I love seeing George looking happy man.
I love the way George talks, clear and eloquent in a really down to earth way.
+Jason C He has a voice for radio.
George Leeman's shins started bleeding half way through this interview.
Watched his podcast and it touched my heart he been through some shit
Never really heard a powerlifter make a somewhat convincing case for touch and go... until now.
+Colin DeWaay Ed Coan did it and preached it.
+Colin DeWaay Yeah he is exactly right about the form thing. I used to reset every rep and my form sucked and I never really progressed. As soon as I started touch and go I stopped getting minor injuries constantly and my strength shot up.
+jonmolina948 so does richard hawthorne. he made a video about it a few months ago on his channel.
Daniel Saez funny I feel like I can touch and go all day but suck at dead stop. Haha
Daniel Saez We gotta burn those straps. :)
My Pr's are their warm ups.... I am ever more motivated to get stronger!!
"The strongest deadlifter in American history, George Leeman"..... Insane
I would like to see what Brian Shaw can do, he pulled 975 with straps
+Dark Master seriously? Thats a completely different deadlift
+Dark Master I have seen the video, I was just questioning how stupid you are if you compare his 1155lb hummer tire deadlift to a normal deadlift
+Dark Master haha oh, no, he pulled 975 on a normal bar!
yea an 18" tire deadlift is quite different from a 12" Olympic deadlift.
Cheeky Mike from afar at 2:23, I see you!
I quite like the high belt position for ab bracing. Seems perfectly logical to me.
there has actually been studies that suggest the eccentric portion of a lift is better at building strength and providing a stimulus for change than the concentric
Got an article, would be interested to read that
+Haaris Majid Training pretty sure Ed Coan was preaching that when he stopped by ST
+Haaris Majid Training Try this for starters: www.ideafit.com/fitness-library/eccentric-exercise
+Haaris Majid Training Also check the wikipedia page for Eccentric training. There are a fair number of articles listed off the page to start your research
***** thank you sir
man those lungs are doing some work just to keep him alive
Thank you for the video, thumbs up.
Great vid and an even better podcast.
Richard Hawthorne also advocates touch and go deadlift reps! good stuff
Tried hook grip, found out I'm a bitch when it comes to that lol. Feels like my thumbs are going to disintegrate.
This video was fantastic, there was allot of knowledge dropped in that nine minutes.
The one thing I don't get about touch and go, as opposed to resetting between reps, is that some people say you should hold your breath, to brace your core, on the way up AND the way down. You obviously can't hold your breath the entire time for multiple reps.
Steven Zak you can reset at the top when doing touch and go deadlift
I like the idea that he thinks he's really good at guessing the weight and reps he'll be able to do. It's probably more like that he's capable of doing what he thinks he's capable of doing not that he's good at guessing. It's psychological.
you guys should get Eddie Hall on here, 1020lb deadlift.
I have the exact same thing with touch and go, my first rep is not beautiful but my second third and fourth rep are better
I'm not a powerlifter but I still had a takeaway from this video, which is that Leeman does the eccentric portion of the deadlift instead of essentially just dropping the bar. i've never been clear on which way to deadlift -- lift and drop, or lift and lower with control. This is one more stone on the latter side of the scale.
Whats that intro song? it is dope
Great vid smelly can't wait see you at the expo in Vegas
Holy shit, Mark is getting Big.
Is that a strong belt ?
Touch and go = constant tension = builds muscle.
How come ive never seen much other lifters wear the belt so high when its so crucial for leeman?
How is 904 the all time American record when cailer woolam deadlifted 948?
Everyone claims their lift is the record for something
George Leeman what a guy :)
yess
I can rep my max, but I can't max heavy on deadlifts. I dont know what to do to help that 1rm strength.
Try block/rack pulls with more weight than you can deadlift, then slowly work it down to a smaller block/lower setting on the rack.
George needs to get shredded again. It would help his business/marketing so much.
Nah he needs to break his own record in competition possibly aim for eddie halls record
+Dwarfsneedfood Yeah but a lot more people are into looking great first being strong second. So I agree with Jon, would definitely help his image. Would mean he's not 'just' a fat powerlifter, he's a powerlifter who is fat so that he can be strong etc etc... Help the image
***** You're right, that would be awesome to see, however, I can tell George wants to grow his following and business from his posts. If he got as shredded as in his transformation video, his clientele would triple. The guy is a blue collared, hard worker, he deserves a bigger following.
+Jon Y He's actually currently losing some weight, if you check out his videos he's got a few on what he's doing recently diet wise and everything.
+Jon Y he will but goal number 1 right now is crushing 1000 lb pull then probably
3:40 George's intro without heavy metal.
He sure seems well spoken.
Gotta get that fade corrected big bro
It's supposed to be like a Mohawk dawg haha
Once I tried belt in high position, I almost broke my rib.
I think its because he probably have more fat Around that area than we do
Is that a 10 mil belt or is he just that huge?
interesting how he likes touch n go so much, most people say dead stop is better
Yup. I mean if it works for him then that's convincing
+diahys732 What's important is he has found what works for him the very best. And so far, seeing as he is the worlds strongest deadlifter, He's probably listening to his body VERY well.
Dudes a monster!
Back before Georgey went crazy.
George was allways crazy. Lonely kid, in a fucked house, aspergers, massochism, severe sociall disorders. The man has issues.
@@overthebar Hmm. in addition to those observations and challenges. He is also a very sweet and genuine person. He runs very high Levels of T and manages to stay relatively calm.
