Radiohead definitely have influences, though what they do is very much their own thing !
A few Bands & Albums that may give you an idea from where Radiohead have drawn influences from --
      Joy Division - Closer
      My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
      Slowdive - Souvlaki
Polygon Window (Aphex Twin) - Surfing On Sine Wave
      Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
      The Cure - Disintegration
The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy
The Sisters Of Mercy - First And Last And Always
      Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman
To name just a few [for now].
Oh... and if you're gonna check out My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, then you should also check out --
      Ride - Nowhere
      .

One of the most important albums ever made. It's worth baring in mind that this was their next album after Ok Computer, which was the album that pushed them to being a world famous and respected rock band. Then suddenly Kid A comes out and opens the way it does, with all its dark electronic weirdness. Just a crazy and brave left turn to take right after achieving massive success in one genre, just to completely go against that. A lot of fans at the time were not happy about it at all, but years later it's considered one of their best albums. The impact this album had on the industry and the way it influenced other bands is massive.
I feel like that sums up what makes Radiohead so good in a way. Just an outright refusal to do what you expect.

    You questioned what it might be like to see Radiohead live, well this is a quote from an interview with the band;
Colin Greenwood: There’s one show from that tour that comes to mind. We were in the middle of an encore of “No Surprises” and Thom went into the audience. Thom drifts into the middle of this crowd of 10,000 or so people, and he just starts burrowing into the ground. Like, really tunneling. And as the song goes on he’s getting deeper, and people are following him down there. Eventually, the whole audience had followed him down into that bottomless hole, and we were all alone onstage. Three days later, Thom emerged alone from the tunnel cradling a dove, nobody else with him. Actually, no one from that audience was ever seen again. That was an amazing show.

People didn't expect Kid A after OK Computer, but the clues were there as early as The Bends: that Radiohead was going to transform into something quite different from where they started out. A lot of Radiohead fans freaked out and didn't know what to think when this came out of nowhere in 2000. Most I think have since come around, and embraced the new direction, and now appreciate how much Radiohead evolves with each album they put out. But what it really comes down to is Thom didn't want to be a rock star, and Johnny was never going to _just_ be a guitarist. They're both crazy talented musicians in general (not to discount the very significant contributions from the other three members of the band), and their goal is just to make great music, regardless of the neat little boxes of music genres that labels try to force bands into. After OK Computer, they had proven themselves enough that they could really just do whatever they wanted, and they've been doing exactly that ever since. They were already massively influential, but with Kid A they pretty much changed the whole world of music, and they've managed to keep pushing the boundaries and breaking new ground album after album.

So, the last two songs have a unique thing to them. Motion Picture Soundtrack is basically a suicide note, and the last lines are "I will see you in the next life." On the original release, there was a long silence after it ends, and "Untitled" was a hidden track on the CD (it didn't have a track, it was part of MPS). It's basically the sound of the narrator from MPS being reborn. If you played the album on a loop, you would then be reincarnated right into Everything in It's Right Place. Streaming services ruined that.

Thoms vocals are horrifying, like he's screaming for help but lost all hope at the same time. This song will forever capture the true horror enormity of an apocalypse. "women and children first." Many of the lyrics only have meaning in the abstract. It was written using something called the cut up technique where Thom would write lyrics cut them into strips and put them back together in novel ways. This lends to the fractured cold emotional atmosphere of the album. Also on National anthem and other songs they run Thoms voice through a vintage instrument Johnny uses called the ondes Martenot which is played throughout the album. The idea is after OK Computer Thom was very sick of his own voice and wanted to alter it. Honestly I could go on all day about this album but I'll leave it there

I know you wish you could use more of it but you feel encumbered with the feelings the songs give you ha ha. Is there any way to watch reactions to the entire songs?!?! I’d subscribe to that in a heartbeat. Thank you for being so cool and open and real! Cheers (ps- The National Anthem on SNL is rad and Idioteque live from Glastonbury is as well!)

