In 1963 I was drafted into the Brazilian army and sent to Brasilia, to be in the Battalion of the Presidential Guards. After leaving the army, one year later, I decided to stay in Brasilia for a while, taking a job at a travel agency. While there I learned a few things: The shape of Brasilia as an airplane has more meanings. Like an airplane, the president's office seats on the left, as an airplane captain's place. On the right the co-pilot, the Supreme Court and, in the middle, the National Congress, as the navigator, while the ministers, the flight engineers, are located along the huge avenue behind the Congress. Airplanes carry their fuel in the wings, which is where the fuel of the nation sits, the people and commerce. The National Cathedral has the same number of columns at the number of states at the time, all joining at the top, as hands in prayer. Niemeyer, in charge of the most building architecture, was a believer in communism and, in its early days, Brasilia was quite that way. I lived in a very nice apartment having for neighbors a senator, next to me, and a congressman one floor up. The difference was that they paid no rent. Brasilia is very dry but at times, like I remember, thunderstorms were epic. I remember one during which I had to stop the car because the wipers couldn't keep up with the rain. As it stopped in a few minutes, I drove about 100 yards, the ground was dry, and the sun was shining as if rain had never fallen. I like Brasilia.
Also, Lucio costa, responsible for the iconic Brasília "airplane" shape, didn't like it to be called that way, instead he insisted that the city was inspired by a cross ( I don't know if it was because religion).
I´ll write in English for the foreigners to read as well but thanks for the insight into the meaning of the positions of the buildings. I would never know that otherwise. As someone from Brasilia living abroad, it’s amazing watching your video. Seeing so much of the everyday life in my beloved hometown brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for this 🫶
This video made such a justice for Brasília! Even Brazilians from other parts of the country use to say Brasília is ugly and uninteresting, but once you get to know how locals live and have fun, it turns into a very warm and vibrant city. It is true the car-centered design of the city makes things harder, especially for tourists, but also the flat relief is very inviting for a relaxing bike ride. Besides all the video has shown, other places I would highly recommend for visitors are Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil and the central park. Not to mention the mountains, waterfalls and historical cities few hours far from the city.
You forgot to mention the main person responsible for the Brasília project, urban planner Lúcio Costa, who won the public competition that chose the project for the new capital.
Great video! I'm from Rio and never have been to Brasília! Our country is so big that it is impossible to know everything. The only thing I didn't understand was why you used Caribbean music as the soundtrack since Brazilian musical culture is so rich.

I love Brasília. I am from Rio de Janeiro and lived in Brasília for a couple of years while getting my Master's degree at the University of Brasília. It is a wonderful place to visit, especially in the rainy season when the Dry Garden at the Central Institute of Sciences is in full bloom. To truly experience Brasília, you should stay in the residential area to feel the city's atmosphere and understand Lúcio Costa's vision. The residential areas, known as 'superquadras,' are large blocks designed to promote a sense of community and provide ample green space. They reflect modernist principles, focusing on functionality, simplicity, and integration with nature. Despite the car-centric design of the 1960s, many amenities are within walking distance of any superquadra. Brasília is the unique 20th-century city awarded UNESCO World Heritage status for its innovative urban planning.
It is a wonderful sense of community seeing the absurdity of tons of unused spaces while the city is filled with homeless people, surrounded by slums and the rents are among the highest in the whole country.

Maybe the brazilians who talked to you about Festa Junina didn't know that, but it isn't JUNE Festival, it is Saint John's Festival (it was called Festa Joanina or Festa de São JOão, until it became Festa Junina).

This is great. If you were able to do it about Brazil, surely your videos about another country did the same. All will whatch your another videos from your channel.
In the midst of struggles that come from corruption, Brazilians still find their way to a joyful life. This was a great representation of my country - Modernism, the Cerrado, Forró, 'maldita pinga,' barbecue, and even the stray dog that comes with it, popularly known as Caramelo. Haha, thank you for this wonderfull video!
I'm from Brasilia and I loved the video, it's my city so I'm very passionate about it. I was born and raised there but I've been living in Espirito Santo for 5 years now, and if you have the chance you should defintely visit this state, it's so beautiful. PS: Brasilia is a car centered city but the bus system is really good and we also have a subway that is amazing, both of these really help with the whole commuting logistics
It showed well the popular cultural life of Brasília. I believe that only 2 points were missing, the Palácio do Alvorada, residence of the Presidency of the Republic, and reputed as one of the most emblematic architectural works in Brasilia, and more often than not, the most important together with the Cathedral. And a mention of chorinho, Brasília is a current reference in terms of chorinho.
Every single time I saw someone pouring a glass of ParaTudo I said a little prayer for the poor souls that would drink it. That thing is the strongest liquor I have ever tasted in my life! But it is one great video. I hope you get to visit other non mainstream places in Brazil. This is one great, very diverse country, and most tourist only get to know Rio and São Paulo. And with only getting to know only those 2 cities, the country get a reputation outside that really does not represent what amazing places we have here. have a nice trip and congratulations on an amazingly well made video.
6:52 If the beer isn't super cold, you can ask to change it. And the commercial establishment will close because in Brazil no one likes hot beer because of the heat. The beer has to be almost frozen.
The capital of Brazil was once Rio de Janeiro, but to avoid naval invasions they moved the capital to the center of the country, and yes, Rio de Janeiro was invaded in 1711 by the French, after that forts were built in the city's bay and later the capital moved to the center of the country in 1960
I'm from Brasília. Some people that come to Brasília are focused to study and try some job in the government. The most of cities are planned, so you're gonna find areas divided for shops, houses, apartments, hotels, offices. That's why you need a car to enjoy the city.
I was born and raised in Brasilia, and I love the city. I miss it so much! I live in the US now and miss sitting in a plastic chair in a boteco and sharing a litrão with friends! I was expecting a video of the tourist places, but I am enchanted that you brought some places only locals would know! I hope you had a great time in my city! Thank you for sharing it in this incredible video!!

