Great job Alex! Imagine that, a John Deere with a cracked hood! Lol. Nice repair and explanation of the ground diode for the coils. I hope you and your family are well after the hurricane. Stay safe and we will see you in part #2. 🚜👏
That is a lot of work, but most small engines on tractors are rated for 1500 hours, so it should have plenty of life left. I have a commercial Craftsman that is a 2007 model, and it has 699 hours on it. I just had to do a refresh and replace a lot of the same parts. I did that same pulley, the plate that that pulley is attached to, drag links, spindles, blades, a total engine service, plugs, a carb clean, starter, solenoid, and key switch. It was mostly the same stuff, and mine is on the same platform as this one. Mine still runs great and doesn't leak or burn oil. I put $450 in parts in it, but it was worth it for this particular machine. I wouldn't spend that much on one I am selling, but I am keeping it since I won't find a better one for the price I paid for this one (free). I still need to do some painting on the deck, fix a dent, and replace the deck belt, but that will be for another day.
Having to wait on parts is a pain. When I replaced that same pulley on mine, the carriage bolt that screws into the pulley broke, the OEM bolt was on back order, and I couldn't find an exact match anywhere. I waited about six weeks with my machine torn apart before I found one that was close and rigged it up so it would fit. The correct one showed up about a couple of weeks later, so I guess I will have to tear back into it at some point, but I'm not going to mess with it until I have to.
I’ve had to replace one diode so far. It was the one inline with the stator charging system. I cut the old one out, soldered the new one into place and added heat shrink. Worked fine but kind of a bugger to solder on the machine. Good to know there are pigtails available for the magnetos so no soldering necessary. 🔧👍
I replace all the spindle bearing and then I know it’s going to hold up for years 😮 On my own I have drilled and installed zerts and remove inside covers 😊
Amazon sells both of the drive belt pulleys as a set cheap. Best to replace both at the same time rather than go through the hassle again when the other one fails in 6 months or so. I had to replace 'em on my D105.
Hello Alex, greetings from Germany, as always, nice that you are doing well! Nice job again and my, perhaps your wife’s as well, concern always is about your nice and clean trousers and t-shirt at the beginning and that you then wipe your oily fingers clean on the trousers 😂 I guess you hear a little story everyday coming into the house again 😀🤩👍🌞🍀 Take care and I will be here for your next video 💥💤🌙 already 1 o’clock in the night here
Some engines just like choke. I have one with a 26hp Kohler that will not start without full choke and the air filter installed. My mom has a Cub Cadet with a Kohler that is the same way. It has to be fully choked on cold startup, and will not start without ether in cold weather. It has always been that way since it was new.
I'm sure you already know, but check that plate that the idler pulley attaches to. When I removed it on my machine, the hole where the spring attaches had nearly worn all the way through. I had never seen that before, but mine is the same age, with same number of hours, and is on the same platform. That kinda surprised me.
I actually really liked my old husqvarna 54 zero turn. Had a 22 Kawasaki on it and cut excellent. Wish I wouldn’t have sold it. I got a good deal last year on a Dixie chopper and have been using that. The cut is good but it’s such a heavy machine. Also the Kawasaki was severely neglected and smokes on startup. I’m not sure if I want to go through that whole machine or not yet. I have another exmark I want to fix up and try.
@@freedommowers420 did you ever keep that Honda powered craftsman I think it was? that thing ran so smoothly wasn’t it called a DCT or something like that?
I have 2 John deere x304s, one has 1750hrs, and the other has 750 hrs both have the 17.5hp kawasaki, both run perfectly, but the one with 1750hrs the steering sector is shot, they have all wheel steering, and that thing runs 299 dollars to replace, but the 750 one Is in perfect condition, hood is great too, so I'm going to sell both, one for price the other one for parts. Combo
If you’ve run a twin for any length of time, it’s easier to just feel the valve covers than anything else to confirm that both cylinders are firing. Everyone goes for the exhaust, but why would you do that instead of the valve covers? I think this is just one of those misguided tips that people pass on instead of really thinking about what’s easier and safer.
It was in fair shape for the age. I didn’t mean it was super bad. It had been sitting for a few years. The hood was broken I put another one on it. Lots of missing paint, locked up steering. Just saying it was a lot of work to get it back in shape.
I am aware of the gas spilling in the yard. I didn’t see it until a good amount had spilled. Thank you all for the support and input.
Try and lock your Brake

You got lucky on that carb. I have never had one that sat for a long time start up without cleaning the carb. That's awesome.

I really like his diagnosis methods great video!
Your lucky to be getting free anything now 😊
It’s that bad in most of America 😢😢😢
I get free stuff all the time. I think it's just where you live or where you look
love your vids hope you can do more
I’ll have plenty more videos coming.

Nice job.
Thank you! Cheers!
just a FYI on them v twins you have to put them to full throttle to start them without choke.
You did a amazing job way to go and i love your vids
That is how you clear a flood condition. Sounds like you are confusing the throttle choke units from the separate controls.

Good video Alex.Buy you a clamp on amp meter you will be happy that you did.keep them video's coming. And stay safe
I need a better meter for sure. This cheap one is terrible.
Wow dumped a lot of gas on your grass when you took the gas line off. Besides that love your channel and how good you are at fixing mowers.
Yeah more content is good I like your videos thank you for the video

Thank you. Yes I’ve got the kit installed with the two pulleys. I should have part 2 up this week with all of the repairs.

Hope you are doing well today there Alex after the tropical storm henela came through north Carolina
Thank you. All is well here, but yes the western part of NC is devastated. I hope you are well my friend.

Hey Alex what’s your favorite mower you worked on and the one you cut your own yard with?

@@TheHomePros6221 yea I’ve still got it. Just cut some of the yard the other day that my zero turn can’t fit in. It’s a dyt3000. Such a smooth mower
Alex, what is the purpose of the diode? Usually, diodes control the flow of current in one direction or turn AC voltage to DC.

Great job man, honestly I hate working on those Briggs but you seem to have good luck w em
It just seems like i get more Briggs than anything. That and kohler courages. Both certainly not the greatest but i have parts readily available.
Looks like a L130 to me. If that's an L120 that's rh best one I've ever seen
I instantly could see that the spark was too weak. Come on man
Its definatly an L120, I have one in my garage right now I'm pulling the heads off of. Its idling way too high
I was yelling at the screen you are emptying the fuel tank.lol
That spark tester you used doesn’t check spark. It checks current going to the spark plug.
Not a good indicator of actual spark
as the fuel tank drain in the yard smh lol
He ain't gonna mow it...he'll just burn it down...
We ever get a part number for that diode kit?
844547. Found them on amazon
A DANG OL DEERE
Oh yes haha. This Deere has been worked hard.
Did not look like good spark on this end, should light up like a light bulb, LOL, well not quite that bright, but better than what I saw.
Would be nice to see one with out a cracked hood and I heard a rumor there is one or two
You consider that mower to be crusty? WOW!
Thanks for watching.
interesting that JD spindle bearings are smaller than the MTD, AYP bearings :)

How much petrol went to ground after disconnecting the pump. It ran for ages!
I yelled but Alex couldn’t hear me! 😉
RIP grass
Definitely not crusty whoever owned it took care of it crusty is busted Hood rusted out deck flat tires no seat and Rusty body parts that's crusty.

you are dripping gas on your lawn. great way to kill the grass
I’m aware of the gas spilling after the fact. Thank you for noticing.
