Foreigners SHOCKED by MASSIVE BBQ in The Philippines! 🇵🇭

  • Today we were on a quest to find some more Filipino food to try so we decided to look for a place that had crispy pata! We found a place called Mesa and it looked really good so we decided to go check it out! Little did we know what we were in for...
After asking for the crispy pata we were informed that they don't have it... sad. So instead, we opted for the Bangus, which they also didn't have along with not having Halo Halo either.
But we still ordered some BBQ foods that were really delicious and the waiter, who was super friendly, brought a complimentary vegetable dish that was also pretty good aside from the one weird vegetable in it...

Lol 😂 That first veggie you ate was bitter melon, it’s bitter but very nutritious. The second one was squash (yellow color), if I’m not mistaken, then the one you said Zucchini was actually the eggplant, and that “pea pod” was actually the Okra (ladies’ finger)😅, which is rich in antioxidants.
The dish is called *”Pakbet/Pinakbet”.* Very delicious and nutritious! ❤

The bitter one was ampalaya or bittergourd and the slimy one with seeds is okra or lady fingers which i think has the same nutritional values as brocolli. They should also try sauteed squash with shrimps, coconut milk and malunggay leaves. So delicious and nutritious.

The vegetable dish you ate is called PINAKBET. It has shrimp paste in it that’s probably why you find the taste weird. The big green vegetable that has a bitter taste is Ampalaya or bitter gourd.

Don't be afraid to try Filipino foods, you'll find most of them safe, mild and palatable. Some tastes may surprise you but you just have to acquire the taste for them. That's how you learn cuisines. Tip, use calamansi and soy sauce on most of the Filipino dishes. Soup like tinolang manok, sinigang na hipon, bulalo are the best. Cheap desserts like nilupak, bibingka with latik, buko pandan, etc will satisfy you. Enjoy...

Thanks for featuring Filipino food and culture in your blogs. I just noticed many of those you've been featuring are the same food like the chicken and lumpiang Shanghai. If you're running out of ideas, try the more exotic Filipino food like papaitan (with goats bile), caldereta, kilawing kambing, laing (Gabi leaves with coconut milk), Bicol express, Ginataang langka, ginisang monggo, molo soup, soup number five, etc. You can ask the waiter or manager what combo you should try. The safest way to do this is find popular restaurants that serve those dishes to avoid food poisoning. Or make your small research on TH-cam like the blogs of "uncultured" which also features Filipino food in the US. Good luck and keep safe guys.

I really enjoy your videos, but you seem to have boxed yourself in by eating the same or similar dishes (like barbeque) in restaurants. There's a lot more variety of dishes you have try- bulalo, sinigang, dinugoan, adobo, aroz caldo, ginataang gulay, etc.
Hopefully you get to try all of these amazing dishes the more you explore the country. Keep up the good work.
