      Harbor freight is great for weekend hobbyist who make small jewelry boxes, bird houses and the occasional piece of furniture as well the DIYer who needs a tool for a specific purpose knowing very well that it will break with too much use but will last long enough for the project.

    This is a beautiful piece and I’ve loved watching it…but this is why I’d use nice plywood for these parts. 😁 So much work! But then again it pushes one’s skills forward so maybe it is a great idea.

    I have your first bookcase project and the hybrid workbench project, even though this is not a project I would build for myself, so far it seems like it is guild worthy. Maybe as more episodes drop it may become more apparent why you decided not to sell this one. I know TH-cam (and you) have changed, but I miss seeing the more detailed builds on the TH-cam side. Thank you for posting the videos.
    With the assortment of parallel clamps you have, it is interesting to see you using the Harbor Freight clamps.
    I have tried several of the second-tier brands and all except the Irwin started slipping after very little use.
    I have been committed to ferreting out good sales on the Bessey parallel clamps for about three years now.

    So glad you decided to put this out there free instead of in the guild. It’s a great insight to what is offered in the guild though. I’m really loving this build.
    I don’t have a jack plane or shoulder plane. LOL. But I can tell I dont need them. I have a piece I plan on building for my kitchenette. This is giving me lots of ideas for it.

    Hi great project. Not a great amount of experience here, so maybe a silly question. I have a question on the design, not questioning it by any means, but just curious about something and your thoughts. On the bottom web frame, you have the Front and Rear Web Frame Rail Lower oriented on their "flat" side. You obviously think that that will give enough downward strength rather than something on their edge between the legs? Just curious, is it possibly because the dividers will connect the upper and lower also?

    Great video, Marc~! This piece is really looking good. I've got a trivial Domino newb question: The domino stock that I've seen on the web appears to be Beech. I noticed that the ones you're using in this project are darker than usual blonde Beech. Did you color them (dye/stain?) or are they hardwood that matches (Walnut)? I've seen guys that make their own stock, but the ones you're using have the look of the regular dominos. Thanks much~!

    • @woodwhisperer
      @woodwhisperer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those are the Sipo dominos Festool sells for outdoor furniture. amzn.to/3uLIwzD Years ago they sent me some samples and since I rarely build outdoor pieces, I just use whatever dominos are closest at the time, whether beach or Sipo. I'd rather use them up before purchasing new beech Dominos.

    Hey Marc! Random question for you. What do you use to mark walnut? I've tried chalk (too wide) and white charcoal pencils (from Staples - useless). My eyes aren't what they used to be, so pencil is out too. Thanks!

    I picked up a slab of walnut that was way better looking than I expected, I didn’t realize that the natural color of walnut is nothing like “walnut” stain, there are reds and greens and purples. Hopefully you will use or recommend a finish that changes the natural look as little as possible.

    • @jeffreylyons1531
      @jeffreylyons1531 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Rubio monocoat looks fantastic on walnut, any natural/unpigmented finishes will look great. I agree with you, walnut stain doesn’t match walnut at all.

    • @inmyimage1081
      @inmyimage1081 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jeffreylyons1531 I’ve seen people talk about RMC but it appears to be a multi-part system that uses different components like an epoxy. I’m really just getting started and after seeing this, my wife is changing her mind about projects we weren’t even planning to use walnut for so I’ll definitely be researching it more.

    • @kurtBick
      @kurtBick 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Agreed, Rubio looks great! I've used air-dried walnut before and it has a lot of those gorgeous colors. The only thing I will warn you about is that over the course of a couple years it has lost a lot of the color and is more of your typical walnut brown now. Still looks gorgeous, just manage your expectations for the way the color will stick around.

    • @inmyimage1081
      @inmyimage1081 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kurtBick Did the finish have a uv inhibitor? I’ve heard that about fresh walnut but haven’t heard frozen anyone who said their finish had a uv inhibitor in it.

      @@inmyimage1081 I'm not too sure. That info might be on Rubio's website? I think most modern finishes do but I'm not overly well studied on the subject.
