Some tips for wetsuits: 1. Just before exiting the water, pull the next down and let the wetsuit fill with lots more water, this will make it side off your arms and upper body quickly 2. when in transition, pull the wetsuit to below the knees, then stamp on the legs get it the rest of the way off without your hands. You can then use your free hands to put your helmet on whilst removing your wetsuit at the same time. And an extra point is, if you have chip timing on your ankle, secure it with a safety pin, i lost mine at a race once. It stops it coming off in the swim and while you pull the wetsuit over it
If you wait till you get to transition to remove your hat and goggles you can avoid potentially dropping them and having to backtrack to pick them up. I learned that one the hard way.
Taking 2 minutes off my swim time is independent of my wet suit removal time unless those 2 minutes I saved directly caused me to take more time removing my wet suit.
Hi folks. I cut my legs short by a few cm. The legs are tapered, so cutting then short eliminates the narrowest section and makes the legs much, much quicker to take off. Stamp and high kick each leg and it's off. Practice every time you wear your wetsuit.
For lubing wrists & ankles I found olive oil Spray & Cook quick and easy to use and you don't have to wash your hands after applying it and no harmful effect on wetsuit material. (Safety tip: Avoid inhaling S&C aerosol at all times, let alone before exerting yourself)
Global Triathlon Network the suggestion was made by the regional ORCA representative. The aerosol application method was very easy & the olive oil was apparently more wetsuit-friendly than normal S&C.
Great video, but I have one question. If I wear my fitness watch on the outside/ontop of my wetsuit, how should I get the wetsuit off? I think my wrists on the wetsuit are so tight that I can't have the watch under it. Please help with advice.
most watches have a lock function to stop buttons being pressed during an activity... I've always found it easy enough to get the wetsuit off over the watch though.
When I exit the water, I always pull out my wetsuit at the front of the neck, to let a bunch of water into it, this helps with getting the suit of fast! But what I'm really struggeling with, is my Garmin watch on my left wrist, any tips? - What I do now, is to remove the wetsuit on my right arm and before getting my left hand out, I take my watch off, bite down on the strap holding it, while I take my left arm out of the wetsuit. Then when I have my wetsuit down around my waist, I run and struggle with getting the watch back on my arm
I mostly just use the watch to track my time used, so I guess I can try to put it under the cuff. I'm just afraid that the wetsuit will push the bottoms, but I guess I will give it a try 😊
I have an odd #askgtn I wore a wetsuit (a sleeveless full leg) for my first 70.3 and when I got out, I had cramps on my shins! Not my calves (that came in T1..both calves!) what gives? Any ideas? I’m not much of a kicker, so the buoyancy helped with that. Now I’m nervous about wearing it again for another race.
i like to hold my goggles and hat in one hand then after undoing the zip then as i pull the wetsuit off i let go of them inside the sleeve so i dont have to worry about them again
They really should mention vaseline and/or sleeve/leg cutting... I cut off the the bottom 6 inches of my wetsuit. This + vaseline on arms and legs = super fast wetsuit removal
Lol "run to the transition area"? Do you mean "drunk jelly leg wobble to the transition area" or is that just me? :/ #askGTN how do I make my legs work after the swim?

In Scotland I get so cold if I don't swim with a wetsuit on haha, I know some people that do it but not many !
Hey! Useful content! I see some many of my swimmers struggling! Thanks for that Heather and the GTN squad!

Loop the string of the wetsuit makes it's so much easier to find and take off. Also body glide body glide body glide. You can never have enough

This sounds..... interesting 🤔 can't say we've used cooking oil before!

Was this video recorded in the Colonia San Jordi on Mallorca, near the Best Swim Centre ?
Pulling the wetsuit down to the ankles then stepping on it is a fast and efficient method.
What's wrong with looking like a penguin? Penguins are adorable, and they can tap dance #happyfeet

Any tips for wearing a watch? Wearing underneath the suit may cause pressing its button accidentally.

Do you use the watch during the swim or just use it to track the swim? If you don’t look at it you can put it under the cuff
Try right writs.

And what about watces?
How do you deal with the timing chip?

I was going to say exactly this! This is what I do and it works great!
Nice tip Ian, thanks for sharing!
Yip, I do the same. Works well for me.
I've found that body glide or vaseline is a good lubrication for taking off the wetsuit.
Thank you - vaseline really helped with taking off the wetsuit.

It’s like watching baywatch

#askGTN how do I make my legs work after the swim?
Some (more advanced triathletes) recommend to kick extra hard in those last few meters of the swim to increase blood flow to your legs
I rub myself down with lard before putting the wetsuit on
doesn't that make you feel horrible during the next stage?
I'll let my shark friends know sounds tasty, also bit of garlic would be appreciated, where do you swim john ?
Oh my god so much filler
Hahaa, First comment!
