- In ATA 204, we discuss the 4 main categories of paint polishers and what separates them from each other. We deep dive into the strengths and weaknesses of each and where they may be best suited for use on a car. For the first time ever on camera, Kevin installed 2 LED lights on a foam pad to demonstrate the "movement" of each machine on a glass panel, and I believe it change the way you think about paint polishers in the future. I thought the same thing. When I first found out about Ammo NYC I was at their website and started watching the training videos there. I thought the first ones were freebies and that I would eventually have to pay for access to get more detailed content but that wasn't the case. Watching the Ammo training videos is like getting a Phd in paint correction/detailing for free. I will definitely support Larry by purchasing Ammo products.

Great explanation of the differences. This is why I have the BigFoot 21, the LHR15, and the iBrid Nano. My Jeep, my STI, and my Truck have different size panels, shapes, and lines. It’s nice having the right tool for the job.
Which one have you found best for your STI? or a combination of the tools?
@@adamb2619 I have the Limited trim so it has a moon roof up top which reduces the paint surface that I have to cover. The LHR15 works as I've only had to do a few spots around the car. If I were going to polish the whole thing the 15 would work, but you could cut back some effort/time using the 21 on the doors and the roof. The ibrid nano works great for the front bumper around the fog lights and grill. So depending on how much you're trying to do all of them are great, but the 15 is versatile enough to use alone if you don't have the budget for the other two.
Wow Kevin Brown. I remember talking to him literally 10 years ago and back then, we didn't have Rupes or Meguiars or other fancy machines. All we had was the Porter Cable and rotary. And with the weak porter cable, Kevin Brown devised the KBM which allowed the Porter Cable to operate just as aggressively as a rotary using Surbuf pads. He even sent me the URL to buy them. Back then Surbuf was not available at most online stores, and I had to place my order over the phone. Good times.
Love how your not bashing any type of polisher. I actually started with a rotary , still don't have much experience but I think anyone can use any machine with the right knowledge

Great demonstration of each machine purposes. One thing manufactures need to pay attention to is the long term health concerns that high frequencies machines causes when using on a daily basis. Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) Is real! Hope to see machine manufactures innovative from a user health prospective as well as the results they provide for our industry.

I used some Griots compound yesterday and it didn't come out great but it looks a lot better than it did.. It did bring back the color and gloss.. I was having problems from the start no matter how much compound I used.. I started to do like 16"x12' sections and things got better..
When wet sanding I always go to my old school wool pad and rotary. The learning curve is larger, but in this certain application results are achieved faster and easier
I remember having a conversation with Kevin about the large throw of the Cyclo, where I made the comment that I'd wished Cyclo would design a single head polisher and how well it would work. At the time, Kevin informed me about the Dynabrade attachment, which was the only single head long throw polishing device of the time. What a beast that thing was!! I still have mine!!
Phenomenal Explanations! 👍 Just went to buy LED Lighting for my garage detailing build for the 2017 GTI Clubsport seen at my channel today! Settled for dual 43 Watt LED's @ 1200 mm each outputting 4400 Lumens & IP65 Protection! We will be installing it into a 3,6 * 6 meters Galvanized PVC Garage Tent! Wish us luck getting things up & running as its crazy windy here in Sweden @ the moment! 😄 👍

I’m a weekend warrior and have only used the Dual Action was thinking of going to buy a flex or rupes but could understand why the jump in price.
This has made me understand more about all machines and definitely understand the logic behind them all now.

Great Video and pros at work. Just want to mention that for large stroke machines can be limited to pad size. I learned this the hard way. Put a large pad on a large stroke machine. Good luck holding on to it! Now it search of small / medium stroke machine so I can run larger pads! I did not see that coming when I bought the larger Pads!

