    It finally something fresh that has nothing to do with the Skywalker family line, and it tells a great story of a man we dont even know. Being able to connect to a silent, no-face man is a difficult thing to pull off, but they did it brilliantly.

      @@devilsadvocate4081 Thank you, people like to shit on Master Chief & more specifically Halo 4, but what 343 managed to do above all else was finally really humanize Chief, Halo 4 is actually my favorite Halo story, for precisely this reason. I think that one reason people didn't like it is because for the first time playing as the Master Chief finally made them feel vulnerable by extension of Cortana's decline into rampancy and the effect that would have on John-117 the man inside the armor. The man the player was actually playing, no longer an nameless, faceless avatar for their personal power-fantasy. Same thing with Kratos in God of War IV.

      Zerooskul stfu and stop spamming the same comment under every comment. And also, no it’s not a rip off, just because the wizard covers his fave literally does not mean it’s plagiarized. There have been so many characters with masks that it is highly unlikely that that specific character inspires the mandalorian, additionally, literally no one ever has heard of that comic unless you’re a triggered die hard fan (which I’m assuming you are), so I doubt it was a source Filoni or Favreau used in making the mandalorian. Finally, the comic itself was obviously inspired by western and old Asian stories, which happens to be what the mandalorian is inspired by, so more likely than not they were both inspired by the same thing. Regardless, idfk how you even remotely see this as plagiarism, yea they have similar protagonist at first, but the stories are completely different, I mean the wizard is from loosely connected comics by the same author.

    I think this show probably has some of the best worldbuilding in Star Wars outside of the games.
    And it's very similar to Mad Max where they give you a lot of info through context and action, as well as natural dialogue.
    The way they developed Mandalorian culture has been great. They don't tell you things outright but you know that the Mandalorians were defeated by the Empire and they're trying to rebuild their society. The beskar is sacred to them and the Empire stole it to fuel their war machine. And now the Imperial remnants are exploiting its importance to the Mandalorians, basically paying him with the ground up remains of his culture.

    The way the story of the Mandalorian is told reminds me so much of the Halo Trilogy of games. Master Chief is a helmeted badass that is very quiet and his feelings are distant to us and hard to interpret due to Steve Downes voice of the character, and not showing his face. Bungie used Chief as a blank slate for us to view the supporting cast and the universe. The way we take in Mando and Baby Yoda’s story is very similar, with Mando being somewhat distant and detached, and his blank slate nature allowing us to view the universe, and, of course, his interactions with Baby Yoda and the supporting cast. It’s brilliant and I think directors could definitely learn something from how those stories are told, and the Mandalorian being a smash hit proves it can be done, despite the fact that there is more difficulty telling this story than the Sequel Trilogy, where creative freedom was abundant.

    I got finished watching all 7 episodes that are out so far. Never thought i would feel the same way i did when i was leaving the the movies when i was about 5 years old june 2 1977. Now i do and it feels so great. I crave more from both the Mandalorian and the Child. I really like that he went back for the child. I really like that the other Mandalorians came to save him and the child. I had become emotional maybe 3 times vaders death jyn erso's death when han was frozen. I had not exposed myself to this new show and spoiled it so when he decided to go back for the child i did not expect that. I really thought he was going to move on and not have a conscious about it and maybe he would have been able to cross paths with the child somehow on another job soon? So yes as with all of us who watched the episode unspoiled we fell for this character. I have not even gone to the movies to see the rise of skywalker yet and i dont even care if i do. The Mandalorian also finally deals with the conflict between our collective love for the character of Boba Fett and the fact that Mr. Fett was actually kind of a tosser. By putting a finer point on a character that exploits the fun of ‘bounty hunting’ for fans and gives us all an excuse to fully throw in with the Mandalorian (like we always wanted to with Fett), it feels like the creators have really hit the perfect balance. (Outstanding job, by the way, by Films&Stuff for a stellar breakdown of these films - insightful af in my opinion, and thoroughly enjoyable.)

  • @DLYoung-bu5ui

    Whoa, hold up - just going by the original trilogy, Boba Fett kinda sucks.
    1.) He is not really that great of a bounty hunter - Vader is the one that actually captures his bounty
    2.) The one fight he takes part in within the original trilogy ends prematurely for him as a partially blind Han Solo accidently taps Fett's jetpack with a stick and sends him into the sarlacc pit...where he dies...
    I grew up watching these movies and never understood why anyone thought Boba was good in any way - he always came across as an absolute joke of the galaxy.

    • @Mysikrysa
      @Mysikrysa 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Haha! Yes, Boba is overrated. At least from what we see in the movies. His badassness is only told by rumours. He must be quite capable if Vader bothered to hire him, and that´s all. He is background character and never was supposed to be very important. He was like a cool-looking decoration. Then the fans loved his cool armor and jetpack and turned him into more important character than he was meant to be. Jango did more badass stuff in the prequels.
      But these jetpacks...they really bring misfortune!