So nice when foreign people are respectful and careful with details (traditions, history)! Great video.
Brasília is car-centric, but it also has cycle paths and buses that connect the entire city so you can get around even if you don't have a car
Sure, but it's not walkable, it doesn't have walkable neighborhoods, that's the current global trend she mentioned. Also, no metro?
@@WildVoltorbthat’s just in the central region that the government planned , the rest of the city is just like any other city in Brazil
@@WildVoltorb you're misinformed... it does have a metro web and side-streets all around it!!!
@WildVoltorb it has metro, but it goes basically in a straight line, connecting the central part to a satellite city
@@vitorhegermann”the rest of the city” 😂😂 It’s not walkable, thus it’s terrible for pedestrians.
Feinha
Good video but in the next , talk about the beatiful parks in the city like "parque olhos d'água" , "Parque da cidade", very pleasant living areas.
Another excellent suggestion is the "Ermida Dom Bosco" place where it is possible to have the flattest view of the city from Lake Paranoá and discover the story about "Dom Bosco's dream vision" is told, which foretold the city centuries ago in a prophetic dream.
P.S : I just do not urderstand the word "bizarre" to clickbait.
P.S. 2: Mexican soundtrack was "bizarre" kkkkk
Congratualations and thanks for talking so well by my city! She’s realy looks like it. And “espetinhos” are ours jewells.
A great city to live. Lived all my life in Brasília and I love it, awesome video!
Linda fotografia do vídeo!
Like a very famous singer in Brasil say "Estou indo para Brasília, nesse país lugar melhor não há"
Well…. CHeck your facts ! Lol
Very good video! it showed Brasilia as it is. but there are still many things for you to discover. much love from Brasília!
I am from Brasília, you did a very good job showing a bit of the city and it's people. Again, great job!
I live in Sergipe, the smaller state up here in Brazil, but I’ve been in there for four times. It’s an amazing place, where I can find different people from all over the country and there you feel really at home.
Amei como mostrou a brasília fora do Plano Piloto. Congrats for that!
Mudei para Brasília em 1995. Ficarei por aqui.
I live in Brasília for more than 20 years and I loved your video and perspective! Thank you so much for showing our beautiful and intriguing city to the world! It is an amazing overview! ✨❤️✨
Produção muito bem executada. Acho que melhor do que muita produção do próprio brasil. Parabéns pelo excelente conteúdo. Muito primoroso.
great video! Brasilia is indeed unknown, even for Brazilians.
btw... it was probably non-intended, but it came out really strange to listen to MAMBO (latin non Brazilian musical genre) in the middle of the video. hehe
Produção de altíssimo nível. Parabéns 👏👏👏
I am from Brasilia, did u guys have any time to checkout the valley of the dawn (Vale do Amanhecer)? Is really a cool place to know
Maybe the brazilians who talked to you about Festa Junina didn't know that, but it isn't JUNE Festival, it is Saint John's Festival (it was called Festa Joanina or Festa de São JOão, until it became Festa Junina).
Such great job you guys did about the city. Gonna watch more of your works now. Godspeed
Not only you showed my city but also my neighborhood Riacho Fundo II that's awesome 🤗🤗
Representing lol
You represented in a very realistic way about our culture and costumes, without ANY stereotype. Showed the reality in a good way. I loved your experience with a genuine boteco and our forro. This is great. If you were able to do it about Brazil, surely your videos about another country did the same. All will whatch your another videos from your channel.
This video is excellent! Lenza really knows brasília best stuff.
You became Brazilian very quickly. :)
I do love it in Brazil!
WOW just the way you showed the country was amazing, great editing, and places , love it
It showed well the popular cultural life of Brasília.
Congratulations on the video! I'm from Brasília, and you show our region and culture in a very honest way.
Your content is topnotch. Love from Hyderabad, India.
You guys should go to Pirinopolis!! It’s really worth a visit!!
Ótimo vídeo. Ganhou um novo inscrito.
This is the best view of a foreigner about Brasilia. Congrats on this work
6:52 If the beer isn't super cold, you can ask to change it. And the commercial establishment will close because in Brazil no one likes hot beer because of the heat. The beer has to be almost frozen.
Great job! You really took the Brasilia mood!!
The capital of Brazil was once Rio de Janeiro, but to avoid naval invasions they moved the capital to the center of the country, and yes, Rio de Janeiro was invaded in 1711 by the French, after that forts were built in the city's bay and later the capital moved to the center of the country in 1960
Perfeito! É FUTEBOL!
Saude! Haha Piaui ihuu ❤
such a good video bout Brasília, ive been getting those experiences since I was born, 26y
