  • Take a 3D tour of the "Rocket", including the Rocket's instrumentation, airlock and Atomic engines. The Atomic engines are patterned after America's own (actually tested) atomic rocket engines. Project NERVA was a military quality atomic engine producing 125,000 pounds thrust.

You've been seriously rockin' out with the virtual tours lately, Steve! You're touching on a topic (1950s sci-fi) that's dear to mine heart. Love the teched-out explanations and research.

Sorry I missed your comment. Yes I also love the 50's scifi. But there are fewer and fewer of us as time goes on.

I loved theses serials and own them all on DVD. Always wondered what happened to the original full scale and flying models. Thanks for the tour.🚀

Fantastic Steve lol! I used to love this show when I was about 5 or so. I loved the helmet and 'flying jacket' Cody used to wear. It was so funny that he could adjust the rockets on the jacket to 60% on or 30% off.....LOL 50's scifi bro...classic and you do it awesome justice. I didn't even remember all the details form this one.

Excellent tour, really enjoying your channel! Once again though you need to turn up the volume, I have trouble hearing you, even with the hearing aids in and turned up! Lol!

Like it a lot. A few points. The seats would have footrests and would fold down flat allowing them to be used as beds, similar to business or first class airline seats.
They need to drink so theres a water tap with hot and cold water and sink. Its an atomic powered ship, electricity is not going to be a problem thats how they make coffee. Also a small toaster oven. Joan mentions in one episode there was food for at least a month, they are not going to be eating stale sandwichs for a month. I expect they would have WW2 type military rations which they would heat up.
Interplanetary missions could be lengthy , days or weeks to complete. So there's likely to be fold away table and chairs similar to camping equipment. As they are required to engage in physical combat, there's foldaway exercise equipment.
The minimum crew was three which makes sense as that allows a rotational 8 hour watch . In their recreational time the crew would entertain themselves with card and board games, reading , music (tape or LP player) etc.

When I was a kid, this was my dream spaceship! I read somewhere that it still exists and was rescued by someone after a long tour as a prop at a Californian auto dealership. Does anyone know about that? It always amused me to note that in the RMFTM scenario, the first lunar expedition was conducted by a small, independent laboratory and was seen off by a minor government flunky and two bored looking LA cops!

How about a workup of his jetpack? It was used in four serials by three different characters but, true to serial budgets, they used the same film cuts for the jetpack shots in all four 😁

      There's nothing to it! It's hollow. It has 3 controls: On/off. Up/down. Slow/fast. :)

Thank you for these and the others. The 3D graphics are great. The the cage grid is disconcerting for some reason. It might just be me. Appreciate this. Thanks.

Its pretty much a ladder style frame. Sort of standard for the era.
      And thanks for the comments

It was before my time. Like these concept pieces. There are some people in England doing 3D of Fireball XL-5 if you Google you might find interesting.

Thanks again for this installment,SFSteve. Your 3-D animated tours are probably the finest 'fan-made' works on youtube. (At least the very best I`ve yet seen.) Any ideas on possible future video offerings?
    Thanks again!

    • @Scifisteve1954

      Sure:
Rocky Jones Space Ranger's SilverMoon, Mysterians' saucer, Space Patrol's Terra V, maybe the Saucer from The day the Earth Stood Still, The rocket from Mission to Mars, and a bonus of Lost in Space the 65' TV show.
The problem is Mission to Mars and Rocky Jones space ship is they will be very similar. Maybe not enough to make it worth while to do two.
      Do you have any ideas?
      Steve

Lots of lightbulbs floating above my head,SFS,...What about the spinning,capsule-shaped UFO alien craft as seen in the 1970s "UFO" series? Always thought that to be a trick little number(cool sound FX too)...the derelict ship inhabited by the "bubble creatures" that swallowed up the LiS JUPITER 2 in one early episode. (Don`t roll your eyes at me young man!) Star Trek TOS a Tholian 'web'ship from ep. TTW? Down for a Spacing Guild Heighliner from Herbert`s novels and via the Lynch DUNE movie? The George Pal version of H.G.Wells` Martian war machine(manta ray-like) ? Uh...did you already do a QM tv series THE INVADERS saucer? ST TOS Klingon D7 Battle Cruiser??? *personal favorite, btw* =) Carpenter`s version of THE THING saucer? THE MAN FROM PLANET X ship? ..You asked!

O.G. BigHosMan Right now Im trying to keep the video clips to the 1950's. I have made the exception of LIS so it can (will) become a slipper slope. I would like to do something special for George Pal's WOW.
Probably no Star Trek because its been done (I have several tec. posters).
Because of the time I spend doing research its hard to crank out more then two a year. So it will be slow going.
      Thanks for the E-Mails

How about a look at the Galaxy 2 from Capetian Video and his Video Rangers TV show in the 50's ? they used a model scratch built from two 1:48 scale XF-90 jet aircraft models and shot movie film of the rocket blasting off and landing on different model landscapes. My dad was a building engineer at the Wanamaker's dept store in NYC where the Dumont studio was located making the Captain Video shows, he knew I watched this show and he took me to meet Al Hodge and Don Hastings. I saw the cardboard robot Tobor leaning against a wall and the Galaxy 2 rocket ship sitting on a diorama with movie cameras and lights ready for filming, I understand all the movie shot are lost but I'd love to see this model produced for us fans of this classic show.

Crews of these ships must have seriously dreaded 1) being attacked by multiple ships at once, & 2) being stranded in space awaiting rescue! Seriously, how can you sleep in those seats?
    And where's the toilet??

    • @Scifisteve1954
      @Scifisteve1954  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Last question first. The Toilet (John) is mentioned at time slot 11:50 as part of the tour of the airlock area. The little rocket was attacked several times by multiple ships. He always won the battle. Why, better writers. Last there were never any unplanned break breakdowns. Not likely in the real universe, but again ask the writers.

I have looked at you site and I do enjoy your imaginative drawings but really just draw an engine just call it a magic motor and leave it at that. Your no scientist (rocket scientist) much less a physicist or even an electrician for that matter. Leave it at the drawings.
