They didn't just flip Penguin's gender, they also flipped her personality. The traditional Penguin has a lot of resentment about how his family is looked down upon by other rich families and he really wants to be a legitimate member of high society but he's awkward around them. This Penguin is very comfortable in high society and mingles well with them, but she still keeps those illicit dealings like the traditional Penguin. A lot of previous versions of the Penguin also had overbearing mothers. This version is an awful mother who killed her own son. Also, the female reporter at 8:47 looks exactly like the Fleischer Lois Lane.
Batman was not using the gun to scare Flask. He was pissed and upset his good friend died. He unloads the round and throws the gun. I think it adds a more human element to the character that adds a bit more depth.
Yeah look that's fair but I still feel like if they were going to have Batman hold the gun he shouldn't have shot it, the best example of Batman ever holding a gun is honestly Batman Beyond where he realizes what he is done and drops the gun

Batman in Batman beyond is much older and not in his prime anymore, he is getting his ass handed to him and he turned to a last resort which was the gun. Whilst this one is born of rage and something much more personal. It is one thing if he actually shot him, but he didn’t. As long as the key morals of the character are in tact, I don’t mind how they push Batman and his beliefs. That’s why I prefer this over something like man of steel.
The Catwoman episode and Nocturne are probably my favorites of the show. I also really like what they did with Eel O’Brien being a photographer that Batman uses to put Catwoman. I hope he’ll become plastic man in the show at some point but I doubt it
I really enjoyed what this show did with Harley Quinn, making her more darker and her own villain. But that said her episode wasn't great but could've easily been so had they done two things. First have Bruce Wayne be one of her captives. I mean seriously why didn't they go that route? What was the point of having Dr Harleen Qunizel be Bruce Wayne's therapist? I it would've been a dark compelling story watching Batman trying to overcome torture and brainwashing. Second, I think it having Montoya instead of Barbara would've made more sense personally. Also why didn't they make Barbara a cop or PI? I mean she's involved with more investigations, high speed chases and shot outs than lawyers business.
Do you think the show would’ve done better with more episodes? In the DCAU days each season had 13 episodes but nowadays animation is only 8 or 10. For me that’s just to few, and can make a season feel rushed. It works for Invincible because each episode is almost an hour long but with shorter run times they need more episodes. If they had we could’ve gotten more development on the Harley Quinn plot or given Bruce more than one episode with Harvey before becoming Two-Face.
I didnt mind batman using the gun in that context it shows that even though a gun was used to murder his parents he still trained on how to use it without killing somebody hence why the bullets missed flask because he did it on purpose and you still show batmans hatred for guns later on when he throws it into the ocean
Also a lot of other Dc characters appear in this show like Eel O'Brian (Plastic Man), Jim Corrigan (The Spectre), and Jack Ryder (The Creeper). And if you want to review anonther DC animated show that is still ongoing and rank every episode, I reccommend My Adventures With Superman on Max.
I will probably get into that show when the next season comes out because I'm needing to check it out and yeah I did notice those names after a first watch actually
So, I was always intrigued but cautiously optimistic about the show. The trailers never really blew me away and I haven't really been a fan of Bruce Timm's recent work so I was a bit trepidatious about watching it. After having seen the whole show, sadly I did not think it was particularly worth the the wait. I didn't think the show was bad at all, but sadly the way I would describe it is as disappointingly average. The pacing I thought was extremely inconsistent and at times didn't even feel like a Batman show and instead felt more like Gotham Central. Batman as a character I didn't find nearly as compelling in any of the previous Batman anime that shows and while I thought Hamish Linklater's Bruce Wayne voice was really great, his Batman voice I thought it was extremely stiff and at times felt like a parody. Most of the conflicts with the villains always felt like they came to a very rushed anti-climactic conclusion that never left me wanting for more. The runtime of a lot of the episodes also felt unnecessarily short and with it being on a streaming service it was unnecessary. Also one thing I was worried about from the trailers was the animation seemed a bit underwhelming and having seen the show in its entirety I still feel completely this way. The animation is consistently pretty lacklustre. Characters stay completely frozen, the frame rate is extremely inconsistent (and not in an artistic way) , the CG cars can be distractingly rendered most of the time and just generally the characters seem to lack a sense of fluidity whenever they move. The background paintings of Caped Crusader however are really great though. The character I was most looking forward to seeing in the show and one I thought Caped Crusader handled far better than BTAS is Catwoman. BTAS I always felt had a very disappointing Catwoman and focused too much on her being an animal activist than the classic cat burglar aspect of the character and I always disliked that in BTAS she didn't regard Bruce Wayne and was only interested in Batman because in the comics Catwoman was always attracted to both Bruce and Batman, which thankfully they did in Caped Crusader. Although I still think by far the best animated Catwoman is the one voiced by Gina Gershon in The Batman 2004.
I loved what they did with the penguin here. She gives off immense cruella de vil and Ursula vibes, especially when we get that first look of her on the iceberg lounge. She fits the show very well, my other favorite villain in this show is definitely firebug, i love the scene where he first puts on his mask and he sees the world on fire, with all the people walking around and the children playing, it was genuinely a phenomenal shot

