    Thanks to those who said the blades are on upside down. Sometimes when I’m making these videos I miss the forest for the trees. I was so gobsmacked by the fact they were brand new blades I didn’t even notice they were upside down!!! 😂

    Use carb cleaner to clean those pull start clutches. Lubing them up is a very short term fix. Oil just attracts 4 times as much dirt which you’ll be using carb cleaner on the next time.
    Leave them dry!

      I think you are supposed to at least oil the shaft a bit with thin oil. I probably did put a bit too much, but I think it'll be ok.

    Blades are on upside down. As soon as you lifted it i saw the bogging down issue. I worked at a saw shop and people were changing blades themselves and putting them on upside down, then bring them to me because they didn't cut well and the engine was low on power. After a while, I looked at the blades first.

    You usually put those ball bearings in the starter dry. No grease,oil, nuttin! Lube can slow the balls from moving when trying to start. The only oil goes in that small hole on top of that starter shaft like you did. Man is that deck corroded. That's what happens when you put the mower away after mowing wet grass without cleaning. Needs to be stripped and repainted with Rustoleum paint. Looks they they ran over something which stopped the blades and cracked that timing pulley. Hence, new blades.

    • @Randall-mt7jk

    I'm thinking the balls might not have rolled into place because they were sticking in the grease, which was probably not intended to e there in the first place. They probably took it apart when it was clogged with normal dirt and grass, then cleaned it up and put too heavy a lubricant in it...just a theory.

  • @roberthardman3774
    @roberthardman3774 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You put little too much oil into the clutch assembly you just need to keep the shaft oiled all the oil in house anytime you tip the mower over on it side good chance will leak out anyway

    great mower but everything for that deck is EXPENSIVE, timing gears (originaly plastic and easy to break, but replaced with aluminum)near $150 each
    spindle assemblies if broken are also crazy
    spindle shafts and blades cost significantly more than other mowers as well.

  • @johngilmer-k2e
    @johngilmer-k2e 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    should never be any grease or oil around those balls. under that hole in the top is a piece of felt you put a few drops of oil on to lubricate the shaft to keep the clutch from sticking to it.

    Those mulcher/mowers are a pain, especially in damp grass, since there's no way for the clippings to get out from under the deck.😜 Watching you struggling with that blade clutch/drive clutch abomination would make me want to get rid of that blade clutch release and have it just lock in via the engagement handle. Those companies are so busy trying to protect people from themselves, that the product becomes almost unusable. Yet, people prove their stupidity all that much more, by suing the company for something that a little common sense would easily prevent.🙄 Those IC series Briggs are really good engines, and if you keep the oil changed, they'll practically last the life of the mower! I can't believe how much they want for that cast aluminum timing pulley.😲 That's just crazy considering most of the replacements come out of China anyway, even if the mower was produced in the U.S. As far as vintage commercial grade mowers, the only thing better than the Troy-bilt were the old Gravely tractor/mowers. They were practically indestructible!😎
