the shit out of the steering wheel couldn’t find the problem didn’t hear the fuel pump turn on so assumed it was the fuel pump. Then I took the relay out. Shernoff threw a little Sauter on their back to normal.Thank you!
Changed the ignition switch. $400 later van still would cut off. Finally it wouldn’t turn on. Would crank but no start. Found this video. Went and tapped the relay well turning the ignition and bam it turned on. Thanks. Wish i knew this before the $400 but oh well lol u live and learn.
Thank you for the helpful video. Our 1999 Honda Odyssey had the exact same broken solder on the fuel pump relay. I soldered the relay, and it fixed the no start issue.
Add another one to the list. My Odyssey had been intermittently stalling, but always started back up. I had watched this video a while ago, so when I was at a friend's shop and it wouldn't start, went right to the relay. Reflowed the solder on the same pin and back on the road. Thanks for the tip. :)
Thank you for this! I just fixed my same issue. The van died twice on my way to work. I pulled the main relay out and soldered that same joint. Drove it for 30 minutes and the van didn't die!!
I juts start to have this issue I noticed that when activating the parking brake this issue worked intermittent , now I know why I should go and re sold the relays=)
Having same Problem with my Volvo... Tested The Fuel Relay? It seems to be fine. However, That doesn't mean it's working properly... Because it happened all of a sudden. After I filled Up... Was having Problems with starting for a while though... Thanks for the Info. Will open the Fuel relay to check for damage... Good Video...
did it throw any code when you scanned it (if you did)? my mitsubishi montero has a similar problem. code it threw out was p0628 w/c basically means there's supposedly low voltage going to the fuel pump. sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn't.
Just a comment, I think checking the Fuel damper first is a waste of time, I rather check the relay first because it’s easy accessible just to unplug. It’s a go video.
Instead of tearing into the "fuel damper" to check for fuel, wouldn't it be easier to turn the key to the on position and have someone put their ear to the floor by the middle seats and just listen for the fuel pump to hum? No hum = check/replace fuse. Still no hum = check/replace relay. Still no hum = check/replace fuel pump.

Kickass. I probably would've thrown the replacement relay in the back and kept the OEM one running - looked from the guts like it was made better.
Wicked Angel Wicked. 👍
I like your videos...thanks
Good job 👍
Good job
Thanks, i repaired
Could this be true on the 2010 also? Same symptoms....

I agree but tail end of video has all the meat. Good shots if where goes what and solder job. Good video for it
Great Stuff
Please tell us cheap skates that you took the new relay back after you just had to re-solder the old one?
Mr805smoke 😂 nah bro, I just kept it just a spare