Has he only got the powerlifting deadlift record? I thought Brian shaw had done 446kg in strongman?
Yeah ONLY the powerlifting record what a weak bitch eh..
Robert Hopkinson if you listened to the video he clearly said the U.S. deadlift record
Ryan Kueter he has the US record in powerlifting, not in strongman. If only you knew what you were talking about before talking shit
Robert Hopkinson damn she right she doesn't forgot that kind of stuff why would you break up
Brian deadlifts with straps. Hence it doesn't count
dont get that with the pinky. mine goes in too
EDDIE HALL!!!!!!!
Anything over 405 seems to hurt the thumbs a little bit on hookgrip lol
+Shayn Shawver if you trained long enough the pain becomes tolerable
+Shayn Shawver Took me 3-4 weeks doing hookgrip 3-4 times on all my DL warmups and rows, straps for DL working sets. By the end, I could do my DL work sets of 5 reps no problem, even heavier rack pulls (405+) for 5 on the first try (admittedly it is half the reps I can do with that weight, but still way more than I can pull off the floor right now).
Get jaytec tape.
I love George..but instead of doing touch and go because you get the negative and go back up, I would just do Romanian dead lifts instead.
Just realized he sounds almost EXACTLY like Neil Degrasse Tyson...
aww yeah
Rest in Peace *KK, 940, whatever*
I think brian shaw is the strongest deadlifter in the history of america though
Jeroen Coninx Brian Shaw wasn't born in America Dumbass
Uhh, yes he was, Ryan.
2013dcollette I know lol he was born in California
geoge has massive arms he reminds me of Stan the Rhino
Should of asked him why he hasn't sorted out his shaky legs. Not gonna get convincing lockouts at meets with heavier weight until that is sorted
Wasn't red lighted on the American world record, so do t think he is bothered...I don't think you can even sort that out, it's just the cns trying its hardest to move 909lbs
I think its because his squat isnt really trained anymore due to how often it injurs him, he basically said that on the video he did with mark bell
I miss your old intro :/
George Leeman doesn't squat?
qewr4231 Pete Rubish doesn't squat either he does only Bulgarian split squats until the competition
*I can like crush people with it and shit*
2 up 5 sec down
Interesting philosophy. So George doesn't squat?
he do use a deadlift stance box squat to help with drive of the floor. so yes, he squat.
I saw someone on an earlier video saying he used to squat a lot when he was a teen and had a squat in the 700's or something like that. But apparently he injured his leg or something? Don't know if that's correct or not but according to what I've read that's why he doesn't do super heavy squats any more. But again, that's just what I've read, don't quote me on it cuz it might be BS...
He just said on the power cast that he does not squat anymore because of an old injury that comes back every time me squats heavy. But he squatted 675 at 16 years old
+dubson965 an inner thigh injury due to dropping into the hole on Olympic style squats. He mentioned that he was training with box squats and when he took the box away there was nothing to stop him on the way down so he ended up tearing his inner thigh muscles. That's what initially prompted him to start dieting in the first place
dubson965 A lot of people drop into the hole on squats and they are fine. George just got unlucky I think. Also, he has been doing controlled touch and go deadlifts since forever. Anyway, the podcast can be found simply by searching: "george leeman powercast"
My bros like that he broke both of his pinkies and doesn't know how :/
Damn give his ass some water hahaha jk but he's hella strong
Stop assuming everyone knows the answer, try to explain the thought processes simpler, thanks
his hands are not that weak lol
erection detection, new video
got cardio bruh, I also get tired just from talking
Why is George always out of breath when talking?
+smigelfitz 350 pounds
true :)
Yea ^ If you listen to the powercast on podcast with him, he talks about it. He was as heavy as almost 400 lbs at one point and said he couldn't even sleep it got so bad. He also sweats profusely. I have the same problem I'm naturally like a 150lb dude so being over 230lbs now after the years of mass gaining and lifting I have high blood pressure and sweat no matter the temperature
+Harlan Brent If you're naturally skinny and are at 230 now you must be on some supps. George is too obviously. Could that have something to do with the sweating thing?
+Tom Bugler yea I definitely ran a few 'supps' lol but no I mean I'm what you'd consider a 'half natty' haha I've ran some cycles to help get me here but I stay natural 90% of the time just eat a lot. I don't really think those supps are what cause it but I can't speak for George. I just know that carrying this much mass for my genetics is a lot so I sweat a lot and have high blood pressure
is Leeman's nickname really the babyslayer? that's... some... shit... bruh...
+Wodinn Could be because he kinda has a baby face...but has a beard, so I don't know.
His gf aint no baby so idk where that nickname came from. His girlfrienda big and strong AS hell
i thought eddie hall has the record
+diahys732 He's English.
+diahys732 Different country, different record. George holds the all time American Raw without straps, deadlift record. Eddie set his record at the World Deadlift Championships, which is a strongman competition. Different competitions and rules (strongmen can use straps and hitch the bar, it's all about getting the weight up).
didnt look like a lock out on the record lift
Condescending?
+Bobby Cage Condescending? don't comment just to switch feet troll.
+Bobby Cage Do you even understand what switch feet means you ignoramus? All I was pointing out was your contradiction. Stupid ass.
Are you gay? you sound gay.
Wodinn
Sooooo you were referring to my comments else where? That have nothing to do with this?
Making stalker gains.
+Bobby Cage omg, you idiot. I need to take this as a lesson. I have to remember not to engage with idiots on youtube.
Fuck your too dumb for words.
Wodinn
*you're
Calling the kettle black much?