      Boba teaching a Jedi to fight another Jedi sounds like total bullshit. What can a non-Force user teach a Force user? Force-user is always overpowered compared to "mere mortal", no matter how great fighting skills and funny gadgets in the armor the "mere mortal" has. Baby Yoda would kill Boba Fett if he wanted. :D

      Mysikrysa I can’t really comment much on her Legacy of the Force book, since I only read Bloodlines I think, and I’ll agree with you she Gary-Stu’d the crap out of Boba Fett, with the only feat that made at least some sense being that he added a beskar gorget to his armor to avoid getting killed via decapitation like his old man did, and a scene in the book actually did exactly that for him.
      The Republic Commando books though were pretty damn good IMO. Considering most of the history on Mandalorians before those books was based on KOTOR video games, it both fleshed out the culture over time and tied in a wide array of clone troopers and Mandalorian characters via explaining how Jango Fett (who was a Mandalorian in Legends) hired Mandalorians to help him train the clone commando’s through a combination of large sums of Kaminoan’s credits and tempting them with “training the next generation of warriors that will bring Mandalore back to a path of glory”.
      So while I’ll agree the Legacy of the Force books were meh, I certainly had plenty of praise for the Republic Commando series.

    whoooh, the analogy of him hiding himself into his armor and protecting himself from being "human" is very interesting. In the Murderbot diaries, (a wonderful sci fi book series) the titular character Murderbot also reflects on becoming more and more "human" after shedding their armor and having more and more encounters with other people while they as a being are very very introverted. They're terrified of becoming "human" they're dismissive of it, they struggle against it, because it makes them "weak" in their view. They learn more, more about the world and more about themselves, and so does Mando.

    My exposure to the Mandalorian is limited (due to my refusal to contribute to the over-saturation of online streaming services that will inevitably cause the entertainment industry to collapse under its own weight, but I digress), but based on what I've seen, masking Mando's face is a really good tactic. I don't remember the proper term for this so I'll just call it "constrained creativity" -- where the people behind an entertainment medium, such as film or video games, are forced to resolve problems creatively due to limitations. For example, classic Atari and N64 games had very little RAM and processing power to work with, so fitting everything into the game was a challenge. However, one such solution to save space was to reuse music tracks and just play them differently during the game. Although it was made in 2015, the game "Undertale" does this very well, its prime example being the tracks "But Nobody Came" and "Your Best Friend" -- the former being a slowed version of the latter (see also "The Emperor's Theme" vs "Augie's Great Municipal Band"/ "The Parade Theme" from Star Wars). The end result was making game soundtracks feel much tighter and connected.
    An example from film would be the relatively low budgets of the Lord of the Rings movies. Without big block buster budgets to work with, the LOTR movies couldn't rely on flashy CGI, so a lot of the effects were done practically. That's why we hardly ever (if at all) see Gandalf doing crazy powerful magic -- because the movies simply couldn't afford to make them, and the times we do see the VFX at play, it's a breath-taking spectacle, like in the opening shots of the battle between the Last Alliance and Sauron's armies, or literally any time the Rohirrim are on screen.
    Bringing it back to the Mandalorian, I think covering Mando's face is an instance of constrained creativity. Because he can't express emotions as effectively, it both portrays the character as a classic stoic badass, as well as makes it so when strong emotions need to be expressed, it's done creatively. Slowly looking to the side after a rough tussle with an angry woman to see baby Yoda with a cup/bowl conveys "What the hell?" better than any dialogue or facial expression could. And that pause...that hesitation at 11:22 conveys an emotion so strong an poignant that the ability to see his face would actually ruin it.

    The Mandalorian seems like the only good thing that came out since DisneyArts decanonized the expanded universe

    I wonder if the Mandalorian/Baby Yoda team up is a bit of an homage to Lone Wolf and Cub? Also, Dave Filoni from "Rebels"? There's part of the show's success right there.

    the Mandalorian has reinvented Star Wars by returning it to its roots.
    classic Saturday morning matinee, simple stories laced with deeper meaning, so CHILDREN can understand it.
    George Lucas said to Jon Favreau about making Star Wars content - "Remember, Jon, the real audience for all stories and all myths is the kids that are coming of age" - YES adults can, should and always will love it, but it's never been for us. i grew up on matinees & can reassure anyone, this is the truest form of one i've seen in 30+ years.
    Favreau, Filoni et al, bravo.
    i have spoken.

    • @Malt454
      @Malt454 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's not really all that much "reinvention" going on - there's nothing in Star Wars that children can't understand; the only difference is that, in this show, the writing no longer seems to be done by children.

    • @AlexiosLair
      @AlexiosLair 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem is that for many people "This is for children" means it's something wшер a fancy shape, but nothing in inside since ya know, kids are too dumb to understand that.
      Instead, many projects should follow the example of The Last Airbender. Being able to keep the show for kids, but in the same time carry on a wonderful and deep story inside.

    The Mandalorian isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. As mentioned in the video it tells a lot of it’s story through action and interaction with surroundings and other characters. The camera work is almost always intimate so it shrinks the world, but the attention to detail maintains its vastness by reminding you its a part of a sprawling universe. Then you have solid character development, with careful attention to cause and consequences. As mentioned in the video, Mando isn’t a one man army. He’s not unbeatable, he can lose and that makes his wins all the better because you know he’s not OP and they had to be earned by sheer determination and collaboration with others.

    My little brother is the kind of guy who doesn't like Star Wars normally. The only movie I believe he's watched all/most of the way through is _Return of the Jedi,_ and he mostly laughed through it because *haha Ewoks.*
    He watched _The Mandalorian,_ though, and he's really a fan of it. I think that speaks to the real power of the show, is that it can draw in new people to get invested in a Star Wars story unlike one that's ever been seen before.
