Forgot to mention, right now this should only be done in 128GB Duos. The FFU you install is meant for that and installing it on a 256GB Duo won't use the drive fully. If anyone spots a mistake, let me know. My brain was fried making this.
Is this a real windows on mobile phone ? Or just emulator ? Or android and windows? It is my dream to use windows on the left side and android phone on the right screen... it would be amazing
You know how long I've been waiting for this video!! Just wasn't sure if it would actually happen. Looks like it's time for my Duo 1 to get itself an upgrade 👀
Is there any progress on the A14 Pixel ROM project that you showcased before? I think Ty runs that project IIRC. I remember your last video update on that and how surprisingly well and complete things ran. I appreciate your efforts here as always. I just don't see the use of having full Windows on what would be a very underpowered ARM PC. Thanks as always for the content.
Looks like Thai's latest update on his GitHub page for the A14 Pixel ROM for Duo was the v2023.11.30 update from late last year but looks like progress from the initial build in early October has been slow but that's understandable seeing what he's been able to do by himself. Curious if anyone with a SD1 has been keeping up with Thai's A14 builds and if you can share your experience.
hi Shane - at ~9:05 mark, I see 2 Surface Duo groups on the left-side column of the right-sided split screen. just wondering as to which social media platform that I can find these 2 groups, since I'm always/still interested in Surface Duo as a platform, Thanks ahead of time, and keep up the great vids!!
Thanks for the update I've been wanting to try this and buy a duo for this reason, please give an update when audio for the device works then I might pull the trigger and buy one.
Probably won't be. The SOC used on the Duo 2 will only load Android. There's a technical discussion I won't get into on this comment, but you can find more about that in online channels.
Totally off topic but has anyone tried to use the surface duo or duo 2 with only one screen? Like fully removing the other screen? Like a Surface Mono? Does it work?
I have no desire to justify it, just show what it is and how to do. If you want to do this, you know why you are. If you don't, you probably know why on that one too.
@@scaryifliteral Well, I wasn’t pressing for justification. Of course, you’re right. It just seems like a potentially risky proposition and was wondering what you thought people might gain by going out on such a limb.
Believe it or not, it's considerably easier than the old method lol. To be fair, the first half of this is basically just opening your Duo up to be able to do stuff like this. Since I've already unlocked my bootloader, I would have skipped until like halfway through this video.
You must be kidding me! Why would anyone install that windows shit on anything. Since retiring from working as an IT professional I have been rid of Windows on everthing I own, There's no way I would install that crap on any piece of equipment that I own.

@@michaelbmw1931 its the one or the other. you can make it dual boot and then boot into android or boot into windows.
@@michaelbmw1931 Dualboot
It appears that Gus has released the 256GB FFU today. 🙂
Shane...any chance of you revisiting this using the dual boot method? That's the panacea for me...truly one device existence. Appreciate you!

I still use this phone as my primary phone, hard to live without it.
Booting to windows right now shane! Thankyou, I've been waiting for something like this!!!!
Shane discussing Shane. Loved it.
Good to know that it also auto enables tablet mode so that everybody now uses Windows on Duo as God intended
i just found your channel and am a new fan. I'd be really excited to see if there's any update with installing windows on a duo 2
Dear Craig,
Thanks!!! Greetings from Berlin

Unfortunately my volume keys & FP sensor stopped working awhile ago 😢
Use the "Extend these displays" option in the display settings if you haven't already. I'm guessing that will help.
Really wish this was available for Duo 2.
Isn't available for the duo2 256gb!? When will it be available for that or is Microsoft came with Adroid 14 before EOL!?
Probably won't be. The SOC used on the Duo 2 will only load Android. There's a technical discussion I won't get into on this comment, but you can find more about that in online channels.
Can you please test whether the external monitor works via USB-C? I would also like to know if the charging works without problems. Thank you

C to C did not display out for me
@@scaryifliteral Thank you for info anyways
Thank you always for the good content. Is the battery time pleasant when running Windows with Duo?
My Duo has 256gb of storage. Probably just as well, I really don't need to do this - as much as I want to! I've book marked this video though.
All you're waiting on is for Gus to create an ffu for that storage, I'm sure it'll just be a matter of time if you want to go for it.
can I tun any desktop apps or only from Windows store? I need to run Metatrader4 on it
:o this is so cool, does the surface pen still work with it in windows mode?
Yes
Shane, I have a Duo, could shoot me the link to the post for resetting it to prepare for Windows download?
Resetting it before following these instructions is redundant because it'll be reset two more times in the process of doing this.
Shane, is there any android type upgrade for the Surface Duo?
Is it possible to use the MS Duo connected to a monitor and paired with a BT Mouse and Keyboard, precisely as the Samsung Dex does?
You can do all that, but there's nothing like a Dex interface.
Is there anything like this for other android tablets? I'm interested but I'm also pretty sure this build is surface specific.
Is there a way to enable phone calls with Windows?
Has anyone tested any drawing apps on this setup? I am tempted just to draw on windows drawing apps like Fresco or even photoshop! vs android apps.
can it run :
-vs code
-dotnet core
-docker or wsl
Wonderful news - thanks
But I'm not using Telegram - is there a different way to get the FFU files?
Not that I know of, what’s wrong with using Telegram? It was a relatively quick download
How do i know my device variant?
Totally off topic but has anyone tried to use the surface duo or duo 2 with only one screen? Like fully removing the other screen? Like a Surface Mono? Does it work?
Not sure if it's just me but the sound doesn't seem to be working right ?
Not working for me too
This is why you’re the GOAT!!!
Just communicating what Gus did!
Damn, still no european Duo 2 support.
Hope that changes at some time.
oh snap!
It would be most isteresting to me if you insteaf were able to install a Linux distro, maybe something like Droidian (Debian).
now just wait until they get windows susbsytem for android to run on it.....
Are you using Duo 1?
This is Duo 1, yes.
@@scaryifliteral thanks, how's the experience so far?
I had no idea my initials - ADB - could do so much
Is this possible on a Duo 2?
No
