      @Zoomer Stasi actually it is a comic book. In the early 1930s, when Conan was created, they were just stories. In the 70s it went into graphic novel/comic book form also. In early 80s it became a movie. So, by the time it was a film it had been an established comic book.

    You guys are a bit off on the details. The big machine they chained young Conan was a mill where the slaves turned a giant millstone to grind grain. Then when Conan got bigger the master of the mill sold him to the red haired guy who then threw Conan into the gladiator fights with no training at all. But Conan still managed to keep winning. Over time the red haired master became proud/fond of Conan and saw him as more than just a slave or gladiator. That’s why he got all the teaching and training later. As a reward. That’s also why he was set free suddenly because the red haired master didn’t want Conan to perish in the gladiator pits. Also there are 2 swords. Thulsa Dooms lieutenant kept the sword from the beginning. That’s the sword Conan broke and then used to kill Thulsa Doom. The sword Conan found in the crypt was an Atlantean king’s sword. And in the original book the skeleton reanimated and fought Conan when he touched it. The girls name was Valeria but it was never mentioned in the movie.

    So Oliver Stone wrote the original screenplay, but it was way different, and going to be super expensive. John Milius, the director, did the Dirty Harry movies.
    And I found out yesterday the condor that Conan bit and killed on the Tree of Woe wasn't just a prop. It was apparently a dead Condor, and Schwarzenegger had to rinse his mouth out right after to prevent him from getting any disease.
    Also Subatai was just a surfer pal of John Milius's. He cast him for the movie.
    "This guy looks familiar." That's Darth Vader, which is ironic that he called Conan his son first, and tried to get him to join him.
    Also Valeria came back as a Valkyrie to help Conan because Crom answered his prayer.

    • @awesomereviews1561
      @awesomereviews1561 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is nothing ironic about Thulsa calling Conan his son. Conan The Barbarian is an adaptation of Nietzsche’s “Will of Power” and “the Uberman”. Thulsa’s action made Conan in what he is today. Conan would be a normal man without Thulsa Doom. Thulsa gave him the Will of Power, the motivation to go above and beyond what a normal man can do. To become that “Uberman” you must “kill” ( or renounce) your love ( when Conan leaves Valeria), your Gods ( To Hell with You Crom) and your father ( Thulsa Doom molded him) .

  • @TheAes86
    @TheAes86 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Animal rights activists actually protested the film back then because of the animal scenes, including "punching a camel."
    His dad's sword was the one held by Doom's henchman and Conan broke it, proving Thulsa's point on The Riddle of Steel.
    And Valeria actress Sandahl Bergman was a broadway actress and dancer as well. Appeared in "All that Jazz" about Broadway producer Ray Fosse and more importantly as a muse in the movie Musical Xanadu with Olivia Newton-John wearing a tattered skirt and roller skating half the movie.

    Conan, and the other slaves, were slaves. They weren't being trained. All of them died pushing the wheel. Conan loved. Then, he was sold to the redhead guy to be fodder in a fight. But, Conan won. And, he kept winning. Well, the guy stumbled upon a natural born warrior. So, he was trained, educated, and bred out to women. Like gladiators, a slave in this world could earn his freedom.
    This movie is great. The gore. The blood. The simplicity. And, the music is epic.

    There was going to be a third Conan the Conqueror... in 2019 Arnold Schwarzenegger said he's still desperate to make the 3rd film CTC but it's being held up due to complications over rights... Sigh... looks like we're Not going to see this anytime soon, there wild talks of a tv series like GOT in the works, like even...again sigh, if Netflix or Prime takes this puts Arnold as the King, and a young Conan for newer updated yet hold true to the story, I'd see that.

    It was written by John Millius, A conservative possibly a Republican. He liked guns, surfing, and the military. He wrote Apocalypse Now. This story breaks down to a Rich Liberal who's daughter joined a hippie cult, and hires a Merc to retrieve his daughter.🤣 I don't lie. Subotai is Gerry Lopez. The most badass surfer. They call a Mr. Pipeline from Hawaii. Remember there was surfing in Apocalypse Now.

    This is the best fantasy/comic book movie of its time. Many such movies were made and didn’t come off as well as this one. I think Arnold brings something to all his movies that people love. It was done in s perfect environment for the story. The props and special effects were done with real people and real materials because no one had CGI abilities back then. I think that’s what makes it so good. You just can’t beat the real thing. Plus Arnold was perfection at the time he had 6 Mr. Olympia wins so he was jacked. They used a lot of his body builder friends too. When someone is that strong looking it’s more believable that they can fight and do incredible things. One thing a lot of people don’t know is that Arnold’s buddy Schwa was in ALL of his movies in small supporting roles. Once you notice him, you will spot him in all Arnold’s movies He didn’t know any English at all so Arnold had to explain everything and
    never had more than a few lines but he was always there. I spelled his name wrong it’s Sven-Ole

    Music score is exceptional for this movie! Arnold has never been a great actor, but he somehow gets the job done. He was perfect for the role of Conan. Another thing that set this movie apart from others is it was R rated, so many movies are, at best PG-13 and toned down so that they can get the early teen movie dollars. This movie was not afraid to have nudity or graphic bloody violence.

      Not a "great" actor, but certainly a capable one. He's legitimately good in *True Lies.* He's honestly at his best when he stretches himself beyond the action hero schtick and plays his characters more offbeat and goofy.

    a visual masterpiece. the second movie, unfortunately falls into the category of cheap sequels. by the way, they made a new conan, with jason momoa. total failure. after the first 15 minutes, i put it on speed frame.Then I just stopped it. some things are just unbearable. (like Disney's new star wars, for example).

    It's a nearly perfect film, and epic adventure with many side adventures, with excellent performances by a host of actors, brilliant action scenes, extremely creative, and amazing musical score. Among the best films ever made. If you like this check out the Beastmaster made the year before. It's less well known but just as good for different reasons.

    The way Conan should be, R rated & practically swimming in blood.
    The Tomb scene is the one I always wonder about. Was that or was that NOT the tomb of king Kull (AKA Kull the Conqueror)? At the time this flick was made Marvel owned the rights to both Conan & Kull. They implied very heavily in the comics & SSoC magazine that Kull was Conans ancestor. So if it was Kulls tomb, it makes it poetic the Conan would use Kulls sword to kill Thulsa Doom, doing what his ancestor was unable to. In the lore Thulsa Doom is Kulls foe, not Conans (Thoth Amon is Conans). On the DVD/Blu ray of that scene it's called "the Atlanteans Kings Tomb" or some such.
    Conan was wise to pray indirectly to Crom. In the lore Crom takes a dim view of those who pray directly to him. His thinking goes like something like this, "I gave you what you needed to survive & thrive when you were born." Asking for "more" afterward, even if only temporary, is greedy in Croms eyes. Annoy him enough, he might actually curse you rather then hearing your plea.
    As for the riddle of steel, we never knew Conans take on it. I guess that was left for us, as the audience, to decide.
