How to repair your Honda main fuel relay for free

- If you have been driving older Honda's for a longer time you know their main fuel relays can sometimes randomly stop working. This 99% of the time causes some starting issues. Now you can replace it if you can find a replacement main relay on a wrecking yard, but it's even cheaper to fix it (provided that you have some soldering tools ofcourse)

The heat separates it then when cold it touches and starts again often.
Its not just the heat of summer. It also ARCS and makes its own heat. crazy. good vid. You showed how to open that stupid case.

True, If car is hot in the summer sun, it can also effect the relay. Air your car out first and try it. My 1995 Honda Accord has had issues in the summer. I now crack my windows a tad and park it under a shaded tree. It helps. I'm gonna need a new relay, or maybe a pump. Arghhhhhh
or an ecu.

Don't solder like him. The tip should heat the pad and melt the solder on the board. Apply new solder to the old solder area. Watch some soldering videos.

Flux & soldering iron alone to remelt existing solder will work
@@QSasquatch Yes it can, but if one uses a solder sucker and solders, don't do it like that!
No disrespect to the guy that made the video.
Soldering iron tips should be Clean... so that solder coats the tip, making for a clean solder joint.

Thanks for the tip. I was going to buy a new one but I resoldered the whole board instead. Why not? And now the car works fine. Before it would occasionally just not start, then have to sit a long time before restarting. Roll starting didn't work either.
I did have to check another video that showed exactly where it was.

Mine makes a clicking noise but is still not working the fuel pump is still not working there is not current coming into the wires. Can it be something else?

Checked the whole fuse box everything is ok no blown fuses. Opened the relay to check for cracks its all good like new. Don't know what is the problem
@@mazinbalushi6439 it could be a lot. For example an issue with a faulty alarm or the wiring being cracked somewhere or the ecu being broken or a faulty ground point

Well ....NOBODY RESPONDED TO HELP ME OUT....WITH SIMPLY : WHERE TO LOOK FOR THE MAIN RELAY ON MY 1988 HONDA PRELUDE 2.0 SI. BUT I WAS ABLE TO FIND IT ON MY OWN....UNDER THE DASH, ON THE STEERING WHEEL SIDE. I DID REMOVE/ UNPLUGGED, THE MAIN RELAY, OPENED IT UP TO LOOK AT THE SOLDER JOINTS....SAW NO EVIDENT PROBLEMS....HAD TO MAKE A BOLD DECISION : TO RE-SOLDER ALL 26 SOLDER POINTS----ANYWAY---- ( CAREFUL , NOT TO SPREAD SOLDER ACROSS CIRCUIT BOARD ISLANDS....GUESS WHAT....THE VEHICLE NOW WORKS EXCELLENT....NO MORE RUNNING OUT OF GAS....WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY....NO MORE " NO START" CRANKING....THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED , AFTER MONTHS OF PUSHING, WAITING, SPRAYING STARTING FLUID...AND RUNNING BACK TO THE IGNITION SWITCH...( NOTE: I WAS VERY DESPERATE....BECAUSE AFTER 2- WEEKS OF SEARCHING THE INTERNET, CALLING AUTO PARTS STORES...TEXTING IDIOTS AT JUNKYARDS...TO TRY TO PURCHASE A RZ-0045 MITSUBA MAIN RELAY....TO FIND THAT NOT ONE WAS AVAILABLE.....

With my switch on the main relay won't stop ticking and won't start
Need Ideas : My 1988 Honda Prelude Ignition Switch Always Started the Car Perfect...but Suddenly...I Only get the Dash Lights, On....but when turning the Switch to start the car----- absolutely Nothing Happens...( No solenoid Start....) But--- I rigged up a Push Button Switch, ran the two Wires to the Solenoid, and The Power comes from the POSITIVE + bolt at the rear of the Starter....the Car Starts fine....!!! As Long as the Key Switch is Activated....( and the Dash lights had come on , then stopped as Usual... Sooo why does the Key Switch not Turn on the ( Starter/solenoid) Anymore...??
Is Something Broken at the Switch...??? Do I need to buy a New Ignition Switch...??
Do I have to Pull the Steering Wheel to Inspect the Ignition Switch....??
Is there Some kind of ( inline Fuse ) that I should Know About...?? Should I have to check for : a short in the Power to the Solenoid/ Starter..?? I really Don't Know If this is a Typical Thing that Happens to 1988--- very old and Tired Preludes....!! This Car Has the "Flip- Up " Headlights....by the way....2-door. Hi there, if the click is present it means that the relay is broken or on the contrary is when the relay is OK?
It means the relay is okay
You should also hear the "whiring" sound of the pump priming , ir pressurizing the fuel tank, too.
There may still be a click but if the terminal delivering power to the fuel pump is 'cold' then it won't start the fuel pump. Relays have coils and contacts and it's vital that all the terminals are electrically sound. This video shows precisely how to repair a cold solder joint. The symptoms of a cold joint in the main relay is difficult or inability to start in hot weather. Often the car starts when it's cold but once it's warm it cranks without firing. Main relay up under the dash.

The guy working on a pre-1996 civic. It looks just like my old Civic SI interior. Which has the ECM under the passengers' seat instead on the foot wall on that same side.
no pwr to all 6 coils...recently replaced 3 of 6...gd bat...temp outside was 10 degrees, so left running to heat inside...returned & car was off...checked what I could and found no pwr to all 6. Any thoughts?

I have Acura MDX 2002 crank but doesn't start and the fuel pump doesn't work.i pulled out the electric cable from the fuel pump and it has 5 pins and checked the voltage in every one.only one give 11.5 voltage and the others give zero voltage .is that normal do I have to change the pump or it is electrical issue.thank you

maybe your starter motor is stuck? have you checked if your car gets fuel?

Hi, in my car, a honda Civic now replaced a new fuel pump and got another AC pump relay, but unfortunately there is still nothing! I turn the key and do not click on the relay and the pump does not go but if you think of a car then it starts, there is a click and the pump goes. would not receive AC power from the relay ?? what should I look first of all?

Might wanna check the fuses to the pump and relay....Check whatever else you were working on, make sure everything is connected.
Why not simply remelt the the existing solder? Why wouldn't that work?
That will work as well if you do it properly!
Old solder may inhibit nthe flow of electricity due to thermal corrosion.
Is it in the same location on the driver side ? I have an Honda Civic 1997
If I remember correctly, the Hayes manual applicable up to 1995 only. Check the area on the passengers side after you look on the drivers side. 1997 to 2092 may have a different placement.

@@martintydingco7365 Where is the ground or pigtail wire? I have a 1993 and my car starts but turns off after a few minutes and then fuel pump will not prime. I have to wait about 10 minutes and then the car will start and stop again. Any ideas? I will try the solder trick but my relay is brand new.
I suggest checking the wires going to the pimp under tge rear passengers seat. The may be a frayed/broken wire in the wire causing a short after warming up from electrical flow.
