I swear this happens every time and he always comes back and wins.
These marathon runs are obviously full of a few mistakes, and are off from the runner's personal bests, but to put this into perspective,
Mitch's times would have been good enough to get 15th in the world.
TheHaxor would have been 17th
And Stewie, who had a few slip ups, would have still been 27th in the world.
So under marathon conditions, probably dealing with things like different equipment and crowd noise, all the runners managed to get finishes that would still get them ahead of many good runners on the leaderboard.
That, and world records are the result of many retries until an attempt, a lucky run, is successful. In this case, the trick to skip levels in the 7th world, where you just jump at a wall, might have shaved a few seconds off of Mitch's time. Truly amazing.
I think that even makes it more impressive in some aspects. Especially the adaptation and improvisation. Incredible.
I saw this on the live stream during AGDQ 2020. Congrats on winning the race Mitch. All players displayed amazing strats.
The last part were everybody were screaming ,stewie stewie(whether you spell it) when he was doing that clip in the wall at the last level was definitely the coolest & funniest part of this entire run😀😀😀

Is the audio delayed for anyone else? If so, can I fix it?
It 's delayed for me, including before the race started so I think Mitch made a boo-boo
Fix: you can DL the video on your computer (search youtube to MP4 on Google)
And use VLC to sync the audio. (/Tools/Track synchronisation)

@Érik I've had to do that a few times. It's a little bit inconvenient because my computer doesn't run very well, but I do it if I have to.
cut the sound for the video you are watching, open another tab of the same video with sound and start it one second before the first one!

Here because gdq isn't uploading vods and comments are disabled. Great race by all runners.
Trans runners and their fans complained that their runs always had comments disabled. GDQ's solution? Disable comments for _every_ video. Now the algorithm is way less likely to recommend the videos to anyone not already aware of GDQ so that particular avenue of advertising their charity event is cut off, plus they expanded the number of people pissed at them from one group to the entire TH-cam audience. Brilliant.
These people are grown ass adults- they can handle mean-spirited, off-topic comments if it means being able to see the audience's response to the run they worked their asses off to achieve.
They posted on Twitter that they are going to upload all VODs and enable the comments but they take a while

My favourite here was Stewie. He tried some funny tricks and that was really fun.
If 100% means all levels you can die on, could you turn a hammer brother in to a coin ship and use a cloud to skip it?

@@YourMomz07 Yeah they clearly weren't paying attention to what he was doing.
I grabbed the hammer suit to ensure I survived 7-8. The way the mechanics of the enemies in the level work you have to do the level as fast as possible to get consistent patterns from them, so once I corner clipped the star block there was going to be a bunch of randomness and it became pretty likely that I'd die playing the level normal. I haven't done hammer strats in over two months and it would also require clipping 7-9. I was basically just trying to stay in the race in the event Mitch died or took damage on Bowser.

The hammer suit is super cool but I can see how it would be pain to try and finish the game with it if you haven't been training with it.

is it jsut me or is the audio not synced up with any of the 3 screens?
The entire audio stream was desync'd, not just the screens, but even the commentators' audio stream was delayed by about 2-2.5 seconds

GDQ can't get the stream sound in sync anymore. Been a problem the last few events. Get your stuff together, come on.
And just a tip to the couch commentators in case they see this (they won't) the big fish on the surface is Boss Bass. The big fish under water is Big Bertha.
I love these races, but someone ALWAYS gets hopelessly behind in every race.