Yeah Treefingers is amazing, it's cool to see that acknowledged. And it's made from guitars with effects which is even more impressive. Radiohead went yeah here you go, have an ambient track too and it's one of the best ambient tracks ever. Totally immerses you in the world of this album. That track got me into ambient music and still one of my favorites

Story time: There was so much anticipation for this album. The Bends was awesome, and OK Computer was soooo good... my friends and I were huge fans and worried that they would not be able to make lightning strike in the same place again. The day that Kid A came out, I had to drive 500 km with two friends of mine. We got into the car and my friend pulled out the Kid A CD that he had bought earlier in the day, and as we got onto the highway we hit play and the three of us listened to it for the first time. Words cannot describe the feeling I got when those first five notes dropped -- it was perfection. They hit it out of the park.

They used a Korg Kaoss Pad on the opening vocals. It had a loop feature that would let you capture a clip of sound and then run your finger across a pad to make it go faster, slower, stutter, and in reverse.

Love your reactions to Radiohead, I appreciate how genuine you are and how you don't even try to hold back what you're feeling. (Or you don't seem to at least)
I've been feeling those feelings about them for 20+ years now.
One note about something you said during Kid A, I think the "rats and children following" is a reference to the Pied Piper fairy tail. So its not something he just made up for the song.
If you enjoy Radiohead's albums you should react to The Smile as well. Radiohead is on a hiatus and The Smile is something some of the members are doing in the meantime. It definitely still feels like Radiohead even if it's not Radiohead in name.

I was in a crowd when they played How To Disappear Completely and it was super emotional because they dedicated the song to all the disappeared people during the 70's in Argentina
(we were under a dictatorship lead by General Videla) . Not to mention it was the first time they came to Argentina in 2009 the show was mind blowing, best concert I've ever been in my life.

Here are some recommendations to help with the intensity of Radiohead, which has a lot of emotional extremes to their music.
I guess I could just post you one of my many playlists, and you could farm that for ideas, but I like to keep some stuff to myself. Since some songs are personal to me. I will recommend one artist that I rarely tell anyone else of, but I'll be doing that reluctantly, since I'm a massive fan of Caroline Polachek.
    Portishead - Trip-Hop
Men I Trust - One of my current favorite groups
    Hazel English
Caroline Polachek - Words don't do her justice. Phenomenal
    Chairlift
    Smashing Pumpkins
    Julia Jacklin
Jonathan Bree - I have the same singing voice as him. Which I think is neat.
    Drab Majesty
    Röyksopp
    Kowloon
Boy Harsher - You'll have to listen to them to understand their style
    Band of Horses
    Molchat Doma
    French 79
Dry Cleaning - an English group with a unique singing style
    Still Corners
BeachHouse - Very emotional, but very good
    Cannons
Snail Mail - Fantastic! Nothing else to say
    José González
    Fleet Foxes
    Angel Olsen
    Car Seat Headrest
    Thundercat
    Phoebe Bridgers
This Will Destroy You - Post Rock, you would call them Ambient. Their name is accurate.
    Phantogram
Tennis - Wife sings, Husband plays
    Chromatics
    Alvvays
    Japanese Breakfast
Meg Myers - Really loved her older music
    Dayglow
    Lord Huron
    Future Islands
    Crumb
Amyl and The Sniffers - Australian punk rock
    Big Thief

BTW you should seek out Radiohead’s live performance of Idioteque on Saturday Night Live in the early 2000s. You used to be able to find it on TH-cam but I’m not sure anymore. But it can be found via Google. They came out with a fire and a fury and burned that studio down with that performance. I still get chills thinking about it. Radiohead live is in a league of their own and that performance is iconic.

i think you should listen to amsp last.
there’s a possibility that it could be their last album and it’s radiohead at its most mature (also imo their saddest album lol 😭)

Another fabulous reaction! I love your very open and honest reactions to songs. An idea for another album reaction for you: A different band to Radiohead, predating them by over 15 years, but very influential...Talking Heads: 'Remain In Light' Ahead of its time, complex rhythms and beats, but I am sure you will like it and get a lot out of it. One of my favourite complete albums (alongside the 4 Pink Floyd classics DSOTM, WYWH, Animals and The Wall). Also, how about a series of reactions to the Pink Floyd movie version of The Wall, from start to finish? I know a lot of fans would love to see you react to this!! Cheers from South Australia
