The fish skin method is actually a history accurate way to heal wounds. As long as the fish is fresh. Flesh of a many sea fish are filled with healing qualities and vitamins. The skin is sealing and the scales protects against microorganisms. Its an old sailors medical aid. But it worked. When no other medical supplies were around.
Zeff's sacrifice hits even harder when you realise that by eating his own leg, he essentially ended his career as a pirate: he could never use his famous kicks ever again
Its further explained in the source material that wasn't pointed out in this adaptation was why Zeff and Sanji became chefs on a sea faring restaurant. They started the restaurant to make sure that there is a place that people can go to if they're hungry, especially in the vast seas.

Fun fact, in OP traditional pirate features like peg legs, eye patches, etc... are reserved for significant characters. Zeff is the first character we encounter with such a trait. The next one is going to be a lot of fun too x)
They've captured the feel of the anime, in my opinion. It's a roller coaster of emotions. The best example here in the live action is the ending where Zeff calls out to Sanji and tells him to keep his feet dry. It's an emotional scene, but right after, you're smiling and laughing because of Buggy. The One Piece anime itself is full of a roller coaster of emotions. There is a ton of memorable moments both in the first season of the live action and the anime. I hope you react to the anime in future videos.
This was really one of the most emotional episodes for me too. Sanji's backstory hit so hard! One Piece really has a lot of heart to the story and the characters and you can feel it! Bravo Netflix for bringing Oda's story to life in Live Action in a show that actually does it justice!
Luffy’s “so was I” comeback is actually a 4th wall break since Arlong in the manga/anime is much larger and they obviously couldn’t adapt that due to budget or restraints w/ practical effects.

In order for Zeff to survive on his leg, he would have had to do it small bits at a time. If he chop off his leg in one swift cut, the meat would have went rotten before he could have eaten it without refrigeration or fermentation. That would have been more painful to cut it off bits at a time. Shows what a badass Zeff is.
On the note of great continuity, I noticed recently that at soon as Luffy defeated Buggy they never showed Buggy's right ear until the scene where he's getting it back

I'm watching this just after having spent the weekend with my bro, who I persuaded for my birthday to watch the entire 8 episodes. Before this he'd tried all sorts of things One Piece-related and never enjoyed them once. As a full-on One Piece fanatic, I was determined, and my word what a success this adaptation has been! He loved it, and so has everyone I know that's seen it.
Im not sure if you noticed about Sanji's fighting style, but it's only kicks. The reason for this is because Sanji is afraid that if he fights with his fists, he will risk injuring his hands and then he won't be able to cook as well.

I wonder if they're going to show us that scene where he chops us fish bones to tiny bits and mixes them with the guts, then kneads them through vegetable fat and deep-fries them - I think if they're chopped up small enough to bones can disintegrate into whatever else it is they're being mixed with.
This is going to need so many seasons... I hope they had the actors signing multi year contracts, otherwise they be asking for 5mil per episode by the time it hits season 4 or 5 max and then you start cutting shit
Since these are actors who adore the show and want to do right by it and Oda, it's even like a passion project for them I seriously doubt they would turn selfish and demand more money that would put the integrity of the show at risk.

My favorite episode of the whole show! And my favorite character of the crew (Sanji), as well! My next favorite episode is number 8 though, so don't worry, the quality continues.
Being a Sanji stan is an emotional rollercoaster. Luckily this live action gave us a 5 stars, completely unproblematic experience, so that we can relax a bit 😂
Everyone thinks One Piece is just a goofy story but it has loads of themes in it that very dark and in our own world still but does in a way that it makes you think about it. Don't get me wrong you still have the happy parts but you have lots emotions that happen at once.
I love Sanji, but honestly I can’t choose who my favorite character is. Zeff and Shanks as mentor/father figures are so cool because I love how Sanji and Luffy show how much they learned from them.

They should have put that scene where Luffy is washing dishes and breaking every single one of them. Then they asked him how many he broke, and he replied quickly, "Ups, i forgot to count 😮" That was gold. They shouldn't have skipped it. I mean, that scene could have easily been added. It wouldn't have put a dent in the budget for this episode.
Just a fun fact, in the manga and anime, Luffy never heard any of their backstories, because he does not care, when he choose someone, he choose based on their choices and character now.
So here's a funny thing. The whole "fish-skin healing" thing is actually legit. BUT you can only use the skin, not any meat, or the wound will get infected. Also, this was only discovered recently here, but apparently on the One Piece world, it's been known for a while.
If you want to know something even crazier......this is only the second half of Sanji's backstory. We're going to have to wait a long time, but eventually we're going to hear about his life from before he started cooking on that ship in the first place

The fish skin thing is actually super real. In Brazil, they use Tilapia, a type of fish, skin to heal burn wounds and stuff. Pretty ingenious.
The anime is also a major rollercoaster of emotion. Will make you laugh and cry and root for the characters.

Everyone thinks One Piece is just a goofy story but it has loads of themes in it that very dark and in our own world still but does in a way that it makes you think about it. Don't get me wrong you still have the happy parts but you have lots emotions that happen at once.
I love Sanji, but honestly I can’t choose who my favorite character is. Zeff and Shanks as mentor/father figures are so cool because I love how Sanji and Luffy show how much they learned from them.
You should watch The Descent 2 and The Hobbit trilogy.

Just want to let u know cuz a lot of people don’t but fish skin does actually help wounds especially burn victims. Doctors even today may revert to fish skin for burn victims when treatments won’t help. So it isn’t fantasy this is an actually technique to heal wounds
Sanjis full backstory is a lot more sad than this, i highly doubt we will get to that point in the live action, but hoping we do

They should have put that scene where Luffy is washing dishes and breaking every single one of them. Then they asked him how many he broke, and he replied quickly, "Ups, i forgot to count 😮"
That was gold. They shouldn't have skipped it. I mean, that scene could have easily been added. It wouldn't have put a dent in the budget for this episode.
Just a fun fact, in the manga and anime, Luffy never heard any of their backstories, because he does not care, when he choose someone, he choose based on their choices and character now.

So here's a funny thing. The whole "fish-skin healing" thing is actually legit. BUT you can only use the skin, not any meat, or the wound will get infected. Also, this was only discovered recently here, but apparently on the One Piece world, it's been known for a while.
I hope this gets to Whole Cake Island because shes gonna shed even more tears for Sanji
If you want to know something even crazier......this is only the second half of Sanji's backstory.
We're going to have to wait a long time, but eventually we're going to hear about his life from before he started cooking on that ship in the first place