Just finished watching it. It's not the best Batman series I've watched, but I really like it for what it is. The Clayface, Nocturna and Two-Face episodes were great though. Overall, I'd say a 7/10.
Honestly loved it. Some shoddy animation, but I figured they're doing what they need to do to keep the budget low. Hamish Linklater is a fantastic Bruce Wayne, though I do think his Batman could use a little work. Bader killed it as Two-Face and I like this twist on Catwoman. Excited for season 2. I really hope we get to see The Question pop up, whether it's Vic Sage or they skip straight to Montoya. He/She NEEDS to be in this canon.
I wonder what villains will be in season 2. I hope Mr Freeze is portrayed in a way that is respectful to the source material but yet has its own distinct identity. I wonder if he would have his silver age suit from Batman #121 in February 1959.

This will be the closest to BTAS when it’s all said and done, I give the first season a 9.5/10! Can’t say I agree with you that Harlem and Renee look similar, aside from their clothes, facial structures and body types are different. I’ve always appreciated your takes! Firebug is an original character from the comics that came out after Firefly canonically, I belive they planned on using firefly for a different season because they want to keep the character alive.

I enjoyed caped crusader though I did have issues with how unlikable Harvey was which I felt undercut the tragedy of his transformation. I also wasn't a fan of how rude Bruce was to Alfred, like calling him Pennyworth like Damien Wayne, thought I know that was the point for Bruce's character to develop. And I agree on the CGI car's being distracting

And the second step back-if Caped Crusader were actually about serving the story, then Oswalda wouldn’t fail the Bechdel test. That’s why there’s only just a thoroughly emasculated Penguin, and a “new” version of Harley Quinn that’s actually just Punchline in disguise. Because Caped Crusader doesn’t serve the story the Batman legacy deserves. Aside from that, the animation the voice casting and all the rest of it are great. Just a major missed opportunity. If you enjoy that, then that’s great and I’m glad there’s a Batman show that caters to you. There’s no shortage of content I can enjoy rewatching anyway. I could go into more detail, likely several dissertations could be written on the subject. For the time being, I’ll enjoy a dose of the woke which is handled much more effectively and hilariously in the upcoming season of Harley Quinn instead of watching season 2 of this show. The show opts to further its story by stealing clout instead of provide genuine characterization. That’s why there’s only just a thoroughly emasculated Penguin, and a “new” version of Harley Quinn that’s actually just Punchline in disguise. Because Caped Crusader doesn’t serve the story the Batman legacy deserves.
Aside from that, the animation the voice casting and all the rest of it are great. Just a major missed opportunity.
If you enjoy that, then that’s great and I’m glad there’s a Batman show that caters to you. There’s no shortage of content I can enjoy rewatching anyway.
I could go into more detail, likely several dissertations could be written on the subject. For the time being, I’ll enjoy a dose of the woke which is handled much more effectively and hilariously in the upcoming season of Harley Quinn instead of watching season 2 of this show.
