    • @SuperSupermanX1999
      @SuperSupermanX1999 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's a pretty good, eerie, song for the first two minutes but imo is just too long. since there isn't really any variety in it at all, until the jazzy bit, it feels rather tiring to listen to, especially with the very ploddy piano playing and claps. Imo if they brought the jazzy bit forward a minute or so, and then ended after the discordant piano bashes that close the jazz, then it would be so much better. as is it sorta brings the entire album to a grinding halt pace-wise.

    i’m the biggest fan of hail to the thief. i was born around a month after it was released and my mom replayed it throughout my birth, and i lived my whole life with these guys’ music. i went to see them live by my own in july of 2017 and it was the best day of life. they’ve all been such a big part of my life since the second i was born and seeing them actually right in front of me make me break down on my ride home later. the crowd, all the fans of this band, all of them are absolutely amazing and i felt like i was somewhere else for a few hours, even after the concert.
    seeing you listening to the masterpiece i was literally born to makes me want to erase my memory and listen to all their music for the first time again. you lucky, lucky man.

    Big thumbs up for this one! I always thought this was one of their best albums. You should do Amnesiac next. Those albums came out just 2 years apart and have a lot of similarities.
    Can't wait for you to hear the second half of this album. It has one of Radiohead's best songs on it. (There, there)
    A lot of people compare Radiohead and Muse, but I find Radiohead to be a lot more mature and artistic. Their songs are more like compositions. I actually think Muse sound a bit like a younger more aggressive version of U2 in a lot of their songs. I used to like Muse a lot, don't get me wrong, I just find myself appreciating Radiohead more and Muse less the more I listen to them. There's something about Muse that just seems a bit shallow. Like a lot of flair and loud, in your face, production but not a lot that's really deep. I'm not sure what it is. Idk. I might be wrong.

    Most of the ambient/weird stuff is done by Ed on guitar and Jonny on a an ancient electronic instrument, Ondes Martenot (do some research, the instrument is very insteresting). All of the sparkly, warped, and droning sounds in Sail To The Moon were recorded by Ed O'Brien on his guitar. He uses a Strat with a sustainer pickup and various different effects, mostly Digitech Whammy, and obviously reverbs, delays, filters etc.
    Those sustaining sounds thorought Where I End And You Begin were Ed's sustaining guitar layered with Jonny's Ondes Martenot.
    What's weird and really disappointing is that people often make fun of Ed and say that he's a useless band member, when in fact, he's responsible for nearly all of the atmosphere. People just have no idea that many of these sounds are coming from guitar and that it's very rare when Ed doesn't play anything in a song.

It's been underrated the last few years because is the longest Radiohead album but I had great memories in the released age. Every song's got something unique even I will. I just only hate The Gloaming and Scatterbrain is the weaker one. My favourites are Where I end and you Begin, 2+2=5, There there, and A Punchup At a Weeding. Damn I love Backdrifts, Myxomatosis, Sail to the Moon. Ok I have to say Hail to the Thief is one of my favourite Radiohead albums. It's hard to pick an album because their albums are in another level of quality, even The King of Limbs, which the only fail with it is the short duration but adding The Daily Mail and Staircase the whole experience is complete. I'm looking forward for the second part soon.

    Something that's interesting about the way this album was produced: the three previous albums were made over very long periods of time, in different studios and with the band developing several possible versions of the songs. When they did HTTT they decided to do the opposite: they recorded each song in a single day, so that the album would be done in two weeks. The band has since regretted this approach, though. They have mentioned that the album should have been shorter. Thom Yorke even posted an alternate tracklist on their blog, with four songs omitted.
    By the way, "Where I End And You Begin" is one of my very favorite Radiohead songs. Top 5, at least.

      You know: in my opinion this album is a sort of "rough diamond". The album is beautifully bombastic and well composed, but it could've been better. It could be more polished if for example: the tracklist was not that long, some songs had more texture (like The Glooming) and the overall sound was mixed a little bit better. But still an awesome album!
      My favourites are There There, Where I End ... and A Wolf At The Door

    "I would've wanted to be there when a hardcore Radiohead fan bought this CD for the first time..."
    Oh wow, you have no idea how excited this album made me. I was 15 years old, and after losing and finding my teenage self over Kid A and Amnesiac I couldn't wait for this album. This was the era of Border's Bookstores with their cozy CD collections on the 2nd floor. I was an aspiring urban planner, so I instantly fell in love with the cover art because it felt like a map to a city for me. I ripped the plastic off the case and threw it into my Sony Discman with G-Shock Protection, got on my bicycle to ride home, and pressed play. Those first few tracks while bicycling gave me SO MUCH ENERGY that I flew past home to ride to my local park, where I promptly laid down in the grass with the sun on my face to absorb the rest of the album. After I was done, I biked home to Backdrifts which is still one of my favorite cycling/driving songs to this day.
