Thanks for the great work! Both content and production value is top-notch. It’s detailed and in-depth but also easy to follow. Also love the time stamps!
This was GREAT! Are you planning on dropping more guides like this on the rest of the leaders? We need more guides like this! As a new player it is really hard to estimate which choice, of all available, is the best one in any given situation. I find myself often struggling with a bit of a paralysis when faced with all the options this game tend to provide. This guide provided so much. LOVED IT! Great work! Hope to see more of this :)
Quality analysis, excellent editing and valuable strategies! Great work Orski and Lannister! Prince Rhombur is one of my favourite characters (F tier or not!) and I will always cheer for whoever plays him.
I hated Rhombur initially but my buddy got me into playing with him. We strategized over what moves and etc were extensively to make him work. I feel naked not playing him now haha.
Great stuff; don't have many games in but learning from the masters is invaluable. For an F-tier character, then Lannister calling him a high skill character makes sense, after learning about the turn/action compression and the subtleties with certain tech and Imperium row cards.
Hello. I would love to see similar IN DEPTH guides for the other understimated leaders. Yes - Especially the ones that are not S or A tiers. Stuff like B and C tier in depths, so that we can master the underdogs and do great things against Baron, Duke and Helena players and give them hard time at the tables, or even take them the win with the understimated character;) "Winning is not everything, but certainly feels great ;) ;) " If I have to pick - would relly love to see stuff for Hundro and Yuna... ;) Cheers, Orski, keep up the great work! Amazing content here! Glad I found the channel.
May I ask for a little clarification? At around 17:17 you guys say that one can get 12 combat power just by going to Imperial Basin, I suppose by deploying both Deadnoughts. But on page 6 of the rulebook it says that "[...] Dreadnoughts provide strength even if you have no troops in a Conflict - your strength does not become 0, your swords still count, and you may play Combat Intrigue cards." So one could get 12 power even without deploying the dreadnoughts, or have I been reading this rule wrong all the time? Amazing video by the way, I've been learing a lot by watching this!
The troop is in reference to the cubes, while dreadnoughts and cubes are referred to as units. The distinction is important because there are certain intrigues or cards that interact with that difference. So for example Desert Ambush requires you to use troops (the cubes) to deploy into combat and allows you to kick out units (dreadnoughts or cubes). When we described the 12 combat strength, going to imperial basin does not generate any troops (cubes) so you are only allowed to deploy 2 units (dreadnoughts or units) from the garrison. So if you deployed 2 of Rhombur's Dreadnoughts you would have 4+4 , strength of 8 with another 4 from the Restricted Ordanance Tech for a total of 12
Thanks!! Unfortunately you’ve been playing that rule incorrectly - the dreadnoughts have to be deployed to the conflict to provide the combat power. “Dreadnoughts provide strength even if you have no troops in conflict” means that you don’t have to have a dreadnought AND troop(s) in order for the dreadnoughts combat power to count (you can send the dreadnoughts in by themselves).
Nice work guys. I'm excited to try these strategies. Can you share who you're thinking the next Leader will be to get a deep dive? CJ and Memnon? Black Shadow and Paul?
Loved this video. Thanks for the interview Orski and Lannister thanks for sharing so much good advice! Strategy question. Do you ever consider it viable to fight for and exclude others from the shipping track early game and set yourself up with dreadnoughts in the late game? His ring ability paired with a full descent on the shipping track can give 5 spice towards a tech. And between the 2 ixian engineers and the endgame card which rewards for 3 tech tiles, I have had this strategy pay off before. I play 2 games a week fairly regularly with friends and Rhombur became an underdog favorite, so I have some experience but surely not as many games as Lannister. My guess is his strategy is better (certainly opened my eyes to plays I hadn’t considered.) But since it was so foreign to how I played with Rhombur I wanted to ask if you ever considered or tried this strategy in the past. My ideal situation is to race shipping (while excluding others from its benefits), setting up with tech tiles and get 2nd dreadnought just before the level 3 conflicts begin.
Hi buck, thanks for watching the video. Its often very difficult to dominate the track with Rhombur unless you're very fortunate with cards or your opponents are very unlucky. In a game where there's a baron, Tessia, or Leto, you will not be able to exclude any of those from the shipping track unless of course the 1 is sitting directly behind you. The benefit of getting the 2 dreadnoughts early is that there are very few situations where people can deal with 8 combat strength(2x dreadnoughts) early to mid game. so if you have been laying the groundwork properly by turn 3 up to turn 6 you should be completely dominating the combats. At worst, you should be getting a lot of secondary rewards if someone somehow get a ton of troops say from highliner. unfortunately, most of the time you have to choose the following path: (1) ship persistently and periodically join a combat and win 1 every 3-4 rounds before being completely set up to win for turns 7-10 if it lasts that long (2) fight tirelessly from turn 2-6 and squeeze out a win on turn 7-8 for the win (3) go for a smf strat with some track climbing via holtmann engine and high council i think all 3 are viable in there own regard, but my style is option 2. I think being able to accurately gauge people's combat potential is much easier in the early stages than later stages and you are much less likely to run into weird high level combos like the Hundro special for instance (shipping track drop down on a combat space while using that shipping track bump to cross the emperor alliance for 2 additional troops). lemme know if you have anymore questions.
@@DenDen-jk8kt thanks for reading and for the thorough reply! I see your points for sure. My wins have definitely been more in the vein of route 1, but I hadn’t even considered route 2 and I’m excited to put some of your advice from this video into practice. I never considered the immediate first turn play of picking up the free extra troop tech. Or the saurdakur +++ with emperor track. Love the creativity in your thought process for those. Since you offered to answer another question, do you have a #1 tech for Rhombur? Invasion Ships is my #1 for its versatility with the shipping track. And if you can pair it with unload cards (like Ix Guild Compact) it can provide a lot of options. Really loved the vid and thanks again for the reply!
Great guide! Really interesting to listen to a in-depth discussion on an underplayed leader. I have a few questions, some that were hinted at but left me a little unclear: - since Rhombur is better in position 1 and 2, do you still go for the standard shipping plays? As in, Fold Space or Smuggling first to 'block' or Hardy Warriors first if there's a combat with a bump? - has the Immortality expansion changed the leader at all? Do you aim for the 'free' point or spend your cubes/research steps on other stuff? - how good are the 'bad'-low costed combat cards, namely Sardaukar Infantry, Scout, Spice Hunter and Arrakis Recruiter? These often don't get bought and I was wondering if a leader like Rhombur is interested in them.
Hi Gotuso, this is Lannister. Thanks for watching the video. Regarding your question, It depends on how confident and experienced you are with Rhombur. I don't always go fold space in position 1 or 2. Giving up interstellar shipping puts another player in power but it gives you breathing room for combat, they wont typically be joining in on the fight simply because they are spending the next 2-3 turns setting up their engine. i would say for a beginner always take foldspace, once you have awareness of combat capabilities and recovery mechanics do you deviate from this. Shipping is just far too consistent that you cannot give it up unless you have the means to earn a lot of early victories. (For the record i am notorious for giving up shipping to the person behind me, it pisses a lot of people off, even experienced players) never get sar infantry scout or recruiter unless you have artillery. spice hunter is is a valid choice for fremen access.
Still working on it 😅, those videos take soo much longer because I have to actually get good at the games - I finished the recording for the ark nova video tho so just gotta complete the editing now