Lmao Larry. 1. I love that you answered the phone when I went to order. And 2. You hair my guy 😂😭😭
The DA spin operates on inertia (the counterweights). So when the spinning of the pad stops, they take a while to wind up again. I found them so frustrating to use. I spent half my time lifting the pad off the surface to get it to spin again. I'm pretty sure people don't realize how often their DA spin is stalling because the machine is always vibrating and shaking back and forth even when the spin has stopped. You might think that everything is cool.
The rotary is such a pleasure to use. Smooth and easy to handle. If you use common sense and keep the thing moving it is very effective. I reserve my DA for final polishing now and the time savings is huge.
I may have to pick up a 3401 or a Mille just to see if that is the machine I've been looking for. I still can't understand why they are so expensive though. The design seems very simple.

I started on a Black and Decker rotary in 1975 and I am finishing on a rotary...I also use DA Polisher now days too....

Anoth BIG drawback of the rotary is the SLING. You find yourself sending little white dots of compound/polish all over the place. Makes cleanup a total nightmare. Yes, prepping your pad correctly can help minimize, but it’s impossible to fully avoid. Orbitals do not sling at all...

I like My FLEX3401(had it since 2009) for most work. The Adams mini is terrific for hard to reach spots. I also like My Cyclo. I have liked it since the 80’s. I am going to adapt to “stick to one product” via Your other video. I have far too many compounds, etc.
Man these training videos are great! I'm always interested of the workings on things that I use to use them better, the idea with the leds is a great way to finaly look behind the science! I can't wait how you guys gonna visualize the workings of different pads :)

Kevin Buff Daddy Brown is an Encyclopedia of paint correction knowledge but we love to hear our information from Larry K. of AMMO NYC, Larry is our “Master Detailer”! Just as you look up to people like KB or Jason or whom ever we could follow them and their training but you explain and express things a certain kind of way when it’s just you. When you introduce others it makes it awkward and while still very good knowledge and you trying to collaborate with other experts is very thoughtful of you to offer access that we may not otherwise have, I still much prefer you learn tips to add from them but I learn from you. I try to give it a chance and I always do and I enjoy it I much prefer just Larry! Either way thank you and in no way do I mean any disrespect the the greatness that is buff daddy or any other guest you may have. Thanks for all of your tips and videos and keep on DRIVING CLEAN
Yet another great video! Maybe I'm missing something here, but since we have large throw machines and force driven with a smaller throw. Would it be possible to combine the two? Say to have a force drive machine with a 15mm throw instead of 8?

So I've been detailing around 5 years, and I'd say I'm a master interior detailer, but in the last year I've really been adding exterior cutting/polishing to my arsenal. What are the benefits to switching to a rupe vs a flex? Such as weight, results, cutting/polishing/finishing all in one tool...that's why the flex is great to me especially as a novice. I'm really thinking about a rupe...can you give me quick thoughts on the matter? Love the channel great job
Get one. You won't regret it. It'll cut your paint correction time in half and doesn't get hot like the flex
What u mentioned at 22:30 maybe answered my question.why can't u use a rotary polisher all the time? perfectly center the pad for rotary action for those tight areas, When u want a short throw DA action, place the pad a little off center. When u want a longer throw DA action, place it more off center.why have so many different polishers?

To resume, Large stroke dual action are the best, quicker, and more effective. But if you want be really really precise in what you do you better use a rotatory machine because it does a stationary movement. Random orbital and Gear driven are "has been" in a way.

The big boys today are the Flex and Rupes, I particularly like the Flex for having a more cutting power
I see detailers always center the pad so carefully on a rotary buffer. If u put a pad on a rotary buffer a little off center, will not be about the same action as a random or da polisher?
If you place a pad 8mm off centre, yes you will have an 8mm orbit on the pad. But you only get one orbit per revolution. The Flex for example will oscillate about 10-12 times in one revolution on its gearing. I haven’t counted them, but from memory it feels like 12.

I know you mentioned no 1 type of machine is the best, but would it be safe to say that if cost and minimizing chance of damage to the paint are your priority a random orbital would be the top pick?
