Kylian Mbappe is almost certainly now the highest-paid footballer in the world.
In a saga that appeared to show Real Madrid as his favoured destination, Mbappe has recently signed a new deal at PSG, making him perhaps the most expensive player of all time.
But why did he decide to stay? And how did this saga unfold?

Well, Mbappe will certainly give more answers in coming weeks, but few obvious reasons:
- Mbappe wants to win the Champions League with PSG, before to leave PSG
- Mbappe wants to mark PSG history before to join an historic club like Real
- Mbappe would not move 5 months before the World Cup in Qatar
- Mbappe was also flattered by Qatar offer in term of contract, money and project.
- Mbappe feels good in Paris with strong family links and friends like Hakimi and Veratti
- Mbappe said he would like to play in Real one day, but never precised when.
I finished the video and I still don't know the reason why he didn't join Real Madrid.
As much as I love your videos, with all due respect, you haven't actually explained why he didn't join Real Madrid. You haven't gone into any detail about the financial package that is reported to have been offered to him, the powers over sporting decisions nor the political tactics used by involving Macron in all this. There is much more you could have unpicked from this.

I think there are some important things missing. The pressure from Macron (admitted by himself), the pressure by the anne Hidalgo (admitted by herself), the alleged pressure from Sarkozy, the pressure by the Qatar Emir, the power that Mbappe has now in PSG (already sacked Leonardo and hired his friend Luis Campos and the high priority to hire Zidane and sack Pochettino)...
it's not only money, there are a lot of forces involved here and even politics reasons behind (remember that the World Cup will be in Qatar and the Olympics in Paris... interesting stuff)

Personally, I don't have a problem with Kylian turning down Real Madrid. Steven Gerrard and Francesco Totti did it, but, they did it with class. Him, instead, used both clubs to raise his auction. The worst part is, the fact that both clubs knelt down to have him in their squad. I understand that he want to win the CL with PSG, after all, he was born in Paris, but he has no class. As a French man myself, I'm disappointed by that kind of behavior, by him and his surroundings.

EDIT: Apparently, some of you in the replies find it normal that a player who has much to prove plays with 2 clubs to raise his value, so let me remind you few things :
1) Mbappe always dreamt to play for RM, and even had a lot of poster of CR7 in his room when he was a kid.
2) He refused a contract extension offer before Messi came and agreed to play for Los Blancos next season.
3) This saga lasted more than a year.
I don't care about him being the highest paid player in the world ( if he becomes a billionaire, that's good for him), but my point is, no matter how good you are or the number of trophies or honors you won or what you achieved , no player should take himself bigger than a club. You have to show some respect to your club. That's why Totti, Gerrard and even Del Piero are real legends. Unlike them, he is an overpaid baby.

At this point Real Madrid should look at the positives. On both occasions when they missed out on Mbappe they ended up getting the most sought after young stars in Camavinga and Tchouameni. So all the “madrid have an aging midfield” criticisms are gone. They now have Valverde, Camavinga, and Tchouameni. Literally any big team in Europe would LOVE to have atleast one of those young players.

I think the mystery behind this deal (and thanks for clearing up absolutely none of it, btw, Tifo) is the biggest problem for Mbappe.
People are already speculating that he has some sort of DoF role, hiring and firing whatever staff or players he wants, and I can see this all getting dumped on him if next season goes sour.
I hope the cash helps and he has decent people around him because the media piling the expectations of millions on your door is the sort of thing that gives people that young nervous breakdowns or worse.

Real Madrid probably won't try to sign him next time when his contract run down after 3 years. He probably won't get the chance to sign short term mega money contract after this since after this and I think he's stuck at PSG forever after this snub. The only clubs right now capable of paying high wages are Real Madrid & PSG. Man City already has Haaland, Bayern or Juve will not pay salary above €500k a week. I don't think he'll get his demand the next time around.

Gotta be honest I disagree. Money in football is inflating at an insane right; even with the Covid impact prices have already pretty much recovered to pre-Covid financial strain. Considering his wages, the money they turned down from real Madrid, and the fact that he is now too expensive to resell (no other club can afford to buy out his contract or meet his wage demands). Mbappè said in every possible way that his dream was to go to Madrid. When he signed for PSG he did it with the intention of guaranteeing himself to be a starter, because in Madrid; CR7 and Bale were the starters on the wings and Mbappè did not want to go to fight for a position, but he "warned" that PSG was a previous step to the RM. So far everything perfect. Last year Mbappè asked to leave, he spoke with Florentino and the RM put 200+ million for Mbappè to leave, an astronomical figure for a player whose contract expired in 6 months and did not intend to renew, PSG, knowing that the economic rules do not apply for them, that they do not comply with the FFP and that UEFA is in Qatar's payroll, decided not to sell, Mbappè gave his word to Florentino that he would go to RM at the end of his contract, but that he was not going to fight publicly with the Sheikh nor would declare in rebellion. However, he ensure that he would go to Madrid, to fulfill his dream of playing for the biggest club in history and to prove in a big league that he was the new best player on the planet. Everything was going as agreed until the trip to Qatar. There, they offered him more money than anyone else has earned, plus the keys of the club, he will be the star, he will put the coach he wants, the sports director, he will have a say when it comes to player departures and signings... Big mistake. On the one hand, this season Messi, Neymar and several of his teammates will no longer see him as a teammate, surely there will be a division in the locker room, a clash of egos, the next coach will be seen as a puppet of Mbappè and he will continue to play in a league where winning has no merit because the rivals are infinitely inferior. This season 21/22 the calculations are again of more than 200 million losses (even declaring income from sponsorships of a very dubious amount, which is illegal, but we know that it is very difficult to prove it, but we know that Qatar's sponsorships are injections of capital fraudulently destined to inflate the income numbers to justify their signings) with a cost of a sports squad of around 650 million for the 21/22 season, a cost that does not include the "promotion agreements" that some players sign with Qatar and the World Cup, which is nothing more than a way to pay them without being reflected in the club's payroll.
UEFA created a regulation in order to prevent competitions from being adulterated with money not generated by the clubs, it cannot be that some clubs comply with the rules and others dedicate themselves to buying TAS and UEFA so that they look the other way. But surely you are one of those who believes that the World Cup in Qatar was awarded to them in a clean way, an award for their human rights record and treatment of foreign workers, not because they bought the votes with tons of money...

Tifo is amazing but this was one of their worst videos. In almost eight minutes, they only explained the transfer saga which we are tired of listening plus the ucl fixture episode. Then in about fifteen seconds they made an assumption about the Qatar investment fund and that was it. There are multiple topics on why he stayed, not covered here, mostly besides money.
Being a Madridstas am glad he won't be able to destroy our young squad with his presence but at the same time am sad cause i really wanted him to join us.

FFP is not meant to make things "fair" but to ensure clubs don't overspend unsustainably and let their finances go to ruin. PSG...are not in any danger of that anytime soon it seems, no matter how much they spend.

Real Madrid didn't sell Sergio ramos, sergio didn't want to cut his salary because he was injured for months so his contract expired, and Varane wanted to leave to explore new experiences in another competitions.
